honestly, they didn't really load the set with new stuff when i saw them in 05 anyways...with the exception of beverly hills, I enjoyed every moment of the set. Surf Wax America is absolutely insane live
Say It Ain't So Photograph Undone (The Sweater Song) Peace My Name Is Jonas Why Bother El Scorcho No One Else Perfect Situation Fall Together Death And Destruction Island In The Sun We Are All On NO NO WORD!!! Beverly Hills Buddy Holly --- Hold Me Hashpipe Surf Wax America
The four standard bonus tracks on the Red Album Deluxe could also double as a smurfing brilliant stand alone EP as far as I'm concerned.
Miss Sweeney
Pig
The Spider
King
I don't know how anyone could listen to those four songs together and say Weezer has stopped taking beautiful risks, they are worth the full price of the album alone to me. Especially Pig.
But I love not Pinkerton and Blue, I LOVE WEEZER, so I suppose ya 'gotta take whatever I say with a grain of salt
Right on! I really can't say that there is an album I don't like. I love how silly these guys are!

i agree with whoever brought up the bonus songs from the red album, pig is an amazing song and i have no idea how it did not get on the regular version of the album
that kids/pokerface video just melted my soul. i was already lifting my spirits about how badly i wanted to see weezer and that video just put it over the edge

Not bashing at all, I love Weezer, but I'll admit it makes me mad that the best songs on the red album were the bonus tracks. I remember listening to it first time, and thinking how bottom heavy it was and noticed that the songs were all bonus tracks. Also, there is probably about zero chance of seeing those songs live. The new album is not great, but I dont find it as bad as everyone is making it out to be. The red album had superior singles in my opinion. That said I will be at the weezer show having a blast (barring any crazy conflict).

I don't care to find sources right now, but Rivers has made it perfectly clear in interviews his MO is to make a quick buck. The guy is ridiculous, he actually anaylzed the components of a bunch of hit songs trying to find the formula for the best (read: most popular) pop song. Cool, bro. I mean, whatever, the music business is a business afterall, and if people are buying records and going to shows then I guess you win, but it all feels fake as hell. And what formula, exactly, crapped out "Beverly Hills"?
Wrong. It wasn't "a bunch of hit songs" he was analyzing; it was the entire catalogs by bands such as Nirvana, Oasis & Green Day. The way you phrase it sounds makes Rivers sound like more of a profiteer figuring out which sounds sold best. I don't think that's necessarily the case.
What you're talking about happened around spring of 2000. The Goat Punishment shows, their tour warm-up gigs after a couple years of inactivity, featured the band playing shows entirely of these bands' songs.
The songs that came out of that period were actually pretty damn good. I like Summer Songs 2K* - the third album that wasn't, scrapped by Rivers in favor of what would be 2001's Green Album - better than your average weezer. I'd rank that album above everything except Blue & Pinkerton.**
I take issue with you claiming that Rivers' songwriting was worse when he was doing the catalog analysis. Your example of what you believe to be a bad weezer song - "Beverly Hills" - comes from an album that came out in 2005. That song came from a completely different place than the one you're criticizing Rivers for being in. While I might agree with some of your general sentiment, your information is off. I blame Rick Rubin
And to rant to my fellow weezerphiles for a bit, a follow-up on the asterisks...
* The batch of new songs that weezer toured with which were (largely) scrapped after the tour in favor of the Green Album. A couple years later, Rivers released soundboard recordings of 15 tracks to a fansite - his intended 10-song album & 5 others.
Modern Dukes Oh Girl On the Edge A Preacher's Son Slob Dope Nose Mad Kow Superstar Your Sister Too Late to Try ------------------- Been In the Storm (goofing off in the studio, not tour soundboard) Ev'ry Night Hash Pipe My Brain is Working Overtime Peace and Quiet
We've all heard at least some of these, right? I can't believe Slob, Dope Nose & Hash Pipe were the ones from the era to see commercial release
** We all know Songs From the Black Hole is the real best weezer album, even if we haven't heard it all... right?
-When I Hear My Name -Dead Leaves and the Dirty Ground -Blue Orchid -Passive Manipulation -Red Rain -Death Letter -My Doorbell -Hotel Yorba -Same Boy You've Always Known -Lovesick -Little Ghost -We're Going to Be Friends -The Hardest Button to Button -Black Math -The Nurse -I Just Don't Know What to Do With Myself
Encore: -Ball and Biscuit -Seven Nation Army -Screwdriver
I attended the Chicago date of the Foozer tour back in 2006. On that tour, they were recruiting audience members to come up to play "Undone." The guy they brought onstage (red shirt, center) to play started singing "Blast Off!" over the intro to the song. This video comes from that particular show.
Brian just laughs... Rivers looks a little anxious to get the guy out of the way
While looking for a couple other tracks to mention, I stumbled upon a series of YouTube videos from this past December, attempting to approximate the album. Of course, it's anyone's guess... as far as I know, there's only three copies of something resembling a completed SFTBH in existence - two with Rivers, one with the band's assistant - so it's fair to say that anything anyone else says is conjecture. Anyway, here's one fan's approximation of Songs From the Black Hole:
I'm kind of surprised to see "Oh Lisa" included. I know that song goes back to at least 2001 - it was included with the Green Album leak I downloaded. I'm also confused as to how Waiting On You, with its "you're 19 days late" reference, chronologically comes after "She's Had A Girl..." (Also, I'm pretty sure "Living Without You" comes not from SFTBH but the Maladroit era - they were playing that one on that tour.)
I also personally think it's fair game to assume some songs from the Return of the Rentals album might have been intended for SFTBH as well. Particularly "This Love I'm Searching For" and "Please Let That Be You." They seem to fit in with the vibe/content of SFTBH, not to mention the involvement of Rachel Haden. I know that at one point, Rivers made Matt choose between weezer and the Rentals and Matt chose the Rentals. I suspect Matt's departure had something to do with the Rentals appropriating those songs.
This album would've rocked my smurfing socks off had it came out in 1995... still does.

I have quite a bit of Weezer stuff that isn't on albums as well....various weird compilations such as 'Lets Sew Our Pants Together' and such. Anyone else get a real copy of 'The Lion and the Witch'?

I had to drive down to smurfing Champaign-Urbana to get my copy of Lion & the Witch. It was either that or Electric Fetus up in your neck of the woods.
I think the rarest I've got would be the Pink Triangle radio promo single, if only because it was never commercially released.
I love Weezer. I went to see them open for Blink 182, and it was CRAZY how much better Weezer was. They are really great live. Rivers did this awesome thing where he looped himself playing each instrument to start Island in the Sun (at least I think it was IiTS). It was off the Mutha-Flippin' Chains!
ME TOO! they were way better than blink i was lovin it. saw them in Hartford, CT.

I actually managed a record store in Bloomington, MN - my pal at the Fetus got us a few copies - I still have mine - and two extra sealed. I have a TON of stuff - we should maybe do some trading!? I will make some stuff, and if you make it up front with us other lovers at the show find me and it's yours!
One of the tracks on there ("Oh Jonas") actually comes from a guy on my weezer forum who was kind of a tool. Rivers put up lyrics & tabs to a few SFTBH songs on his Myspace a few years ago, apparently because he didn't think he could just contractually release it, and let the fans take a stab.

Because it will just be that much more fun!!! Where's your sense of Bonnaroo adventure...hehe! ;D Besides, I'm not an easy person to NOT find...I stick out! You'll know who I am if you're up there! I'll prolly be the loudest one there..hehe! Thank you for that link!
Pretty psyched to see them. They're a great band, as logn as they stick to their older material. Who's hoping to see a KoL v. Weezer conflict? I am. I'd love to never see KoL on the farm...

I don't think a crowd favorite turned pop sellout group opposing a crowd favorite turned pop sellout group is a good strategy.
Emoney serves more of a purpose than any of you, especially Nate, whose incessant, garbled ramblings are so mindless and pointless that I get depressed just seeing them.
This is the only thread I've come by that has anything to say about Weezer at all. There just doesn't seem to be a good deal of interest in them here. I'm sure their set will be packed at the festival though. They may not have any credibility anymore (3 bad albums in a row), and they don't seem to be a good match for Bonnaroo. But their show will rock, and people will sing and dance along. No doubt about it. I saw them a few years back... they're fun live! And I can only dream of hearing Pinkerton in it's entirety. That would be an amazing show.

Sooooo rumors are flying that this tour will coincide with the Pinkerton rerelease and will entail them playing Pinkerton IN ITS ENTIRETY.
Discuss.
Yep - there is a re-release of Pinkerton, and then NEW stuff coming out as well. I bet we hear some new songs - and I bet a lot of you won't want to, but I do! I do enjoy all Weezer! It would be fun to plan something for us that are getting to the front and center for this show....like make some weird signs or something? Ideas? Anyone?

I missed seeing weezer about 6 times now and am SOOOOOOOO freaking STOKED that I am finally going to see them. I am really hoping to see the flaming w on stage but not really thinking it will happen :/
I moved to alabama this year and my gf still lives in missouri. I drove to missouri then we drove to st. louis to sit see blink 182 of all people JUST so i could see weezer.
We made all that drive to arrive at an empty parking lot. the show was cancelled cause dj am died and travis barker was at the funeral and stuff..
