here's some random youtubes of musicians on the lineup that some people may not have heard
Eli "Paperboy" Reed
Florence & the Machine
Raphael Saadiq
Innerpartysystem
Street Sweeper Social Club
Hot Chip (fucking rules! nerdy ass indietronic)
Metric
Deadmau5
Jonsi (this is sort of a documentary thing about the making of his live show. it looks awesome! i hope the whole setup is at voodoo! there's a song in the background)
Ferry Corsten (DJ)
Afrojack (DJ)
The Airborne Toxic Event
Ozzy (live last year)
Crookers (DJ duo - damn, I think this is instantly the electronic act i'm most excited about)
I'm a definite maybe. This could be my busiest fest year yet.
I'm still a maybe for a while, but I got a room on hold at the Marriot, so if/when I buy a plane ticket, just pick me up at the airport again and you are welcome to share!
The song in that Jonsi documentary is 'Go Do'. It is one of the most beautiful songs I've heard; you must listen to it in its entirety.
Crookers are dope, and they WILL be the best DJ perf. if they drop their remix of Thunderstruck. However, Boys Noize can drop some dope tracks, and what's best is that he isn't a laptop DJ. Also, never count out Oakenfold or PVD - there's a reason they've always been at the top of the best DJs in the world. Oakenfold's '94 Essential Mix is widely considered one of the best, classic mixes to date.

My boyfriend and I are pretty definite on this. Looking into hotels now.
Are there cheaper options than the Marriott Voodoo deal? How fast do the hotels sell out? Does anybody know what sort of options we are looking at here?
Anybody interested in possibly splitting a hotel room?
I've never heard of hotels selling out for Voodoo Fest. I don't know much about the Marriott-Voodoo deal, but I wouldn't trust that (nor ever trust the first deal that comes to me). Personally, if I were to look for something it'd be a smaller hotel, possibly even BnB type deal, that most people wouldn't think of booking. These are usually really nice to stay in, and only help to enhance your stay in the city. If not that, then the Sheraton.
I don't know much about the Marriott-Voodoo deal, but I wouldn't trust that (nor ever trust the first deal that comes to me).
The deal is $129.00 + tax per night if you book through Voodoo. In previous years it was $99. Rooms there are normally about double that or even more. It's nothing super fancy, but it's not bad either The hotel is right at the edge of the Quarter near the river, and the City Park Streetcar stops directly in front of it. Eventually, the deal will sell out, but reservations can be cancelled up until close to the date.
There is nothing to trust or not trust. You either like that deal, or you find another one. For 2 years now, it's worked out great for me. But that's me. There are hundreds of places to stay in NOLA, from Hostels that cost just a few bucks to 5 Star Hotel Suites and condos that cost a few hundred or more. From the heart of the Quarter, to way out by the Airport, and everything in between. That's one of the many great things about New Orleans. So many choices
was going to go to ACL, but now that Jonsi is on the lineup, i'm gonna have to go to my 3rd voodoo
I had tentative ACL plans as well, but it was going to cost my girlfriend and I a fortune. Voodoo is a surprisingly affordable option, so we're pumped! Not to mention the lineup just keeps getting better and better. Muse, MMJ and the electronic tent are well worth $150 alone.

Ditto. I stayed at the Marriott last year and it was wonderful. The staff was super friendly, it was clean, it was affordable. A lot of other people attending the fest stay there so you can meet up with a lot of them there and make new friends. They have a shuttle (fee) that leaves from the hotel if you don't want to take the streetcar. It's 2 blocks from Bourbon Street which is oh so convenient. And yes, the Voodoo hotel deal does sell out (the hotel doesn't sell out just the special Voodoo pricing - after that goes you end up paying double or more). I tried staying at the Crowne Plaza next door one year but the staff there was really unpleasant and the hotel wasn't as well designed. There are tons of other hotels nearby as well if you want a cheaper deal. Honestly, you don't spend much time in the room between the festival and partying in the French Quarter or attending the late night sets at the clubs so you can stay most anywhere.

PSA: Voodoo is offering an EZ-pay deal - you just pick the option when you check out, and you can pay in 3 easy installments. (no extra fee, unless maybe you have to pay separate convenience fees or some BS)

Has anyone experienced the LOA Lounge/VIP at the Voodoo???
I've seen some mixed reactions on the web about plunking down the extra $350 in cash. The most appealing appears to be a spot in front of the main stage (all the other BS looks typical; toilets and expensive well bar crap).
Just wondering if someone has done it or seen the areas for it if you've gone in the past?

Dan and I went GA to Voodoo in 2007 and 2008. There is no way VIP would be worth it, I think. Compared to roo or Jazz Fest it's tiny. You can get close for any show without much effort. The portos are clean, they sell Becks, the food vendors are good and City Park is really pretty. Plus, you're not camping with 75,000 dirty souls.
When the shows are over ride the drunk street car back to the French Quarter. Party. More shows. Crash in your hotel room. Both years we went with other Inforoosters from all over (we had Brunch!). So so so much fun. That's VIP New Orleans style. I can't see what more they could possibly sell you that would be worth it.
Overall, it is a lot more expensive than Bonnaroo VIP tickets. And totally worth it. I would go any year that didn't have KISS or Ozzie. Maybe next year. ;D
To answer your question though, I actually know nothing about the LOA perks. Sorry. I don't think anyone on the board has done it?

I agree with everything said above, except last year KISS was suprisingly good!! ;D

Not a Kiss fan, but I've seen them twice including last year at Voodoo, and if you can manage to check your brain at the door, they are one a hell of a rock'n'roll party.

I appreciate the feedback, saving me a few bones, I can then spend a little more after Voodoo at the aftershow clubs is my perspective at this point.
Ozzy should be awesome not from the perspective of his voice, as it has been shot for some time now. BUT gotta admit having the Prince of darkness perform on the night of darkness is one entertaining idea.
I'm wondering how the MMJ vs. Weezer dynamic is going to work.
MMJ is ahead Weezer on the banner (I think that should be the case). I must admit closing out each night with that mixture is appealing as hell.

I've been in the VIP area a few times. If you're in there and you didn't pay for it, it's OK. But paying for VIP is a huge waste of money. Putting the money you would have used for VIP towards after shows is the way to go.
So what exactly is the deal with the "aftershows"? Is it as formal of a process as ACL and Lolla, as in, do they release "official" acts and on-sale info or do these acts just kind of book themselves and appear on club listings around town?

It's pretty informal. The artists show up at a bunch of clubs (Tipitina's, House of Blues, and a few others) around town for the late night sets. You can usually buy tickets directly from the club websites for about $20-30 bucks. You should buy them as soon as they go on sale though since some of them will certainly sell out.

There's a few "official" pre/post Voodoo shows, but as Daisy said it's pretty informal.
I can't wait to see who's playing aftershows. I heard a rumor for one bar, if it turns out to be true I'll be a happy guy. There's no way one of the electronic acts doesn't end up playing Ampersands.
