I just saw Rush Monday night and it was honestly the best show I've seen them play. They were sooo tight and Geddy was able to hit notes that I would never dreamed he could have hit.
excellent, now i'm pumped for September! my birthday present to myself ;D

Good to hear I talked to guy a week or so ago that said the exact same thing. He saod it was the best they have sounded since the hiatus.

I would have to agree with that statement. Plus seeing them do Red Barchetta live was on my bucket list so that definitely made the show for me.
My father and I went and saw Rush when I was 15. He really didn't like Rush at all, but after seeing them live he was immediately converted. When we were leaving he asked me when they were going to be in Ohio again because he didn't have enough Rush.

Best live rock bands of all time; 1a:theWho 1b:Rush
Based on what you ask? Accuracy, energy and the word of God.

they could easilyyy hold down any slot given to them, headliner included. they are "facemeltingly" good.
Wish the sound (and setlist) was a little better. But the solo at the end of Working Man was pretty ace.
i didn't have any problems with sound where i was, but i suppose i can feel ya on the setlist, particularly if you are referring to the first set.
and yeah, they didn't go as all-out as on S&A, but that's because this is apparently a warm-up tour before they do a bigger one after the new album comes out.
the light show at S&A is probaly still the best i've ever seen.

Yeah, Time Stand Still and Presto are to me the worst songs from their respective albums. Would have loved to have heard Turn the Page and The Pass instead. Plus its time that they retire 2112. I mean they did it for Closer to the Heart, so why not that song? Also Between, Sun and Moon is a whole lot better song from Counterparts than Stick it Out.
I don't want to sound like a hater, but I just felt at times the show was stale with the setlist. I don't know, maybe I'm not as a fanatic about the band as I was when I was younger, but I still think I'm a big fan of the band.
But don't let me fool you, the highlights far out shined my complaints. I was so freaking happy to hear Marathon, Leave That Thing Alone, The Camera Eye, and Vital Signs live and no matter how many times I hear it live, Freewill rocks. That is one of their songs that never gets stale live. And seeing La Villa Strangiato live is always a treat.
see, i actually didn't like this solo as much as S&A's, but i mean, i was still blown away on every level possible. sat open-mouthed through the whole thing. would have paid the full ticket price for that alone. i'm sure you get it haha
i'm glad you love Freewill too, because it's always been one of my favorites ever sine i first listened to Rush, and yeah when i first saw the setlist (already so excited to see all of MP) i flipped that they were playing La Villa.
but i didn't mind 2112 at all, if anything it made me think they should do all of 2112 live, i think THAT would be an amazing performance, being a concept album and all it almost lends itself to that sort of thing even more.

The only song that I hought "why are they playing this" is Presto, besides that I loved every second of it. Gotta agree with you Radiospirit about 2112, I love the first two parts but want the whole thing. My dream Rush show would be them playing 2112 and Hemispheres back to back, which will never happen, but is fun to think about. Also, I thought the 2 new songs sounded great live. I'm definitely looking forward to the new record.
After seeing them on this tour I have to agree with you sang, they would headline. I saw them in Columbus and there wasnt an empty seat in the arena (18 to 20K), and from what I hear that is how the crowds have been for them everywhere. However, as much as I would love to see it I can't see bonnaroo booking them.
ok... so now that we have started to agree that they could and probably would headline, what are the chances that they could be bumped to late night or headlining the which stage? I LOVE Rush and they would be my top band to see if they were at Roo. But I'm just not sure Roo would book them as a top 3 act. They are too worried about mainstream appeal these days.
but i absolutely could not see them headlining Which. it would be an injustice. now, Late Night What could definitely happen, and might even be the most logical choice. Obviously Rush is a very polarizing band, so don't even make them unopposed (specifically, throw something chicks would like on what of the tents.)
I saw them last night for the 11th time, but the first show in 18 years. It was great. They seem to be having a great time and not so serious as they were in earlier years. Neil has actually improved on drums even though he was always great. There is a lot more nuance to his playing.
Does anyone think they were playing 2112 in a lower key? It seemed that way to me.
they play several of the songs in a lower key now to fit Geddy's changing vocals. The man still sounds amazing, but you can't expect him to keep the same range forever, and so they've adjusted to it.
It seems a lot of big name acts are changing their minds about playing festivals. Two examples, Springsteen, U2. I guess we can add Rush to that list.
I love it. It seems like every year Bonnaroo becomes more prestigious and an honor to play. Give it ten or so more years and I could easily see it living up to the "American Glastonbury" title so many people have given it.

They have announce they will be touring North America again next summer, covering markets they didn't visit on the tour this past year. I think Roo has a chance, I hope.

They could be a big late night, but I wouldn't be at all surprised to see them as some form of a headliner.
If recent years is beginning a trend of a theoretical 4 headliners, with 2 combining for a early headlining set and an early late night I could see Rush being included as one of those.
I think their draw is to big to be anything but a headliner. Their show is to long to be a split headliner ala Stevie/Jay-Z. I'm guessing Friday night headliner if they were going to come to Bonnaroo.
