Here's a bunch of little tidbits about the late night at Nateva. They say they won't be having big name late nights.......but that the acts will be "big talent" which I think is fine. This sounds like some pretty cool stuff. I love how they are responding and talking to the fans and answering questions.
We are still trying to work through details of our Late Night Entertainment. We may be in Maine, but we have neighbors and we need to find the right balance between entertaining and giving the good people of Oxford a few hours to sleep each night. We expect to go as late as 3am on Friday and Saturday nights, but our motto will not be 'Late and Loud'. It can't be. We are planning on two late night stages, both indoors, running until about 3am. Neighbor complaints could affect the volume and the timing. We will not be scheduling big name bands/DJ's on these stages, just big league talent.
Some people posted some questions/concerns after this and Nateva responded with:
Late Night - There will be bands, dj's, movies on a giant screen, bonfires and a bunch of other things, but there won't be a Bass Nectar or a Girl Talk blowing the roof off things. It took Oxford 22 years to let this sort of event back into the town limits following the Monsters of Rock and The Grateful Dead in the summer of 1988. We want everybody to have fun and we want everybody to be entertained - and we also want to be invited back to Oxforf next year and the years after, too.
As you decide whether to buy tickets or not, this is information that is important you. Just want to make sure that we are all on the same page.
A few more comments from people are posted after that.....some supportive, some not supportive. Then after concern of the size of the indoor late night areas a man named Frank (who I assume is affiliated with Nateva) posted this:
We have a couple of good size buildings that between them can hold a couple of thousand people. We will also have outside activities like drum circles, bonfires and late night movies. We are looking into a Silent Disco and expect to engage and entertain those who want to stay up all night. Bands like Lettuce, Spiritual Rez and Roots of Creation are certainly acts we would be interested in for the late night stages - but you won't find STS9 or Umphrey's playing indoors or at 2:00am anywhere onsite. As duly noted by somebody on this page, we can't afford to buy out every neighbor and send them to Boston for the weekend. Instead, we need to include them and be attentive to their welfare. Without Oxford Town, Neighbor and Law Enforcement support - we simply won't have a festival.
If anybody previously bought a ticket and this information would cause them to want a refund - just message me on this site and we will arrange to return your money.
We will always try to be upfront as to our situation and what you can expect from us and from the event. Hope to see you in Maine this summer.
Really cool that they offer a refund of the money for anyone who may have been upset with the news. I didn't think that would happen but I guess they are confident with their ticket sales (which are apparently going faster then they anticipated.
I'm buying my ticket tomorrow. For most people the current lineup may not be worth it for $200 + fees but for me it's totally fine. $200 is about how much it would cost to get tickets to separate Furthur, moe. and Flips shows so the fact that they have Derek Trucks, Zappa Plays Zappa, and Keller Williams really excites me. They say that when the ticket price increases (probably sometime next week) they will announce more bands. Supposedly there's going to be 30-40 bands total but we'll have to wait and see.

It took Oxford 22 years to let this sort of event back into the town limits following the Monsters of Rock and The Grateful Dead in the summer of 1988.
My curiosity made me go search for that, and Monsters of Rock was on 6/25 and the Dead played July 2nd and 3rd.
I found this thread on dead.net about the scene at the Oxford Plains Speedway
And this about Monsters of Rock from the local radio station
17) "What is your most embarassing rock moment?"
"Monsters of Rock at Oxford Plains 1988
I had the dubious distinction of going onstage to announce to an angry crowd of thosands, in the pouring rain, that they would have to wait another hour for The Scorpions to start. Naturally, I was booed and given the finger(or fingers). So I told the crowd to "F*** OFF( Amplified for all of Oxford County to hear.) You were there too, huh. Yep, that was me. "
And here's the Monster's of Rock Lineup from that show
* Van Halen (headline act, 100 minutes) * Scorpions (75 minutes) * Dokken (60 minutes) * Metallica (60 minutes) * Kingdom Come (45 minutes)
Sounds like an interesting couple of weeks for the good people of Oxford, in my mind I just see thousands of Angry Wet 80's Metalheads and then thousands of Trippy 80's Deadheads suddenly all descending on this sleepy little town in ME at the same time and then just not leaving for weeks
Glad they are inviting us back, I hope we all make them glad they did

Awesome news about STS9. I don't think they'll get a late night because some people from Nateva said they wouldnt have big name late nights and I think they specifically said we wouldn't see an STS9 but maybe they changed their minds. awesome find.
I happened to drive through Oxford over the weekend on my way back from Sunday River - def a sleepy town. drove past the (small) speedway where all this went down in the 80's. it's a good thing Nateva is relatively small - those podunk roads are going to be jammed.
there was a WalMart nearby - wally world and festies go hand in hand

Additions and price increase coming mid-week according to Facebook:
"Hey there folks - Just letting you know that prices will be going up $20 per ticket towards the end of this coming week. We will be making an announcement of more bands midweek - followed by a price increase a day or two later. We sold through our early discount tickets a week or two ago and have held the prices as a courtesy to all of you for waiting so long for the next announcement of bands. If you feel like you are definitely coming to Nateva this summer, do yourself a favor and buy your tickets while they are still being offered at discounted prices."
Can't wait. I wonder if they will be running shuttles from the nearest airport, which is what? Portland?

Pretty much all of my friends are hitting up this fest, and jealousy doesn't even begin to describe my emotions. Nonetheless, I'm glad to hear so many people excited about it- gives me hope that this thing will prosper and come back even more awesome next year.

I'm thinking STS9 is definitely a latenight, but like an 11-2AM latenight followed by something more mellow
IDK....people from Nateva said that there wouldn't be big name late night acts and I think they specifically mentioned a band like STS9 wouldn't be playing a late night (before it was official that they were going). Also STS9 said on their site they'd be playing on the main stage (and it's known that late nights will be on indoor stages).
from STS9's site:
We’re also elated to be returning to the great state of Maine for a main stage play on July 3rd at the Nateva Music Festival in Oxford, ME.
People on facebook have been saying that they will be playing a late evening/sundown set. Pre-headlining for the Flaming Lips. We'll see though

but you won't find STS9 or Umphrey's playing indoors or at 2:00am anywhere onsite
I was actually reading this to mean that the latenight loud noise curfew would be around 1 or 2AM, but you are probably right, if noise is an issue, it makes more sense that the curfew would be 11 or 12AM for the local community
