I used to be such a big basketball fan, and I pretty much completely stopped watching (and playing) around Lebron/Melo/Wade/Bosh's premiere season. And for some reason, over the past couple weeks I've started getting back into it. It started the other day when I was browsing /r/nba and seeing people talk about how Curry's the best player in the league. Now like I said, I haven't been following the league much, but over the past several years this is the first I've heard about people starting to consider someone other than LBJ to be the best player.
So since my team is the Lakers and obviously they're not worth watching at the moment, I've been watching the Warriors. And this is probably way old news to everyone else, but shit - this guy is great. I've always been a huge fan of the three-pointer, so watching Steph just flip them up there is a ton of fun for me.
And it's weird; watching basketball now is like seeing an old friend for the first time in years. It's the same in a lot of ways, but a lot of things are different too. I don't recognize the names of about 90% of the players. I look at the current league leaders in points, and right now it's some guy named Russell Westbrook. Never heard of him. And who the fuck are the Pelicans? Who decided on that as a mascot? And I knew the Nets had moved to Brooklyn, but when I was watching they were still the NJ Nets, so it sounds weird to hear. Luke Walton's a coach now? I've only known him as a Lakers backup. And the Clippers are good now? And the fucking HAWKS? I don't know up from down from left from right anymore. It's all so strange, yet so wonderful.

While Iowa, MSU, Purdue and Maryland have all enjoyed the high rankings all year they can now all collectively look up the big 10 standings at outright conference champion Indiana. Let's get this meaningless cash grab that is the conference tourney out of the way and bring on the real March madness. Blocked off work March 17-20 for wall to wall madness
I just want to make sure I can find this when someone asks me why I follow mid-major basketball. The conference tournament means everything.
Debating going to the MAAC Championship tonight even though Siena's not in it. Monmouth vs. Iona is going to be one hell of a game.
How much and why not?
Cheap seats are $16.50. I could just watch it on ESPN at home with better beer that costs less for a six pack than what the arena is selling. But that means I don't get to laugh in A.J. English's arrogant face when Iona loses.
And after last night, I don't think my boyfriend wants to sit through a live basketball game with me for a while.
When do you guys think Grayson Allen was turned in to a real boy?
One look at that face and there's no way I can believe he would ever intentionally trip anyone, no matter how many people think so. That boy's aw-shucks factor is off the charts.

Nowitzki with 40 today. Seems like he has a few milestones left in him. Should hit 30,000 points next year. 2 more years and he'll pass wilt and be a top 5 all-time NBA scorer. And even assuming a significant decline or a total role change at age 40, if he plays 3 more he'll pass jordan.

Westbrook's numbers this year are unbelievable. If it weren't for the Warriors, I'd think everyone would be talking about the possibility of him averaging a triple double next year.
This Toronto v Indiana series could wind up being the best series of the first round. Two scrappy teams with all star caliber duos in Ellis/George and Lowry/Derozan going at it. I'll be rooting for a Pacers upset in seven games, possibly because I have a huge man crush on Paul George.

You're off to a good start. I've said all along that the Raptors win with smoke and mirrors rather than being a truly good team. Just like the Hawks last year, the Raptors have a good record but won't get it down in the playoffs. No idea which team in the East will beat them, but it looks like it could very well be the Pacers.
As a Cavs fan, the Pacers and Heat scare me a lot more than the Raptors. Of course we think the Cavs should beat anyone other than the Warriors or Spurs in 5 games, maybe 6, but it would be nice not to play Paul George - the dude is sick. The Cavs v Pistons series will probably be less entertaining, but I'm excited to get the playoffs started, and calling a sweep.

Woohoo! First round: sweep. East semis: sweep. And now another 6 or 8 days of rest for the Cavs, depending on how many games the Raptors-Heat series goes. This is going to be interesting if they actually stay healthy. [fingers crossed emoji]

The best thing about NBA playoff games on TNT: Jeff Van Gundy is on ESPN. I'd rather stare at Stan Van Gundy's ugly mug, whining, mouth agape, for 12 straight hours than listen to Jeff Van Gundy for five minutes.
Sorry, just had to get that rant out after being subjected to that moron during tonight's Spurs v. Thunder game.
Didn't see the Thunder coming out of this series...and it didn't even take 7 games. Interested to see what they can do with GS.
I see, I'm just more into the playoffs this year than usual, I guess. And yeah, I agree with all that. The Spurs looked like a tough out given how good they've been at home. But OKC is really clicking now, so they at least have a chance against GS.
That game was awesome last night. It's still a long ways away but I'd LOVE to see a Raptors stunner. If only because it would make for a hilarious update to the Believeland 30 For 30.
I still have never understood the continued distaste people have for LeBron.
It can't be just because he said "I'm going to take my talents to South Beach." People can't honestly still hold that over his head. That was six years ago. He said it during a televised broadcast in which he raised $6 million for the Boys and Girls Club and other charities. Well, why did he have to go on tv to announce it? Isn't that egotistical? ESPN and other outlets had been hyping his decision for months! It was already a spectacle. And so he took the opportunity to make money for charity. And you hold that against him?!?
He is providing scholarships to 1,100 students to the University of Akron through his organization The Lebron Family Foundation. 1,100 students!
He has never been involved in any major scandals. He didn't punch teammates, have a gambling problem, or act like a total asshole like Michael Jordan. He didn't (allegedly) rape a woman like Kobe. He has never had drug or drinking problems. He married his high school sweetheart and mother of his children.
In his 13 years in the NBA, he brought his team to the playoffs in the past 11 straight. That includes bringing his team to the NBA Finals for the past five straight years.
He is a total player, excelling in points, assists, rebounds, and on defense.
Yet the guy continues to be hated on by sports fans. Granted, in a poll from 2015 he was rated as the most liked athlete in America, but he was also rated as the most disliked in that same poll.
I'd be shocked if the Raptors actually won the series, just don't see them winning a game in Cleveland...it would be awesome though.
Feel like GS needs to win two in a row to make the championship. If OKC has a chance to close it out in game 6 on the home floor, they will.
If Lowry hits his shots like he did last night and Derozan remains dependable they can hang in there offensively. It certainly helps that Lebron's struggling on perimeter shooting lately. If the Raptors get some stout defense down low to limit Bron's drives then maybe, just maybe they can pull it off. I don't actually think they'll do it but how awesome would that be?
I don't have a clue what's going to happen in the Thunder/GS series but it's going to be awesome.

People hate consistent winners. If the Warriors keep up this winning tradition, in a year or two people will be sick of Steph Curry. Hell, I'm sick of Steph Curry (but respect his skills)
