weird al yankovic. multi platinum constant in music parodying the widest spectrum of artists and genres...

i think he would a perfect what stage act early in the day. music has changed and evolved sooo much over the past 30 years, but one constant that we'll always have is weird al to poke fun at it all.

My immediate response to this idea is rolling eyes and my face in my palm.
But in all honesty I used to LOVE Wierd Al and when it comes down to it I'd bet his show would be alot of fun. If there were no conflicts I cannot deny that I'd be there. I can't see him on what either. I don't think he'd get a big spot. He's lost alot of momentum over the years. I've hardly heard him mentioned since the late 90's. I'm thinking mid-day tent.

Once again, an artist is being undervalued. "Weird Al"'s most recent album went to #10 on the Billboad 200, went gold (it's single "White and Nerdy" went platinum), and was nominated for two Grammys. He'd at least be on which, but if the D can play What, "Weird Al" certainly can.
According to setlist.fm he plays bigger venues than Arcade Fire......... He is a pretty big draw for a lot of people I am with Steve more than likely he would be in Tenacious D's spot. Though late night Other Tent would be a possibility as well.

I'd be down to see him. I was pretty certain Weird Al was the guess to one of the Roo Clues this year. He was touring... I was actually a bit disappointed when it turned out not to be him.
I would totally catch "Weird Al" so long as there were no major conflicts. I think he'd make a great afternoon set on What or Which. That or maybe a tent on Sunday.

And I've said this around here before, and hopefully others can back me up... I've seen the man live twice and his show is serious business. Not only does it include costumes, video screens (another reason for being on What), props, choreography, and lots of other gags, but it's a solid 2 1/2 hour of all these elements.
Alfred Yankovic is a hard-working entertainer, make no mistake. And it is very difficult not to have fun at his show.

yeah, if he played i think he would probaly be early on What, mayyybe Which, but a Tent couldn't hold his setup or the crowd he'd probaly draw.
i feel like people kind of forget about Al in between albums because most people dont sit around and listen to parodies again and again like they would other forms of music, which is why it might feel like he's not all that big.
but he can definitely draw a crowd and would be higher that many might expect, especially if he was promoting an album.
I think it's be really cool to see weird al. but placement would be kind of hard wouldn't it? i couldn't really see him on What, but idk when a good spot would be for him on Which because you don't want to go giving away a prominent spot in a major festival to a parady artist, a novelty (or do you). and i know for a fact he is pretty pricey to book. the radio station my dad was working at looked into it and he was around the $100,000 mark.
He was actually my first concert. If I was in sixth grade that would've been...1996? I think that's right. I had just turned 12 and got to see him while visiting relatives at a fair in Wisconsin that summer. Loved the show then. I've wanted to see him more recently but I just haven't been able to work it out anytime he's on tour. So again I say "YES!" to some "Weird Al" Yankovic!

I can't see a novelty act getting such a big spot. Tenacious D got their spot because it's Jack mothafunkin black, who is kind of a big deal. And there are people who actually love their music.
Wierd Al is kind of an odd act to book(in more ways than one). There would be alot of appeal, alot of people would see him, but I don't see him being a 'draw'. Nobody will be going to bonnaroo just to catch him. Given that, and his high booking price, I just don't see it happening. It would be a waste of a high-profile slot.
You can poo-poo the idea if you want, but I've actually heard from several people that he puts on a fantastic live show. I could definitely see him carrying on the recent tradition of pre-headlining comedy acts on What Stage, ala Chris Rock and Tenacious D.
Strangely enough, this is the tune I most associate with Weird Al. I'm quite certain that his album "Even Worse" was the first cassette tape I ever owned.
