^^ Maybe it was an off night, I see him every chance I can, and the only time he wasn't spot on great (IMO) was the night he was sick as a dog and the band went on anyway, and kept he apologizing all night for coughing, sneezing, hacking, losing his voice, etc... and he was so upset about it, but he played almost 90 minutes anyway, before finally giving up. And even that wasn't THAT bad (IMO)
But I am extremely biased when it comes to this man.
i don't know - it wasn't recently recently (kwim) it was like 15 years ago - his triumphant return to Jackson, Mississippi after being banned (so I was told) I do know that at 10:30 I was ready for him to be done so I could go home.
Hey Voodoo, you mixed something up, but I fixed it for 'ya!
Otherwise, I REALLY need to make this year my 3rd in a row, Ozzy and the Weez confirm it, plus SSSC, Airborne Toxic Event, Trombone Shorty... all the rest? Just a whole lot of sweet icing and savory gravy for me ;D
Anyone know where I can find a cash cow to slaughter?
I think they got it right. This will be my 3rd time seeing Muse this year and they are definitely a panty peeler. Awesome show every time.
Oh and if you ever find that cash cow please let the rest of us know.
BTW - for anyone who's attending Voodoo: if you catch me at Pat O'Brien's Thursday night I'll be buying a round of hurricanes in honor of Matt if you'd like to remember him with me.
^^^Awesome idea daisey!! Don't know if I will be coming in Thur or early Friday but I think we should do a round every night in Matt's honor...I'll take Friday night....probably not at Pat O's...but maybe at DBA if Lost Bayou Ramblers are playing or somewhere else TBA...stayed tuned on here to find out where but I'll def let everyone know.....Matt will be with us at VooDoo for sure!

Yeah. Matt and I had made plans to hang out together at Voodoo this year but now that won't be happening. I figured the next best thing would be to remember him with others who knew him so that it would seem more like his spirit was with us. I considered doing Friday night but then figured a bunch of people might be getting in on Thursday and would have nothing better to do that night anyway so it would be a good time to do it. I also figured people might be scattered at various venues during the festival for the late night sets on other nights. We could do a round at Tipitina's during one of the late night sets or something as well. Or a round at the Funky Pirate (since Matt dressed as a pirate last year and was certainly a funky guy). Maybe a round at Boondock Saints since our Matt was a saint. I dunno. We'll figure it out. I'm definitely down for meeting up every night after the festival to do a round in his honor. I would have suggested it originally but Rockinhood hasn't tracked down that cash cow for me yet so I can only buy a round for everyone on one night not all of them.
If people are interested, maybe we can band together & sponsor a tree at City Park in his honor as well. I love the idea of planting something living in the park so Matt can always be at Voodoo and his tree can grow to provide shade for people. I plan to do this regardless. Maybe not this year but as soon as I can gather the funds for the sponsorship. neworleanscitypark.com/katrinatree.html

I haven't considered buying a 3day pass in years. I'll be buying one after I pay rent this month. I'm still shocked. If I read this lineup a few weeks ago I would have just laughed. I'm down for toasting Matt. You guys will be on Frenchmen halloween night, right?
I'm so glad I bought my early-bird 3 day pass to this. Lacking on headliners... maayyybeee, but Muse and Weezer (if Bonnaroo is any indication) will be awesome I know. However, the undercard is where it's at.
Interpol, SSSC, JONSI!!, Minus the Bear, Trombone Shorty (this weekend was awesome, and I am so lucky to say I've seen him perform in the Treme almost 10 years ago when my dad took me), Raphael Saadiq, Galactic (seen numerous times in NO, but always bring it), Janelle Monae (she performed last year, but I love her to death and she's blown up this year) and Florence and the Machine!!
Now, draw your attention to the dance acts. Holy Shit. I never, in a million years, thought I would see Crookers and Boys Noize in New Orleans (ok maybe for another 3 years at most).
PVD, Oakenfold, Corsten, deadmau5, Crookers, Boys Noize, Afrojack, HOT CHIP!!, MGMT (don't get me wrong, I love MGMT, just now remembered them though :-P) ... would I be wrong in saying that is one of the best dance lineups from any festival this year? I know Perry's has some good ones, but stillllll....

daisy, I've been to Voodoo the past couple of years and have tix this year too. If I make it in on Thursday night I'd like to meet up to toast Matt, but if not I love the tree idea and I'd contribute for sure. Let's make this happen!

Awesome! I'm happy to have you. It sounds like we'll be doing a toast to Matt every night at a different bar. I'm buying a round Thursday at Pat O'Briens and Bamabelle is taking Friday night at a bar TBD. We'll keep everyone posted as Voodoo gets closer.
I'm still convinced that Soundgarden is going to be there.
Just a gut feeling.
NIN played Lolla and Voodoo in 2008 Jane's Addiction did the same in 2009 Three would make a pattern in 2010?
And Soundgarden still haven't announced an actual tour.
Of course I'm just forcing circumstances to appear the way I want them to, but...
Monday? Or just extremely wishful thinking?
Who knows...but they WERE rumored to be there a couple of days ago on CoS--and they've been spot-on about everything else. I guess we'll see on Monday! Soundgarden would be fandango, though!
Voodoo has two main stages, and the headliners swap back and forth between the stages. There are usually no conflicts because of this. It takes place on the quarter-mile track in City Park with each stage positioned at each end of the track.. the crowd just shifts between the two.

^ That's true for the main stages, but there are conflicts with the SoCo Stage and The Bingo! Parlor all day long, plus they are adding an electronic tent, though that may be replacing Bingo! or something.
I don't have it on my computer from last year, but I'll see if I have something to scan and post
Ya, with all those dance acts, they have to add a dance tent or something. Anyways, it's a long shot, but I'm aiming for FlyLo to be added on Monday and hopefully Phoenix as well.

I found a ratty printout from last year, Sat 10/31
The Main Stages are the column on the left, as said, there is no down time between these two stages, when one set ends, turn around and the other begins.
The middle column is the SoCo/WOOZ Stage and The Preservation Hall Tent
The right column is the Bingo! Parlor and something called VooBoo? that I don't think I even saw
The festival goes from 10AM to about 11-11:30PM Friday and Saturday, ending at about 9:30 or 10PM (I think?) on Sunday

Why is Jonsi listed so low? Coachella had him billed appropriately. He's the fucking singer of Sigur Ros and you're putting him that low? Shame on them.
A good add will push my hand on this... More notably I need it to push some friends hands to offset gas and hotel costs. blah....where is that damn cash cow!

^Nice! I only got to see them play VCR (my favorite song of theirs) this year. Glad I'll be able to catch a full set by them.
As for Jonsi's billing on the lineup...I'm still shocked Voodoo booked him. The voodoo crowd almost always disappoints me, I expect his show not to be too packed. I'll be on the rail for sure.
