I'm sure some people will flip, but I wonder if the evidence for pursuing the new targets will be as strong as what they already have (wiretaps, undercovers, years long investigation) on the people they've already arrested.
as far as people turning, idk, that AAU coach who was involved with the Rush bros. and Corey Maggette got jail time and didn't flip. some of these AAU coaches/runners/"agents" are/have also been busted for things like robbery/crack, so it's possible that a level of not snitching is present. I'd expect some of the coaches who are probably really whitebread and had no idea what they were getting into might, but they might not have all the information to make big busts across the sport.
also pretty stoked to see the Pump Brothers/KU thing come back up, I definitely forgot about all of that.
Also there is the real possibility of the indicted rolling over a lot more info. All those guys are going to sing without hesitation.
unless Adidas/Nike/etc. pay them to shut up. like Book is facing a charge with a max of 60 yrs. all it takes is a good lawyer and some NDA styled money to keep him from testifying/turning.
Could Rick be one of the guys that the feds want more information on from the guys they've already arrested? It's interesting that he wouldn't be named in the report. Or maybe, Rick is already an informant and that's why he wasn't arrested.

Wouldn't Pitino be one of the guys they'd really want to get? I'd doubt he'd be an informant on some nobodies no one has ever heard of.

Just a thought. He'd definitely be one of the more high-profile people they could go after, but if he is a mover and shaker in that world, maybe he knows how high this goes as well as anybody, too. It's just interesting that he hasn't been arrested and wasn't named in the initial report.

Maybe he's the big fish and they're waiting on the other guys to confirm it.
Isn't he Coach-2? Larranaga is likely Coach-4, also hasn't been fired/arrested but he also didn't get the recruit so idk what kind of trouble, but at the least soliciting/facilitating bribes.

The link I posted is CBS confirming he is Coach-2, which was pretty clear from the get-go, but is now official.
Edit: "University of Louisville head basketball coach Rick Pitino hasn't been charged with any crimes, but CBS News has learned he is the man referred to in court documents as 'Coach-2,' someone who may have had a role in sending illegal payments to the family of a highly-prized recruit, reports CBS News' Dana Jacobson."
...
"Investigators allege Pitino, identified in court filings as 'Coach-2,' spoke with an Adidas executive on the phone three times in what may have been an attempt to get Bowen's family additional money."

NBA passed the anti-Tanking rules today which will kick in for the 2019 Draft. That's a great step. Fuck some tanking ass teams.
Oh, and fuck everybody. Rondo, Holiday, Cunningham, Cousins, Davis. We might not have the insane depth of a team like the Cavs, but we're going to fuck some shit up in the west.

If by "fuck some shit up" you mean lose in the first round of the playoffs, then sure.

eh, idk about 'anti-tanking'. as much as it is 'tanking for the #1 pick' getting yourself into the bottom five is still going to be a target. there have been a lot of great #2-5 players recently, so people are still going to tank.
"Also Thursday, the Board of Governors voted to allow Commissioner Adam Silver to fine teams who violate the league's new guidelines about resting players. Teams can't sit healthy players for high-profile, nationally televised games, and fines for violating that can be for at least $100,000.
The rules also say that unless there are unusual circumstances, teams should not rest multiple healthy players for the same game or rest healthy players when playing on the road."
This rule is also pretty dumb, and will probably backfire when a star blows his knee in a meaningless game on TV. Doing it for "high profile, nationally televised games" is stupid and the TV schedule is never perfect and mid way through the season there will be clunkers.

also easy to hate on tanking when Stern gifted you a #1

Wtf? Gifted? The f'n Cavs tanked that year intentionally and ended up at #3 instead of #4 where #4 ended up getting the 4 digits. I know you put in that smilie at the end, but we've heard that shit forever. Also, the NFL "gifted" the Saints a Super Bowl. No. we earned that shit. Haters are like Trump voters. You can tell them that Vegas wouldn't issue odds if there was a "fix" because they already read it on the internet bitch!

lol, David Stern, Owner of the Hornets is not my favorite person ever tbh. And I get it, I have to hear about how "if Jordan would have played the Rockets wouldn't have won a championship" way too much.
ESPN BPI has NOLA at 28.4% making playoffs, firmly behind the Jazz for 9th (idk I think theyll be better than the Jazz) and firmly ahead of memphis for 11th. only 3 games behind portland for 9th, who I could also see regressing. i also think Denver is a little overrated with Millsap, he's great, but idk how he is going to work in a new environment with a bunch of young guys. the hawks were more built around him than Horford, and I feel like the Nuggs are built more around Jokic.
Good deal. I won't renege if I lose. Looks like as of 9/19, odds are the Pelicans finish 10th at 39-43 with a 28.4% chance of making the playoffs. (help!)
The west will be crazy this year. NO has the best PF and C in the league but I'm not sold on them working well together. GSW, OKC, Houston, SA are all locks. That leaves Minnesota, Utah, Denver, LAC, Memphis, NO, Portland going for four spots. I could even see the Mavs somehow sneaking in based on Rick Carlisle being a god. NO definitely has a decent chance of being in the playoffs though, wouldn't say it's easy money.
I think the Clippers are going to be worse than people expect. Doc isn't that great tbh, Blake and Danilo are basically made of glass, DJ can't make a basket out side of the restricted area, and as much as I love Bev, he definitely had his moments where he was playing without Harden and it was clear Harden needed to be back in the game.
I have unreasonably high expectations for my Nuggets.
Also I fucking hate Blake Griffin but he's pretty underrated these days.
I think he's amazing, and when healthy he's great. But he was just hurt and the Clips are saying he's "100%" but I don't really buy that tbh. He's finished with more than 70 games played 3 of his 7 seasons (3/8 if you count the first one). He hasn't played 80 games in 3 seasons and he's only getting older. I'm just not sold on him lasting enough to be a big difference maker for the season.
