I'll be in Tent Only, haven't been there since 08', did volunteer camping last year. TO was so convenient. I'm getting in Manchester at 8:30 am Thursday so I'm hoping to get a spot as well. It is kinda dumb that they let people with regular spots possibly take up all the space for people arriving on foot, but that's life. It kinda defeats the "reward" of arriving in a greener way (bus). I have to ride on the bus for 20 hours as well, its gonna suckkkk. Coming from Wilkes-barre PA, eating corn treats on the bus to make the ride a little more fun

Greyhound trips can be quite fun, and it's a beautiful drive from PA. I just hope you don't get stuck sitting next to an old scientologist lady who won't shut up.
^ I second turtlebird's question. I'll be flying into Nashville late Wednesday night and we'll be staking out at the airport for the night in hopes of catching the first bus and getting a good spot in Tent Only. Here's hoping it's not full, but if it is... what then? :S
I've got a few questions. I'm thinking about doing TO for the first time.
Is it opening up earlier now? what's it like getting your space? do you have more/less/the same amount of space as car camping? Do they let you drive you're car up monday and avoid having to lug your stuff back? How's the experience compared to car camping?

I didn't go last year, but went the year before, I don't think it's changed much. I think I read on here that they are letting you in Wednesday night. So that should help. By the time I finally got in a couple of years ago (2pm Thurs) TO was REALLY starting to fill up. You have as much space as you can claim and protect. LOL And I have always driven my car in on Monday to load out.
I have never car camped. I have always TO. I love it. I love people watching so I usually get close to the road and chill in my shade tent during the heat of the day and just watch.
My friends and I are planning on doing the TO experience (we have some experienced 'rooers but most of us are noobs) any idea when TO opens up? Any additional tips would be much appreciated... We're thinking just makin the first dash carrying the bare essentials then hauling the rest of our gear down once we establish our spot... Hopefully it works.
i believe last year TO opened when the gates opened wed night carry bare first....YES! get/barrow/ find someone at roo with a wagon....it will be your best friend. the walk btw where you park and TO will prob be 20 to 30 minute walk when carrying everything
So I've been reading things across the board saying TO is shrinking and that they have been opening it up on Wednesday night now that they are officially letting people in early.
My only real question is how fast has it been filling up since they allow people in on Wednesday night now? My group left Birmingham around 5 PM Wednesday, through the tollbooths around 12:30 AM Thursday and to our spot and major set up done around 2-3 AM (We were put in Pod 9, Camp Lois Einhorn). If we arrive around the same time, will there still be ample space in Tent Only? I realize there will be some space, I doubt it fills up that quickly, but we may have a somewhat larger sized camp this year.
Curious about this also. We have 7 people coming with 2-3 Ez ups and a couple of tents (backpacking style so not too big). Would this be too hard to get a space? Last year was my first year and I was surprised by how little room you get in car camping.

My group made our way to TO around 3am thursday and it wasn't to crowded, however by the time I woke up on thursday, 9:30ish, it was deffinitly filling in like Dan'roo said.
I took the post-bonaroo poll questionair thingy (everyone should fill that out!) that asks you what your favorite/least favorite things about your Bonaroo experience were and what suggestions you have for improving it. At every opportunity I mentioned how I think it sucks that TO keeps shrinking. I'm hoping allot of other people did too so maybe that trend will reverse in 2013.
Thanks! Yea I really can't understand why they'd continue to shrink it. I can only imagine how many people fall into tents trying to get through there. I'm guessing the space along the fence gets taken first for that reason. Also, how many entrances are there into TO?

It's open on all sides pretty much so infinite entrances.

Huh, for some reason I thought I saw chain-link fences around it last year. Must have been something else. Well thanks!

Tent Only did open when the gates did on Wednesday last year. In past years they would make you stay in the pod areas until sometime, maybe 8, in the morning on Thursday. It was great to be able to get everything set up, hang out at your final camp spot, and be able to catch some extra rest before Centeroo opened up on Thursday.
So did tent only open up when the gates opened this year? I thought I read something about people being turned away until 8am on Thursday.
It was already pretty full when I walked by Wednesday night. You may be talking about the Pod 1 quarantine where they didn't let people leave until Thursday am. Well, didn't let people love who were unwilling to run through the woods to get out like rdk.
Ah yes, the Pod 1 quarantine. Easily one of the most frustrating experiences I've ever had; thankfully they let people out at around 3:00AM to go to Tent Only, which was pretty full by then. Really hoping there isn't a repeat this year, especially since I've managed to get parked out in that dump both years I've gone...

Ok so last year me and my friends were some of the first people on the grounds. Half of us walked in with tents and tarps to claim space in TO while the others stayed with the car. They got stuck in the pod 1 quarantine and weren't able to leave until the next day. At first they wouldn't let us onto the TO field they said it wasn't open yet we had to go set up camp somewhere else. They said it wasn't opening until the next morning. A group of about 50-60 people had gathered after about 45 minutes of arguing with Mounties. They kept talking to someone on there walkie talkies and Idk what finally happened but after an hour or two of a ton of arguing and people yelling at each they let us on. It was so worth it being able to go to and from camp all day.

Myself, bunny, and ODB gave up around 1:30am and returned to our mini-camp to catch a bit of sleep. Thankfully a few kind inforoosters managed to take our EZ-Ups with them at 3:30am and help secure a bit of space fer our tents.
Is it possible to have some people in your group get out of the car while waiting in the line to be camped (once in the gates)? Or will you get fussed at while walking your shit over there.

We're all a mess of paradoxes. Believing in things we know can't be true. We walk around carrying feelings too complicated and contradictory to express. But when it all becomes too big, and words aren't enough to help get it all out, there's always music.
