If you're in here then you must love Weezer an eeentsy teensy bit? Well, as long as you have fun, whatever floats your boat! You an laugh at me, I won't mind as long as you're having a great time.
-When I Hear My Name -Dead Leaves and the Dirty Ground -Blue Orchid -Passive Manipulation -Red Rain -Death Letter -My Doorbell -Hotel Yorba -Same Boy You've Always Known -Lovesick -Little Ghost -We're Going to Be Friends -The Hardest Button to Button -Black Math -The Nurse -I Just Don't Know What to Do With Myself
Encore: -Ball and Biscuit -Seven Nation Army -Screwdriver
Rivers on lead guitar at SuperJam would surprise a lot of people.
"Every note I play, every note I sing, is effortless. I don't want to have to practice scales every day before I go onstage. I mean, I did all that stuff when I was a teenager, but I don't need to do that now to feel like I'm expressing myself on my instrument. I don't dumb down, but my point in playing lead is not to show the extremes of my technique, it's to try to say something melodically. But if you put a gun to my head and said "Shred!" I could blow some mother******s away. It would probably be shocking." - Rivers Cuomo

Weezer would get shafted in any conflict with anyone else I want to see at Roo, but I would like to catch a bit of their show. Of all the acts that are being classified as 'pop' this year, Weezer is the one I'd be most interested to see. In the post 2000 era, Weezer became a band that had kick ass singles but albums that often lacked a pulse. I always found that they had two (three if they were lucky) songs that were actually good.
Pinkerton and first self titled album, totally different story. Awesome, confrontational lyrics about intense subjects backed by heavy riffs and delicate melodies. Hell yes. Pork and Beans? Hell no.

I am not here to bash, because I do and always will believe Rivers has talent. What pisses me off about Weezer is that I believe Rivers is wasting that talent. Sure, it's his band, he can do what he wants with it and all of that, but knowing what he was capable of and surely still is capable of, it bothers me. Look at the latest album. It is basically an album made for 13 year old boys. Did this result because of Rivers's lack of talent? Of course not. For some reason, he is choosing to make music like that. He's a very confusing guy. I don't know. I just wish he would make one more album of serious music like I know he can.

Yep. Weezer was my JAMMMM for so long, but I'm over it now. I'm not going to support someone who makes music strictly for commercial means. It's lame, and also you suck because more people would buy your records if they weren't trash. I saw them years back and they were awesome, and I actually won't even be making it to Roo this year, but it would pain me too much to find "El Scorcho" sandwiched between "Girl Got Hot" and "Beverly Hills." Come on, dude.
PS El Scorcho will forever be in my top 5 songs in the history of this world's existence.

I remember seeing them play at the amphitheatre in Nashville 8 years ago when they just released Maladroit. Crazy how it's been that long. Anyway, they were on fire. Literally, flames. I haven't seen a live show since then, except short video clips. I guess most of you have seen Rivers running around in a jumpsuit with the awkward stache minus guitar minus the signature glasses. It's completely lame. Not to say they sound worse, but it turns me off!!
I grew up worshipping Rock and Roll like a religion. I know its shortcomings and strengths but have loved it unconditionally all the same since I was eight-years old. I ran away and joined the circus and honestly, I'm still as obsessed as I was as a boy. I'm not a kid anymore but I still remember how it felt and it doesn't really feel all that different to me now.

Carson showed a clip from a live show of them covering MGMT. It was great. They're uniforms are kinda weird, though lol. Pat now plays guitar, in place of Rivers. Some random dude is on drums.

See, that's the thing. I do not think he is "selling out" or trying to make music that will be chart hits. I think he's just decided he wants to dick around and make goofy music. I think something happened with the way Pinkerton was received back in '96 that made him decide to forever stop trying to make serious music. Granted, his lyrics were never that serious to begin with, but you get what I mean. He seems to just be up there goofing off for a laugh, which I guess is fine, but I wish he would try to reach his full potential again.

the random dude is Josh Freese (APC, NIN). Great drummer. Not sure if he will still be touring with weezer at Roo. He is currently playing with Devo and the Vandals.

I don't care to find sources right now, but Rivers has made it perfectly clear in interviews his MO is to make a quick buck. The guy is ridiculous, he actually anaylzed the components of a bunch of hit songs trying to find the formula for the best (read: most popular) pop song. Cool, bro. I mean, whatever, the music business is a business afterall, and if people are buying records and going to shows then I guess you win, but it all feels fake as hell. And what formula, exactly, crapped out "Beverly Hills"?
I'm sorry, I'm really not trying to hijack this pro-Weezer thread, but I continue to be so so so disappointed with the career trajectory of this band.

Wow, yeah I forgot all about that rockstar. I'm surprised he wanted to f-u-c-k with them.

YES - there was something like that when Pinkerton came out. SO many people hated that album, at least at first! I LOVED IT...and forever will! I think that they've just been around so long that they are trying whatever the hell they want. Any band that's been around for that long changes styles some from time to time. Lots of times it is not well received due to expectations of fans. Remember the Metallica debacle....I remember lots hating them when they began to sound different...people wouldn't even listen to the stuff that they loved anymore. (NO, I'm NOT comparing Metallica to Weezer...hehe...just trying to use them as an example here! ) Whatever they make nowadays, they are still the Weez!

The four standard bonus tracks on the Red Album Deluxe could also double as a smurfing brilliant stand alone EP as far as I'm concerned.
Miss Sweeney
Pig
The Spider
King
I don't know how anyone could listen to those four songs together and say Weezer has stopped taking beautiful risks, they are worth the full price of the album alone to me. Especially Pig.
But I love not Pinkerton and Blue, I LOVE WEEZER, so I suppose ya 'gotta take whatever I say with a grain of salt
