So I'm not terribly upset at only 2 hours. That's about what they had at Merriweather last year and it was a FABULOUS show.
I agree. Two hours is still a long time, and My Morning Jacket is the kind of band that wouldn't waste a minute. They won't be like Hova last year and leave thirty minutes on the table (even though Jay effing killed it.)

I don't understand though. I see Plant preheadlining Sunday, Black Keys preheadlining Saturday, but where is Buffalo Springfield? I cannot see them anywhere else besides preheadlining. That would leave BS for Friday preheadliner and give MMJ a late night slot.
I've tried puttin' in two different email addresses and still nothin'. Just tells me to check my inbox, and there is never anythin' MMJ related in it or my junk folder.
That's really wierd. I've had no problems the downloads. Maybe wait till monday when the next one comes and you will get one then. If you do you'll be able to get all the tunes in one go.
I think Bonnaroo is fucking up if they don't give Jacket a late night. Why limit a band capable of putting on a 4 hour show to 2 hours?
As far as that time slot being more prestigious or whatever, I don't agree. Late night shows are what make Bonnaroo special. Why not have the greatest late night band in Roo history actually play late night? Until they get a true headliner spot let them do what they do best.
Obviously, I'm happy to have them either way, but it definitely isn't what I expected. I'm still not convinced this is really the way it'll go down.
I just hope it's not true for selfish reasons...I'm neither a festival planner nor a member of MMJ so I can't really speak for the reasons for/feelings of putting them as a pre-headliner. I just was very ignorant, having not heard much about them before 2008 so I missed their show that year. I was looking forward to a chance of redeeming myself.

I posted this on the MMJ message boards because a lot of people there were complaining about the possibility of no late night set:
My Morning Jacket played a one hour set in 2003.
They played an hour and a half set in 2004.
The had an hour and a half long set in 2005.
They had a two and a half hour set in 2006.
And we all know about the 3+ hour set in 2008.
But the key thing to remember in EVERY one of those shows is that My Morning Jacket rocked faces and won over many fans and continued their journey to where they are today.
I think a lot of people here are upset and that's understandable because who wouldn't want to see their favorite (or one of their favorite) band play a marathon set at one of the biggest music festivals in the country. But I think people are looking at it the wrong way. I feel like playing 8-10 would be amazing for MMJ and they would be playing in front of a huge crowd on the biggest stage in what essentially has been the headliner slot in the past. Even if Arcade Fire plays after them......My Morning Jacket is basically headlining Bonnaroo and playing the prime spot on the What stage.
I feel like Jim and the gang wouldn't take this news as hard or negative as some of the fans here seem to be and maybe we should try viewing it from some other perspectives. I personally am happy that it frees up more time for the late nights which are usually filled with conflicts. Now I think I will get to see the full Dr. John set that I wanted (i'm assuming he's playing late night).
Either way......MMJ will be amazing . 2 hours or 4 hours. I think it's amazing that Roo has given them so much exposure over the years and allowed them to take a few prime late night slots that only a handful of bands usually get.

Im actually happy about MMJ allegedly as pre-headliners. I was originally hoping for a late-night marathon as Ive never seen them before, but I feel like this will really help out with conflicts. Especially Big Boi on Friday night, which I assume will be a late night.

Well put. That's the same rational I've been going with as well. Bottom line--FACES WILL BE MELTED AT MMJ!!!!

I think MMJ played 3 hours in 06...only reason I say this is bc I remember being at Umphrey's from 12-2 and MMJ from 2-3. But, maybe they didn't go on til 1230, so I could be wrong.
Either way, yes, MMJ will melt faces for whatever set they play.

It's possible. I was going by the old schedules I had. They were scheduled for 2.5 but I could see them playing a little more since it was late night without anyone after them.
