I hate to say this, having been a Rush fan for years, and seen them many times (I was first introduced to this unheard-of band called Primus in 11th grade because they opened for Rush on their Presto tour) but are you guys nuts? First, Rush wouldn't be a big draw. Chicks do not dig Rush. Nerdy dudes dig Rush. Alex Lifeson got fat and females stopped going to Rush shows. No way do they headline. Yes, they're touring right now. They're playing more than a few state fairs. State fairs, kids. This is not a harbinger of a successfully resurrected career. They would be a very cheap get, and we'd be looking at an afternoon Which Stage or What Stage set at best.
Dude 1 to friend at Vapor Trails shows: Do you know what's missing? Dude 2: What? Dude 1: Women. There are hardly any women here. Dude 2: Yeah, but how many engineers are here?
Laggy, Rush would not be a cheap get for Bonnaroo.
I think the whole discussion is moot. They are on tour this summer. It seems Rush is a band that tours only every few years. They are on tour this summer, it's doubtful they will be available next year.
after the tour this year they are recording an album. so they will be touring next year.

Geddy Lee said they have been asked to play big festivals and passed. I am a big Rush fan and would love to see them at Roo, just don't see them getting to the farm.
Rush is huge. Their shows are consistently packed, and they would be a huge draw. They don't play festivals, but if Roo could book them it would definitely help with ticket sales and they would unquestionably headline.
Also, Rush is one of the most influential bands that hit it big in the 70s. There's a notion among hipsters that all other rock and roll died when punk emerged, but sorry, it's still going strong among a huge chunk of the population. Bonnaroo bands who've played in the last few years who cite Rush as an influence include Metallica, Les Claypool, The Mars Volta, the Entrance Band, Umphrey's McGee, Mastodon, Clutch, Baroness, and probably several others.
In addition, Rush has continued to evolve, still produces excellent new albums, and plays a killer live show. Neil Peart, one of the best rock drummers of all time, is constantly growing, reinventing his style and traveling the world studying indigenous percussion techniques. He's also one of the greatest lyricists in the history of rock and roll.
Yes, Rush has an association with music nerds, but everyone who posts on here is a music nerd, so get over it.

^THIS^ And i believe Rush would end up being like the Metallica show...everyone bashes it until they actually give it a chance and have their faces melted! I'm all for Rush on the farm
I was with ya, Boss, up until the part about Neil Peart being one of the best lyricists.
While I'm far from a big Rush fan, I don't see how anyone can downplay their influence and importance. Sure, other bands did it earlier and better (YES), the bands continued massive fan support and unrelenting work ethic give them so much respect in my eyes. Who cares if it sounds dated? It's fucking music and a time capsul... a reminder of where allot of music comes from.

Well you pretty much said exactly what i was typing so i will just quote and add a few points. IF you look at the current tour they play mostly arenas and large ampitheaters. Also, some cities had to add dates to accomadate the ticket sales, Chicago and Red Rocks are specific examples.
Other, bands that point to rush as a huge influence are Porcupine Tree, Dream Theater, Tool, Opeth, and Iron Maiden.
Whoever said they wont bring many women is probably right. A Rush show is a lot of dudes. But im sure tool and Metallica didnt bring a lot of women.
I am a huge Rush fan, but I will admit they are definitely a polarizing band. Usually you either love them or hate them without a lot of in between. That said they are definitely on the top line, not first probably 3 to 5, probably a Friday Headliner or the main late night act.
-When I Hear My Name -Dead Leaves and the Dirty Ground -Blue Orchid -Passive Manipulation -Red Rain -Death Letter -My Doorbell -Hotel Yorba -Same Boy You've Always Known -Lovesick -Little Ghost -We're Going to Be Friends -The Hardest Button to Button -Black Math -The Nurse -I Just Don't Know What to Do With Myself
Encore: -Ball and Biscuit -Seven Nation Army -Screwdriver
Count me in as one of the rare chicks who love Rush, Tool, Porcupine Tree, etc. I love their MUSICIANSHIP first and foremost (seriously, not one chick loves Rush for Geddy's looks) but hey, I'm not gonna lie: seeing the shows with a 25:1 guy-girl ratio doesn't hurt!
I once had a coworker who is also a huge music fan tell me that I was the only girl she had ever heard of that liked Rush or Robin Trower, who incidentally would be a great tent set maybe at some point?
So I wouldn't mind at all being one of just a few extremely cool females at a Rush set I wouldn't care who else was there.

Actually, I think that would all but guarantee their availability, since they'd be done with their regular tour by then. The timing seems perfect.
I'd love to see Rush...but I'm in the non-headliner camp. However, I'm not sure what you would do with them. Late night doesn't feel right, afternoon slot is not good enough, and pre-headliner seems like a pretty strange placement, too. Wherever you put them, I'd be psyched if they were on the lineup.

NoD are you really going to dismiss Metallica, Les Claypool, The Mars Volta, the Entrance Band, Umphrey's McGee, Clutch, Baroness, Porcupine Tree, Dream Theater, Tool, Opeth, and Iron Maiden?

They are headlining Summerfest this year so they they're playing at least one fest. I'd buy them as a headliner, although I'd rather see a lengthy Late Night set even more. Both shows I've seen were 3 hours plus so they could pull off an epic easily.
