^ No, I think you are right despite what others may think. Although I wasn't the biggest fan of KOL as a headliner they had blown up enough to be a headliner (albeit on material I am not a fan of).
I love MMJ and never miss them when they are playing near me. That being said, they haven't had the mass appeal album to allow them to sell out arena sized venues. Perhaps their forthcoming album will get them there but I don't see them selling out what they have created thus far to make an album full of radio singles. I am more than fine with this.
MMJ will be there next year and I think they will sub headline Sunday on What, allowing them to graduate to the main stage (given they have played Which LN I don't see them doing that again).

You bring up a valid point, but I still believe that they are worthy of a headlining spot. Bonnaroo always has one headliner that is either jammy and/or has a cult following (Dave, Phish, Panic, etc.) My Morning Jacket is both of those. Panic isn't necessarily a huge draw for most people; they still play mostly small/mid-sized theaters. But they have enough of a cult following that they can pull off a headlining spot at Bonnaroo. This past year, My Morning Jacket have been getting higher and higher on the bill at festivals (headlining Sasquatch! and Voodoo, preheadlining Outside the Lands and Mile High). Enough people know that they can bring it. If anyone doubts this, just ask any of the 40,000 people that were at Which at 3:30 am in the pouring rain on Friday night in 2008.

^ I am not saying that they couldn't pull it off (I have seen them kill it time and again live), or that they aren't deserving (they have paid their dues at Roo), or that you/me/half of inforoo/etc wouldn't love to see this happen, I just think that unless their next album is well received critically and by a lerger audience that it won't happen.
I will stay with them opening for Neil, Phish, or Further on Sunday night

I think it will be. They've been getting bigger with each album. After all, 'Evil Urges' was nominated for a Grammy. And maybe they aren't big enough to headline festivals at this very moment in time, but they are so quacking close to being able to do so. With that said, I would like to think that Bonnaroo realizes that and would want to be the first big festival to give MMJ their first headlining show.

Here's hoping your right, I would love to turn to my mates after a three hour epic headline set on Friday night and say, "Can you believe we still have 2 more days of music to follow that?!"

Ditto. Bonnaroo needs to get them before ACL or Lolla does. That way, they can always claim that they were the first major festival to give MMJ a headlining spot.
I'm probably way late to the game here but my dad recorded the Austin City Limits performance for me and I just watched it after class....
PUUUURE GOODNESS!
I still have it saved on my TiVo. Such a great performance. I love during "Touch Me Pt. 2" when they zoom out and they have those huge strobe lights synchronized to when they play.

Shit they should play all 5 albums at roo. Hopefully they do it again sometime in their career.... has any other band ever done this like they are in NY?

Coheed & Cambria played all 4 of their albums (when they had 4 out) back to back in New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, and London on their Neverender tour.
This is the first message board I've ever been on, the only reason I joined is because I love Bonnaroo and wanted to read and talk about it all year long.

I'm very Jealous. Still haven't gotten around to Wilco live and it's starting to really suck.
Regarding MMJ, I just don't think they can headline. I saw them at the St. Augustine Amphitheater and they didn't sell it out. Not even close. They were quacking awesome, but they didn't fill the seats. If DMB or KOL were at the same venue they would have sold it out, although I probably wouldn't have been at either show.
People put way too much emphasis on "selling out." MMJ, if a headliner, will probably be the 3rd or 4th name listed on the poster. People that go to Bonnaroo WILL see MMJ. People that are not tempted by MMJ will be lured in by whatever big names fill the 1, 2, or 3 spot. MMJ doesn't need to be relied on to sell a bunch of tickets. That's the beauty of a massive festival.

MMJ already are headliners...Langerado, Sasquatch, Voodoo...
St Augustine, in the middle of the week, does not equal Bonnaroo.

THANK you! I don't know why that's so hard for people to understand.
