Hmmm - I'm not terribly familiar with Columbia hotels since I'm only 20 minutes from there, but I have a friend who lives walking distance to MPP. Will report back!
Edit: While I wait for their response, I just checked hotels.com. Looks like after the Sheraton, the Hilton is the next closest. After that, it seems like you'd have to just drive/take a cab. Or maybe some of the hotels would have a shuttle? But I'll let you know if one of my friends knows something else.
If you're not familiar with the venue/area, it's right next to Columbia Mall - like I've parked in the mall parking lot before for shows. So if MPP isn't showing up on your map, look for the mall.
2nd edit: from a friend (and Roo-goer!) who used to live in Columbia and is very familiar with MPP:
The next closest one is the Hilton, which is on the otherside of 29 if you are on Little Patuxent Pkwy, and would be one heck of a long walk
It is at the corner of Broken Land Pkwy and Snowden River. Still probably a mile walk from Merriweather, but a straight shot since Merriweather is at 29 and Hickory Ridge Road.
I'm bummed. I couldnt order tickets in time since I was distracted on vacation in Boston. damn it! I hope I can find tickets... I didn't get to make it last year.

Hey Ellie, I will most likely have at least one extra and possibly two, my friends are having trouble getting the days off.

I'm going to this one.
I went to this last year and back when it was a paid fest in 07 and 08 (was too young for 06 where you had The Killers-The Who- and RHCP back to back to back on the same stage with Wolfmother and I think the Racounters too on the stage that day).
You want to park at the mall. Its not a long walk at all.
Also I think they dropped a ton of tickets last year before the show since they cancel a bunch because people try to but 6 at the same address etc. I heard rumors on fb and other boards last year that people were able to buy tickets at the box office day of but I'm not sure if that's true.

As is right now, I'm going to this. Got in early enough for free tix. But, after seeing how the lawn is set up at MPP this past Friday at Arcade Fire (at which I luckily had seated tickets inside the tent), I might sell mine to be able to afford Moogfest tickets.

Haha, I'm tempted. I'll probably still end up going, this'll be fun. Anybody know if we can get into the pit with the GA tix? Or are all the free tix for the lawn?

I'm pretty you can get in pavilion with the free seats. Last year there were apparently huge lines to get into the Pavilion (I wouldn't know because I didn't go to that stage at all) and if you left your friends to go to the bathroom or something you couldn't get back in with them you had to wait in the line and when someone leaves you got to go in. To avoid that conflict, you can buy specified seats in the pavilion this year but those won't take up all of them. Or at least that was my understanding. To get into the pit last year you needed a special wristband but I wasn't sure if that was something you got ahead of time or got at the show.
Also the second stage last year had an arguably better lineup (St. Vincent, National, Hold Steady, Public Enemy, Girl Talk, Franz) and you didn't have to deal with any of that. I just showed up early, got right on the rail and stayed there all day. You don't need to buy anything for that nor do you need to buy anything for the Dance Tent. And I'm guessing since the pavilion is going to have Luda, TI, and a number of other acts I have no interest in seeing I'm gonna do the second stage again.

Sorry to hear that EMR. That area is just so expensive anyways even with "free" tickets.
You guys can add karosko to the list of inforooers attending this. My girlfriend and I will definitely be attending now that I got Moogfest tickets and cut out MMJ from my fall schedule.
They have finally updated the main site. In the Info section, it says they will release a schedule a week or two prior to the festival. There are also some Dance Forest additions: Sharam and Wolfgang Gartner. Maybe I'm just not remembering correctly, but is Yeasayer a new addition? I don't recall them being on the lineup before.

Best case scenario for the schedule would have:
Thievery Corporation, Temper Trap, Jimmy Eat World, Ludacris, Joan Jett, and T.I. on the main stage
Yeasayer, Pavement, MIA, LCD Soundsystem, Ed Sharpe, and Matt & Kim on the second stage, outside the tent.
This is way I won't be more than mildly interested (Thievery Corp, T.I., Ludacris) about any of the shows in the main stage and I can stay on the lawn and dance forest all day.
well, if any of you guys want to share the wealth and send your tickets to a closer person (I live in northern VA), feel free to let me know cause i have friends that are interested in goin that weren't able to get tickets. I found someone who has a few extras that should be sent for me and 2 other friends, but I know I can find more people and would hate to see any tickets wasted.
