Jim James did tell me that MMJ would be opening for Arcade Fire on Friday at Bonnaroo and not playing late night. He said 8-10 followed by Arcade Fire.
I know I'm in the minority but I was kinda hoping MMJ would open up for AF. Only because I really wanted to catch their show but I didn't want to miss a bunch of other ones while MMJ played another 4-5 hour show.

This MMJ schedule news is bittersweet to say the least. I'd rather have a late night, but, oh well, it will still be stellar, and this really opens up my Friday late night.

Exactly what I'm thinking. I was leaning towards seeing the 4-5 hour show over anything else, but I'd be so upset about missing the late night tents. Looks like now I don't have to miss out on it! Sucks that they'll have a time constraint, but oh well.
Lookin forward to a Matt and Kim, Flecktones, Primus, MMJ, Ratatat, Big Boi, and Pretty Lights day!
This is the first message board I've ever been on, the only reason I joined is because I love Bonnaroo and wanted to read and talk about it all year long.

Although I have expected it for a while and did not really want to believe it, I've now reached the stage of acceptance with MMJ pre-headlining for Arcade Fire. While I would have loved another 4 hour marathon, the pre-headlining slot can be incredible. Wilco into Bruce in '09 was probably my favorite Bonnaroo moment, and I fully expect Friday X to top that. The silver lining, of course, is opening up the Friday late nights for me.
Plus, I believe it will also be MMJ's What Stage debut, which is exciting.

So does that mean Friday will have no unopposed headliners like in 09?

So did it make it or brake it? I'm not going to let 2 hours less MMJ than I expected ruin my weekend or change my plans. I can see the shimmer of a silver lining and it is telling me that getting to see some crazy LN tent Leno I would have missed which will be awesome.
SP/ACE probably saved lives by not holding the marathon we all wanted. Instead we will get a small break followed by more dancing/tomfoolery. I'm all for it
I'm okay with them pre-headlining. Lets me see more late night acts.
Now the goal is to HEADLINE and get 3.5 hours next time they play.
IMO and probably yours as well they could headline the What for 3.5 hours this year. If they explode in popularity over the next year maybe they'll be back to do just that at Roo 2012. To be honest though I really hope they don't break into the mainstream.

At least they've been getting progressively better billing each year (with one exception). It's pretty upsetting when acts like Black Keys, Phoenix and KOL can do it much more quickly, but it is cool to look back and find them getting closer to the top over the past 8 years.
