Pretty excited about the addition of Alex Gonzalez to the Braves. More pop in the lineup and some good veteran leadership. Time to separate from the pack.

Me, too...I realize this is probably pretty common around your parts, but my father and I watched all 162 regular season games and all 14 postseason games in the 2004 season, beginning to end. That is the best sports memory of my young life, by far, and I don't imagine it ever being surpassed.
I still remember EVERYTHING about that year...how Trot Nixon was my favorite player because he was always so dirty, how Kevin Millar got on my nerves with all the "cowboy up" nonsense, how Mark Bellhorn would either walk, strike out, or hit a home run every plate appearance, how Bill Mueller ALWAYS came through when you needed him to and owned Mariano (the game that comes immediately to mind is the July 24 brawl game where he hit the 3-run walkoff job off of Mariano), how Pokey Reese was so fun to watch play SS but was possibly the worst-hitting SS in the league that year, how Doug Mientkiewicz would always come in in the 9th to replace Millar after he was acquired at the deadline, how I always thought Gabe Kapler was on steroids because he was SO ripped, only to find out he was a bodybuilder, how Mike Timlin was so shaky because he was so old, but somehow still got it done sometimes, etc.
I still get serious goosebumps anytime I see any footage of the 2004 season or postseason.
2004 was a good year. At the time I was a sophomore at college, about 60 miles from NYC - tons of Yankee fans everywhere. 04 was a sweet payback for 03, esp. considering I knew Sox fans on campus who got jumped after the Aaron Boone homer in 03. To be honest, I remember more of the ALCS that year than the WS.
Watching all 162 games, I can't even say I've done that ever. I been to a couple games at Fenway this year (Patriots Day, one in July, one more coming up Labor Day.) But watching a whole game on TV, esp. considering the Sox games take forever nowadays... I don't end up watching whole games.
I really do wish they would hurry up. Far too many 3+ hour games, 4+ vs. the Yanks.

Yeah, I agree, that's how it's been for a while. We always have a lot of patient hitters on the team, I think that's part of it.
In 2004, I was in HS, so I still lived with my parents, and we lived in Long Island. In 2003, I heard the neighbors going nuts at that home run. That was probably one of the worst moments not only of my sports life, but of my life in general. And then I had to go to school the next day (a Friday), and I went stubbornly wearing my Sox hoodie. It was beyond awful. 2004 made everything perfect. And, yeah, I definitely remember the ALCS more than the WS.
Yes, the patient hitters part does help. I just think there are ways which the game can be sped up. Some game vs. the Yankees in mid-May does not need to be overcalculated, which four pitching changes in the middle of the inning just to get preferable matchups.

Yeah, I'm definitely with you on that. I think MLB has lost a lot of fans because of the super-slow pace of the games.
They can limit visits to the pitching mound, deny hitters' requests for time, etc. There are many ways they can speed the game up. They could even invoke some sort of "delay-of-game" penalty for pitchers who take an eternity in between pitches.
