I'm glad this thread exists as we actually named our campsite after porkslap beer last year. Anyway... this year my campsite will be doing the 1st annual Bonnaroo Beer Exchange, we will all be bringing a different craft canned beer and Wednesday night we will be doing a tasting and exchange of all the beer we bring...If anyone here wants to join let me know and you will all be more than welcome to stop by and join in

Where are you guys setting up shop? Are you going to be Tents Only or be by your car? I'd be game, but don't think we'll be making it to the farm until 3 or so in the morning on Thursday, which would be long past the exchange. Otherwise, I think it'd be a cool idea.
I imagine you're from the northeast? I don't think Butternuts gets too broad of distribution.
All that I saw at my local store was the H&I. It was $20 for the 12pack of cans. Worth every penny IMO.
EDIT: Cans were date coded 0 04 28A 1 BA and case was coded with a drink by of July 20 2011.
The date coded thing I'm not following--could it be it was canned on April 28th? Can't imagine they'd have a drink by date of only 80 days. To me, I'd want to drink a hoppy beer within a month or so of canning, but most breweries put ~ a six month shelf life on their beers, it seems.
Also, $20 seems pricey for a 12 pack of H&I, but that equates to a $10 sixer. They should still knock off a couple bucks for buying in bulk. . .
I was thinking the same thing on the date code. Wish they would put it in "plain English". I am going to get in touch with the MD distributor of Boulder Beer and if the price is good, I will have him drop a few cases at the bar I run. I only do business with the bigger distributors but I am curious to see what else I have been missing out on from the littler guys.

English would be too easy. With some of them, there are some tricks. New Glarus, for instance would have a code 0357, which would translate to the 35th day of 2007 (jan 4th). Easy enough, until they built their new brewery and no longer date the bottles. Meh.
Also, Sierra Nevada has a similar type code, so you can see how fresh your Torpedo and Pale Ale are. If I had a bottle in front of me I could decipher it for you, but alas, I am at work.
No idea on Boulder, though. If I get bored today or Monday, I may give them a call to see how far ahead they stamp their best drank by dates. My guess is five or six months, which is still way too old for a hoppy beer, IMO. I'm also whiney, but losing out on all the bright juicy hops only to be left with stale bitterness makes me a sad panda.

Well, if the date on the can was actually April 28th and that is the "canned on" date, then I got it at about 6-7 days old. It was the first shipment that the liquor store got of this beer, so it seems plausible. Plus, you would think any brewer who gave a crap about their beer would put a realistic "drink by" date on it. Assuming the April 28th date is correct, Boulder put less than 90 days as their shelf life which I think is commendable because IME, if the beer doesn't sell by that date, they take it back. Longer supposed shelf life...less returns. Stale beer= Sad Peach as well. If you do call Boulder, let me know what you find out. (I'm kind of obsessed with the H&I now.)

I agree, it would be commendable. However, from a business perspective, they'd be wasting a ton of money from putting such a small shelf life on said product. Even Sam Adams does six months. The shortest from finished beer to can/bottle I've seen is from Anheuser Busch (InBev), where they have 110 days.
I'll give them a call though to see if I can shed any more light on the subject.

Yes I'm from the northeast. The exchange will probably be more like 9pm Wednesday night. Ideally though all weekend It would be cool if we could all be exchanging and trying beer from around the rest of the country. I know that's what the brooers festival is for but this is probably a cheaper way to do it.
I'm plannin' on gettin' there Wednesday evenin', not sure exactly what time yet though. Hopefully between 8-10pm is when I'd like to be settin' up camp. But I'd totally be down fer a beer exchange. Sounds like a great plan. Especially as I'm comin' from DC, and meetin' up with a larger group in NC. Possibility fer some great craft beers.

Dude that sounds great! I'll be there. Seems like everyone here talking bout getting to camp around 7-10 wednesday night will all be semi-neighbors anyways!
ALCHOHOL POLICY: Our alcohol and beverage policy in the campgrounds are as follows: no glass containers whatsoever are allowed into the campgrounds or concert areas. Furthermore, no kegs are allowed into the festival either. We will seize ALL ‘excessive’ amounts of alcohol. “Excessive” means more than 2 cases of beer per person per car, and 1 1.75 liter of hard liquor per person per car. (i.e. amounts that are clearly for sale). No outside alcohol is allowed into Centeroo and the What Stage Venue.

Awesome idea! I just emailed my group and we are going to do the same thing. Several people coming from different areas of the country so we should get a good variety.

I'm blessed enough to live in the beer capital of the country, so I can find tons of craft brews in a can. I will most likely be bringing leinies and capital supper club. And I'm British...so a shit ton of Strongbow.
For those in New England, Narragansett just released their Summer Ale! They come in 16oz cans, and I wish I was going to roo just so I could enjoy this brew on the farm. The original lager style of Narragansett was my choice last year, and it was a very good, refreshing choice. I think this summer ale will be as good if not better, and more refreshing.
