Can someone inform me on the pros/cons of the tent only camping area. I'm thinking if we get stuck way in the way back of the farm with a 50 minute walk I may go for this option.
Also, when do you have to decide that your going to tent only camping?? Can you get to your spot and decide you want to be closer and haul all of your stuff up there.
Thanks for the help.....first time at Roo and cant wait.
When you arrive there is a chance you'll be 30 minutes away from the stages. Although I have been camped by pod 9 and that is farther than BFE camp at POD 1.
Camp 84 and 85 Katrina and Billy Zane is by Pod 6 according to last years map is the farthest that you can be from the main stage. It's about a 50 minute walk.
The reason why BFE has it's name is because it's secluded from the rest of the camps.
As far as having a 45 to 50 min walk. It really doesn't seem like that long when you're with friends sharing a few beers and enjoying the festival.
If you are by yourself you can walk faster. I honestly made the 30 min walk by my self in 15 minutes.
IF you really try no where in Bonnaroo takes more than 20 minutes if you put your mind to it.
And it's not like other festivals...COUGH.ALLGOOD.COUGH where there are hills that are 40 degree angle. If anyone has been to All Good know about the two hills I'm talking about. DEATH MARCH.
Bonnaroo is all flat land. It's an easy walk and most of the time a fun one full of a beer, people watching, and sometimes a shakedown with an awesome kid with long blond dreds shooting people with a watergun.

there are certainly some good points there, but one huge thing you forgot to factor in was the length of those walks late at night after you've been in centeroo all day, and you're exhausted. my group and i parked in BFE in 08 and camped in tent only, and i for one could not imagine walking back to BFE at 4am after that my morning jacket show. and you probably won't always have beer on you to make the walk easier.
it's also really inconvenient to go back to your tent throughout the day if your camp is far away. you'll have to resign yourself to the fact that you'll spend a lot of time and money inside centeroo. we brought a lot of food and snacks with us, and it was so nice being able to just walk 2 minutes away from the arch to get to our camp and chill out for a bit and maybe take a shower at our shower tent or get a good amount of alcohol in our systems before heading back in. we couldn't have done all of that as easily or conveniently in BFE
i will say that it really sucked lugging all of our shit out there though. we had beer, tents, bags, coolers, food, whatever, and we had to wait in line in BFE for about 3 hours until 8am when they'd let us go to tent only. after that it was a mad dash for about a mile loaded down with a whole bunch of heavy stuff. then after we finally started setting up, assholes were showing up in tent only with their fucking cars. i didn't go last year, but i really hope they cracked down on that bullshit because it was so unfair.
pros: You're very close to Centeroo. If you get there early you can have more room to set up. cons: You have to haul your stuff to tent only. You can't lock your stuff up in your car and have it easily accessible. You can decide any time to go to tent only. Even if you know before hand you're camping there, you'll still get parked like everyone else, then just grab your stuff and hike on over. Have a good time wherever you camp!
There is one thing I'm still a little confused on. Will it be hard to get a spot in tent only?? One person said there was a mad dash when they opened it. We are going to be getting into the long ass line to get in around 8 AM so I'm assuming we wont actually be in until quite a while after that.

Tent only is going to fill up quick this year since they took a quarter of it for the tent rentals. It's going to be more of a mad dash this year. I can't wait to see the rush of people come in while we're nice and comfy (and just as close) in access. Thank you Wolfaroo.

I was curious about this too, hardly worried, but wondering about a few things.
My group will be like 10-16 people, we are getting in early thursday (around 6 am) and are probably going to hike to camping only to set up a nice sized area with all of us. I was there last year and found room for 4 on thursday at 10:30 no problem. Does anyone have any experience hiking large groups into camping only? from what i recall, we should be able to find a spot to all be together, but it is a bit smaller this year...
worried about hiking all the people down to camping only (some newbies some vets who have never done camping only) and not having enough room to be somewhat centralized and all together.
do you think we could get more space than if we all got our cars in together and stayed at the cars? to me it feels from my memory last year in CO) like even with camping only being smaller, early thursday there is still a decent amount of room
cons: You have to haul your stuff to tent only. You can't lock your stuff up in your car and have it easily accessible.
hauling everything out there was definitely the worst part of the whole weekend for me. so for everyone who's thinking about doing tent only, definitely try to bring a wagon or something to make transporting your stuff easier. and in terms of not being able to lock your stuff up, it's really not such a big deal if you don't leave any valuables at your camp. all i brought was my phone, wallet and camera, and those things stayed on me at all times. my friend did have his bag stolen the first night while we were asleep, but the dumbass left it sitting out underneath our shade tent with his wallet, phone, and a carton of cigarettes in it. i think that could happen anywhere on the farm. someone later found the bag and brought it to lost and found though.

any input?
my group parked in BFE around 5:30am 2 years ago, and one of my friends who went with me is pushing our group hard to get there at the same time this year to get in line for tent only again. i really don't want to do that again, but given the fact that tent only is smaller this year and that we're gonna have a group of 7 this year, it might be a safe move to get there earlier and try and stake out a bigger area. i feel like you might want to get in line earlier than you're planning to right now

This actually works out, we will be getting in earlier but were going to wait at walmart for a bit before we went. will prob aim for showing up a bit earlier.

I thought someone had confirmed that the tent rentals were going in VIP and not the regular tent only area?
I may be wrong, and I would like to have this figured out before we leave.

About what time in the morning do they let you into TO? I don't wanna be napping and miss it cause I plan on coming in the gates Wed night.
a line will start forming towards the entrance of BFE early thursday morning, but they won't let you start dragging all your stuff to tent only until 8am. it probably took my group a good 30 minutes to make the trek up there.
If i get inside around noon thursday, will tent only be filled?
hard to say right now. there were still people coming into my section of tent only on thursday afternoon 2 years ago, but now that they've eliminated 1/4 of it for tent rentals i'm sure it'll probably fill up faster. i wonder if they absolutely will not let anyone who didn't rent a tent inside camp clubber lang or if they'll let people fill up any space that's not being used.

Aw man.
I found a map on the new Bonnroo app for the ipod and the hadn't taken any space out of tent only for the "Tent City" instead they took the section right about Clubber Lang.
Oh well, I guess if we are heading in Wednesday we should be fine to get in there Thursday morning.

I'm riding the Greyhound in and expected arrival time to the station is 8:15am on Thurs morning. Is there any kind of priority given to people that are not coming with cars to get camping space in TO? Or am I going to have to shove everyone just to be able to find a little spot in TO after traveling 20 hours via bus? ='(

no priority at all. i think you'll be fine at that time though.
and no need to shove (hopefully) make friends with your neighbors and maybe they'll give you some space

This is my first Bonnaroo experience, and I really want to do tent only. it sounds awesome. We're driving up Wednesday arriving around 3am Thursday morning and I had some questions...
Should we sleep in the car campsite until tent-only opens up?
When does the tent-only area open up?
If we drive up wednesday night, around where will we be parked?
Many thanks to whoever replies to this. I realize its a lot of questions, but I don't really know anything about Bonnaroo...

Thanks for the quick reply. I think we'll park in BFE and sleep in the car, then make the trek to tent-only, and hopefully Camp Inforoo. Its in the northeast corner of tent only?
