I thought the same thing about hot chip but a baby monkey isn't a chimp...it's an infant (I looked it up). Not coming up with anything with the word infant unfortunately. I also considered the see/hear/speak no evil but couldn't decide which of those might be warmest.
I think "chips off the old block" covered the offspring part of that though.

Argh, we've had this for half an hour and I think I already managed to think way too hard about it. But anyway, here is the specific type of crazy I'm thinking about now:
I like the idea of it relating to the Monkees, so I was curious about who would be the warmest. The only thing that came to mind is where they're from geographically, and the warmest would either be Michael Nesmith from Texas or Micky Dolenz from LA (does anyone know which place would be warmer?). According to wikipedia, Nesmith's got 4 kids and three of their names start with J - so maybe something about jays? Probably a total stretch but I figured I'd throw it out there in case any part of that makes anyone think of something else.

I'd say it's my favorite guess at this point but sadly my thought train has run out of steam. Disappointed that after 3 days of waiting I'm stumped after 10 minutes. =)

Well, looking at offsprings there's Dweezil Zappa Plays Zappa. If we can figure out how monkey relates to Frank or Dweezil and we're good. I thought I'd throw another curveball on top of other curveballs.
I'm wondering if it has anything to do with the first monkeys in space. The first monkey launched in a rocket, thus warmest, and after the failed attempt there were several other monkeys launched in other attempts. Those monkeys were named Albert, Albert II, Albert III, Albert IV, etc. Any big artists or bands with Alberts???
The Hot Monkey is the name under which Memphis musician, Scott Taylor (The Grifters, Porch Ghouls, StickyIckyIcky, Chopper Girl & Memphis Babylon, etc.) records and performs his solo material. Taylor also runs the Memphis hip hop label, Hoodoo Labs
of course i can't think of anything to make the offspring part work but whatever

i'm gonna laugh my ass off (and cry) if you're actually right about that.
Hairy Apes BMX is a latin-funk-punk group from Austin.
The first part about the monkey that's the warmest fits. The BMX part could relate to the Offspring, who appear to have put out a dvd of their music laid over bmx tricks. it would also fit with the new latin themed tent.

I actually liked the pixies idea a lot, we should talk about that. Just to clarify what the original poster of that idea said, there's a pixies song called "Monkey Gone to Heaven," in which there is a lyric:
"If man is five, if man is five, if man is five, Then the devil is six, then the devil is six, then the devil is six, and if the devil is six then GAAWWWD is seven!" ...etc. (love that song)
The devil would indeed be the hottest monkey because he's... like... in hell. Which is hot. (This is assuming that the man, the devil, and god are all monkeys. lols.)
So what bands might pertain to that idea? The devil and his offspring, which I guess would be demons... I'm gonna do some googling/research/etc. and get back to you... y'all are way better at this than I am.

Hmmm, I like the thinking for both the space monkeys idea and Hot Monkey. Not sure where to go with the many Alberts.
If it was referring to Hot Monkey, the offspring part could just mean one of his bands rather than solo stuff....
Edit: Oh, and Kristina, thanks for the elaboration on the Pixies theory, I was quite confused by the earlier post but it does sound possible now that I actually understand it!
I'm hung on the idea that they're referring to the ONE monkey that WAS warmest. This suggest that they're referring to one monkey of a group of monkeys (either literal or figurative) that was (but no longer is) the warmest. Either this artist is named after this historical primate or this artist is no longer warm and/or no longer a monkey. Does that make sense?
For example, if it's Hot Chi(m)p (my favorite guess so far), why isn't it phrased "this one monkey IS the warmest"?
I grew up worshipping Rock and Roll like a religion. I know its shortcomings and strengths but have loved it unconditionally all the same since I was eight-years old. I ran away and joined the circus and honestly, I'm still as obsessed as I was as a boy. I'm not a kid anymore but I still remember how it felt and it doesn't really feel all that different to me now.

I like the way carligula thinks, and hope that carligula has not seen the malcom macdowell movie with which he shares his name.
But seriously, okay, the semantics of this question might be important. Can we think of some famous monkeys? I'm assuming this can be extended to apes and monkey-like monsters (King Kong, Mighty Joe Young). There were so many goddamn monkey movies when I was little. Also maybe something with Planet of the Apes? I'm goin' monkey pop-culture here.

Well, Zappa had a song called "King Kong" - ZPZ occurred to me too like it did to bigman so after he mentioned it I started trying to find Zappa-monkey connections.

Sorry for all the posts, but also thought of something. "Warm" can mean something besides hot, and I think it might be significant that he uses "warmest" instead of "hottest." Perhaps, kindest monkey? You know what I mean?
I like the logic of Hairy Apes BMX but I don't think that's it. I talked to Mike Dillon Tuesday night at the Dead Kenny G's show and I don't think Bonnaroo has booked him with any band. He said something like "if we're invited, we'd be there in a heartbeat."

I keep looking at "warmest" and, because I have clues on the brain, thinking of when someone is trying to find something or figure something out and you tell them they're warmer or cooler depending on how close they are. So the warmest monkey would be the closest to...something.
I still think the fact that it says "the one monkey" and not just "the monkey" suggests that it's one monkey out of a group of monkeys. If that's true then we would need to find a group of monkeys, but that keeps bringing me back to the Monkees. Or the Gorillaz, Arctic Monkeys, etc. Arctic Monkeys may be something to think about, just because of how arctic could relate to warmest - who would be the warmest out of a bunch of really cold monkeys??
For some reason the wording has me thinking of the book Cecily G and the Nine Monkeys. It was the first book with Curious George in it. I don't really recall the story, or how much info or names were given for the monkeys, but maybe someone else does...

OH....very interesting. I had been thinking Curious George wouldn't fit with the group of monkeys idea I'm stuck on, but if there were nine monkeys and then George was the one who really took off and got his own series of books, I could see him being the one monkey who was the warmest.
