Just read this. My condolances to his friends in family. It seems we lose at least one almostr every Roo, but to loose a forumer hits even closer to home.
John: We don't even understand our own music Spider: It doesn't, does it matter whether we understand it? At least it'll give us . . . strength John: I know but maybe we could get into it more if we understood it
@ Epa730-if you read my post I block quote that post earlier in the thread about emailing Sanuks, but I am here not to pick.
I am here to say, I emailed Sanuks and here it is, with a very quick reply. I do not want to get too excited, but read for yourself, (the reply is before my email)
Hi Bryan,
I have to tell you that I have been amazed at the number of emails that I have received regarding Matt and his passing this last week. You and your community have been amazing at contacting me and apprising me of the situation and that we lost one of our best brand advocates as well as a really amazing guy.
Thank you for taking the time to email me, I am working right now on a blog as well as seeing if I can put together a donation in his honor. When I post the blog I will make sure we post a link on the forum, so be on the lookout (probably going up Friday).
I am deeply sorry for your loss, Matt was lucky to have such a great community. I took the time to read some of his posts on the forum, it is really sad to lose such a thoughtful and smiley guy. I love the idea of naming a shoe after him (perhaps his user name Carpe Diem?) If we get the opportunity to do that (and we are renaming a few pairs at this very moment), you can be sure we will let you know.
Best regards, Rachel

Dear Rachel or whom it might concern, My name is Bryan and I am a registered nurse living in Gainesville, FL. My girlfriend recently, upon my request, purchased a pair each of sidewalk surfers. I got the Kingston, forget what she ordered. We love these shoes! We ordered them for our first ever weekend of Bonnaroo(4 day music arts festival in Tennessee). To me the sidewalk surfers are a very comfortable shoe and yet very practical one. I heard about these shoes on a blog for Bonnaroo called Inforoo, under a thread title, "Best Shoes?", by a guy named Carpedm01, aka Matt Sloan. bonnaroo.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=logistics&action=display&t hread=5066 I have never met this man before. We have never talked, yet he sold me your shoe. carpedm01 recommend your sidewalk surfer as best Bonnaroo shoe. He turned a lot of people on to your product. He was honest about your product. He was your best salesman, free (maybe he did work for you, I do not know). "... And best of all, you don't have to be seen wearing Crocs in public!" was the line that got me. You should read this thread. He was your company's personal spokesperson to the on-line Bonnaroo community. Matt died over the weekend at Bonnaroo. Heat exhaustion. report said 108 degree core body temp. So sad, they say a Tragedy touches many. As far as I know, Matt and I have never encountered, but this story has touched me. You may already know about this. If so, I am excited to see the new 2011 CARPED01 sidewalk surfers! In memory of Matt. I bet they will be awesome! I will buy a pair. I know a shoe in name of Matt might be difficult, but think about it.
Keep rock'n good footwear.
one of your newest customers,
SCROG
I do not want to jump the boat but if we can "seize the day", I think we can do this. I already said I will buy a pair of the new 2011 carpedm01 sidewalk surfer. everyone should email Sanuks and let them know how awesome of a company they wold be to do this. Just my two cents.

I just found out today that Matt had passed and I've been crying ever since. WTF? How on earth could this happen? I'm so sad and angry right now. Matt was one of the best people I've ever met and my closest Inforoo buddy. I talked to him Friday and Saturday and he was fine and next thing I know I get home and find out he's dead. We were gonna hang out at Voodoo this year. There are no words to describe the pain I'm feeling right now. We've all suffered a massive loss. :-(

I was just thinking about this as I had my morning coffee and cigarette. The day this happened, after Deadmau5, my buddy and I went back to camp and got piss face drunk and went back to Centeroo to keep dancing. We went from about 5:30 until 7:30 dancing and drinking away at the lunar stage. Around 9, I went back to camp and passed out. I woke up around 1, and hit the beer pretty hard again. Again, I was shitfaced when I got into Centeroo. So much so that I almost hit the ground while waiting to get into the American Spirit tent for a break. Had I not had water on me, or made it into the tent, I too could have succumb to heat exhaustion and this could have happened to me. I was having a blast at the time, but looking back it was retarded. It was my 3rd 'roo, but here I was drinking away the hottest part of the day, acting like a noob. Knowing that this can happen to Matt, a bonafide 'roo vet, this can happen to anyone. Please, learn from this. I never want to hear of another inforooster dropping out there. Protect yourselves, and the ones around you.
RIP Matt, you were a great man, and I'm so happy I was able to meet you before you left us forever. <3
My condolences to Matt's loved ones. I just sent this message to Sanuk: I am sitting in my office wearing a pair of Sanuk Boardrooms. They are the 4th pair I’ve owned since reading a recommendation on a Bonnaroo forum called Inforoo. The recommending poster Matt Sloan aka, Sanukguy, was a great proponent of your fine product. Based on his post me and countless others have become Sanuk disciples. As you have learned, Matt passed away at this past weekend’s Bonnaroo Festival.
As far as I know I never met Matt but I feel, in some small way, a connection based on our love of Bonnaroo and your fine footwear. Please let me know if you were to memorialize him by naming a product in his memory.

that is the very hard-learned and unfortunate lesson here...

I've learned my lesson. Never again. I did well all weekend, Leo even offered me a beer at brunch, but I declined saying I wouldn't drink until the sun went down. It wasn't until Sunday that I stopped caring about the heat, and it could have (and indeed already had) claimed a life. I love you all, and this is a brilliant community we have here, we must protect ourselves and those around us. I wish it didn't take Matt's passing to put all of this into perspective. This is truly the most heartbreaking news I've ever heard coming out of a Bonnaroo.

I agree. It has definitely made me rethink how my night will go this weekend when I go to Electric Daisy Carnival in Dallas.
Please be safe. Keep each other safe, take care of each other.
And know that you are all loved.
I think this is what Matt would want us to know...
Yeah I feel like there is a lesson to be taken from all this. I hung out with Matt after LCD for about 15 or 20 minutes, he had a camelbak plenty of water, and did not look any worse off than the rest of us at 5 AM. I like to party, and I pretty much drink beer (PBR) all day at Bonnaroo, so this has been a bit of a wake up call for me. I have been thinking about ordering some custom Carpe Diem labeled bottled water to bring in next year and hand out to people who look like they need it.

Please, do it! That's an absolutely brilliant plan. Very poetic to give life to those that are in need, considering.
As a side note, I think I read that Matt was being cremated, is that the case? If so, spreading some of his ashes on the farm would be a beautiful way to honor him and his memories.

Perhaps it's time to start a mass emailing campaign to the Bobble people. He sold a lot of us on those as well....
And yes, he is being cremated. His ashes are being scattered near the beach in Salter Path, NC. In the ocean he can surround the entire world with his love.
^and with the ocean water turning to rain, he'll be back on the farm way before any of us are.
And he won't even need a tent. Bastardo!
I don't think his spirit is ever going to want to leave the farm. Official attendance for 2011 will be 80,001.
Edit: I'm sorry if my joking there seems in bad taste. I try to laugh and keep a smile on my face in light of any tragedy. It's the only way I know how to cope.

You know from the too short amount of time I spent with him, I think he would appreciate the humor. I do not think he would like for us to mope around, but rather celebrate his life, and use this to make ourselves better people. He enjoyed a laugh as much or more than anyone else.

Exactly. Matt wouldn't want us to mourn his death. He'd want us to celebrate his life. If we're not living life to the full every day, being happy and trying to bring happiness to those around us then we're not honoring his memory.
