It's weird to think about all these bands I used to see at warped tour playing bonnaroo. I think Sunn O)) would be a good hit for a late night lunar stage
Who the hell knew there was pirate metal? Alestorm
I saw them at the same show as Eluveitie!!! . The name of the tour was Paganfest in Springfield,Va. They were alot of fun. Accordion player, pirate hats and parrots, songs about rum, wenches, and keelhaulin. Good not so much.
Metal Bands that I would like to see eventually play, but hope some of these are in 2011.
-Black Sabbath: They invented metal. Nuff said.
-Mastodon: Would really love for them to return. New album is incredible. - Deftones: A great band for metal fans who do not like the scary metal. - Slayer: The scary metal band that other metal fans like. - Metallica: Because we Metallica fans are dedicated. We simply do not say "I like Metallica", we yell "METALLICA!". That said, it will be awhile before they come back to the Farm - Skindred: Their reggae/metal would be a great fit for Bonnaroo. Saw them at Warped tour, killer set. - Rammstein: Fun band with crazy stage show(Love to see at late night like GWAR) - Opeth: Progressive metal with skills. When they played with a symphony, it worked perfectly. A showcase of their talent. - Eluveitie. Dedicated fan after their show. They are like the Dropkick Murpheys of Metal. Awesome. - System of a Down: I loved their early albums. The self titled and Toxicity are one of the few "nu-metal" albums I currently listen to. Plus
^^^ God it has been two years. When they played back in '08. I think their set list only included Blood Mountain and Leviathan(could be wrong?). So if they ever came back I would like to see them play Crack the Skye. Specifically Oblivion, Divinations, The Czar, and Crack the Skye.
Thanks for the info on the live dvd, be sure to check it out
and they have a limited split 7" with ZZ Top coming out on Record Store Day. They are covering "Just Got Paid" on side A and the original ZZ Top version will be on the b-side.
I'd love it if Battles would return to the farm. I know they are not technically metal, but some of their stuff comes close and they are supposed to be releasing a new album and touring this year.
They're not an accessible band at all. Lots of people at the Atlanta date of that tour were booing too, but I don't really expect people who shelled out money to see a fake band get into something like Converge (I know some people were there for Mastodon and HoF, but the majority of the crowd was there for Dethklok). I've seen em 5 or 6 times and have had a lot of fun every set. But yeah...they're not for everyone.
They are one of the hardest working bands in hardcore, though. Jake runs Deathwish, they constantly bring out new band with them on tour to give them exposure, and they still run true to their DIY roots. Much respect.
Eh I can't get into Dethklok but I generally hate that style of death metal anyway. Overproduced and sterile. Give me Bolt Thrower and I'll be happy. And plus, let's be honest...most people who went to see Dethklok didn't go because they like death metal. They went because they like the TV show.
Their first few albums are definitely hardcore. They come from a hardcore background...they're more of a metalcore band than anything. Not in the whole HEY GUYS I JUST HEARD AT THE GATES, LET'S ADD BREAKDOWNS TO IT way, but more in the Shai Hulud/Earth Crisis vein of making a good mix of metal and hardcore. Their newer stuff has a lot more of the metal influence.
Guys I saw the Sword last night in OKC and before the show I saw their bass player Bryan. Me and my friends talked to him for awhile and we asked him about Bonnaroo and he said that they are playing this year.

Nice! I have no problem with the Sword at 'Roo. Their ol' school metal sound would work well with Bonnaroo. Their sound reminds me of Sabbath and Motorhead.

I wouldn't recommend starting with Orchid or Morningrise. I would start with My Arms, Your Hearse and go from there. Still Life, Blackwater Park, Deliverance/Damnation, Ghost Reveries, Watershed....all masterpieces of music, not just metal.
And we have official confirmation of Opeth!!!!!! Oh my quacking god I have waited years and years for this!!!!!!
dude they tour the US pretty much every year...
Yes I am aware...I've been to several shows. I was speaking of seeing them at Bonnaroo...whole different crowd makes it a whole new experience. I'm a huge Opeth fan...got the O tattooed on me for life...
