his live show is very killer, maybe i was overshooting with a what stage. but all i was thinking was the kind of crowd that was at mighty clouds of joy, or big sams funky nation--- both early what stage acts, and barely anybody there.
i feel like AL could totally draw a crowd in way more significant than those groups. comedy tent wouldnt work-- his shows are full on rocking concerts that need a stage to support the videos, lights, and visual effects.

I'd never begrudge anyone an act they really wanted to see at Bonnaroo. And Weird Al is certainly a living legend in his game,
But given the choice of this type of performer, I'd personally much rather see "DickCheese and Lounge Against The Machine" @ 2AM in the smoky Latenight Lounge spot. (A tent they just haven't added yet )

ive seen him and i have to say i was blown away. the guy changes clothing about 25 times and he uses a huge array of media. he does some stand up in between songs at times. he brings energy and he interacts with the crowd. i was THOROUGHLY impressed with him. some of his versions are better than the originals IMHO. i think he would be GREAT at roo...maybe late night...you can certainly dance to most of his stuff and sing along too
if you look i'm sure you'd see that nothing's really as it seems and soon enough you'd realize you promise more than you'll provide the substance that we're hoping for will always leave us needing more we're calloused til we cannot feel the only moments that were real

He puts on a hell of a show. I'd watch him at Bonnaroo for sure. And I would love for Dick Cheese to be there but Lounge Against The Machine is no more. He's workin on getting a new band together.

Been a big fan for ~25 years. Always heard he put on a great show, but never having seen him in concert, I jumped at the chance to take my (much) younger brother to see him just a couple of months ago.
Fantastic show indeed! He truly is a great entertainer. However, not sure if he's still as big of a draw as others are claiming. I saw him at an arena that holds roughly 10,000. The stage was set up at one end of the floor facing that end, with only about 1/3 of the seats in the arena for sale (plus some seats on the floor). Of these 1/3 the seats were - at most - half full. So I would estimate there were between 1,000 and 1,500 attendees. Actually, I just looked online and they still have his seating chart up:
So maybe closer to 2,000 given that the floor was almost full and the lower and upper level seats were MAYBE half full. Either way, I can't see the Family Arena paying a $100,000 booking fee for someone that's gonna sell 2,000 tickets, but maybe I'm wrong.
But yeah, if Weird Al and I were both on the farm, I would definitely be there.
And UHF is indeed a great movie, my friend and I used to watch a triple feature of UHF, This is Spinal Tap, and Live After Death nearly every day after school ;D

Great entertainer and would put on an awesome show. I doubt i'd catch his act unless there was absolutely nothing else of interest going on at the time but it would still be a decent/funny/well-played show

bumping this thread and changing the title with the hopes of sparking more weird al discussion and gain some lineup karma for the artist additions next week.
You all are crazy, but it's a big festival, guess there's room for Weird Al, I just don't see it happening.
He sells more tickets than Arcade Fire.....
Yeah and I'm pretty sure he costs about 20 times as much to book.
This idea pops up all the time and it is just terrible. You don't want a festival to spend headliner type money on a comedy tent caliber act.
He's in good company. Acts like The Wiggles, The Jonas Brothers, Miley Cyrus, Yo Gabba Gabba, Nickelback, Creed, Switchfoot, and Disturbed also out-sell The Arcade Fire.

I would hardly call me quoting your post from a recently bumped thread "obsession" but glad we get to see yet another display of your horrible attempts at snarky humor. Leave it to the pros. I also didn't notice that post was so old because whenever someone brings up Weird Al at roo I get a rage blackout.

I have nothing to back this up, other than the fact that he oftens plays at county fairs. That alone leads me to believe he's not too expensive to book, because those fairs and stuff don't have abundant $$ to dish around.
I'd like to think that he's not too expensive, and although I agree that he won't BRING people to bonnaroo (that otherwise would not go), i think thousands of bonnaroovians will be glad he's there when they get there.

Really I think it would be fun, I grew up with a vinyl copy of Weird Al in 3d, and it is a great album.
Edit Also snarky or not it still is funny.

So?
You do understand that not everyone reads all the posts at the same time
I've quoted really old things if I felt like commenting on it after just reading it for the first time. It's not like he went looking through all your old posts to find something you said just so he could tell you you're wrong. Just seems like the thread got bumped and he read through it and wanted to comment. He made some good points about the topic/discussion that you could have responded to.
Personally I think it'd be pretty awesome if Weird Al had a show at Roo. I was a fan of his stuff growing up but MC is right about him being a pretty big sized act. Probably too big for the comedy tent. I wouldn't mind seeing him in some kind of stage slot similar to Tenacious D who are comedy music as well.
I doubt it will happen. I'm not sure how much it would cost to book Weird Al even though I am aware he's pretty popular and can sell tickets. He seems like a pretty down to earth guy (funny how "Weird Al" can seem down to earth) based on what I've heard from him on podcasts like Comedy Bang Bang.
Something I'd happily settle for is hiring Weird Al to make a song/video for the Bonnaroo Lineup announcement next year. That could be hilarious/interesting.
