It would be awesome if someone could breakdown the best method of getting from VIP camping to get in line for your average show or for Mumford. Do you go to VIP line? Do you get in GA line hours before? I'm more of a fan of the pit, is it worth getting there hours before or will What stage be suitable for all views.
I would love to hear from an expert how they go about seeing the XX and how they switch up the method when they want to see Tom Petty.
Thanks so much for your help. I really appreciate any time to help out a Rookie.

The VIP viewing at the What Stage is either the bleachers on the right side (facing stage) or the hill on the left side (facing stage) both of which are fairly removed from the front, or have awkward site lines (bleachers). The "PIT" is not segregated for VIP/GA at What Stage, you are forced to wait in the same line. If you want pit for Mumford, I would get in line 3-5hrs before.

This may have already been covered, but I don't recall. Are the VIP viewing areas for What/Which covered? Or is there an option for shade there? I only ask because I realize (after looking at the schedule), that there are LOTS of day shows on these stages that I want to see, but I'm very fair-skinned and would love to be able to get some shade here and there!

No shade for either of them, but they have VIP tents for cooling at both with bars in them.

Definitely sounds doable - I'll bring my floppy hat and lots of sunscreen (of course)!

I keep seeing that the bleachers at the what stage are VIP. I was told it was for people with guest passes, even though I had gotten in there earlier the same day. I managed to accidentally get myself in a couple areas I shouldn't have been able to be in, were the what bleachers another one? lol

Which stage has a tree, but get there early. Although its a little ways back from prime viewing area, still dounds good from there, can still see clearly( from a distance ) and trees pretty much invented shade. What stage has a mist tent at the very back part of the field. My first year was 2011. It was hotter than a heat rash of Satans dick. I would cook for 30 mins or so, then run back to the mist tent and recharge. Again. Not prime for viewing.
Heres a question. Do I remember the grass in VIP looking much more lush, green and well kept than anywhere else on the farm? Or am I loosing my mind?
Did VIP open at 7am last year? I thought it was 8am, but I could be totally wrong about that.
They said 8:00 but I think it was more like 6:30 or 7:00. We saw people with VIP hangers blow down the entry road 45 minutes early and they were all camped and set up by the team we got in which was probably 8:15 or so. There was a row or so ahead of them.
Does anyone know if these are the typical t-shirts they sell at the merchandise tent with all the bands listed on the back or something else?
I doubt anyone knows
Can only speak for 2011, but that year we got the standard festival shirt with the acts on the back. The poster was kind of garbage though. More of a promo poster than an actual nice print you'd want framed.

I think the grass is just less trampled. One of the nice things about VIP is that there is less herd. There is one sneaky spot to catch a day show in the shade, on the VIP hill there is a bar that is in a covered tent. They have bar stools and tables set up in the tent and you can still see the stage. Everytime I've ever rolled through there they've been occupied but if you timed it right they are yours. Sadly, I bet it would be just like listening to a bunch of idiots in any other bar. I'll deal with the sun if it's a band I really care to see. Floppy hat.

2010-12 all basically had the standard festival shirt. The only difference was that it was in a color that wasn't available elsewhere. Every time it was more to my taste but not everyone felt the same way. I always end up buying another poster or something else similar as a token. The posters we get are pretty lame, I haven't framed any.

Thanks for the replies everyone. I figured that the poster was not one of the nice ones they sell at the merch tent, but hoped the t-shirt was one of the nice ones at least. It sounds like that may be the case.
The T-shirts are nice. All the bands listed on the back, the standard Bonnaroo logo of that year on the front. They hold up too. My first year was 2011, and I wear my 2011 and 2012 shirts on the regular still.
Found these online. Here's the 2011 shirts: Men's:
Women's:
2012 shirts: Men's (couldn't find an image of the back, but it's the same as the women's below):
Women's:
The posters are a little lame. Basically, the color scheme for the last 2 years matched the website of that year, and so did the drawings, and really it's just a big list of the band names. We've never framed them (always bought a nicer one for that) but I have the two we got from VIP hanging up in my cubicle at work. They're not terrible, just not a lot of thought or artistic effort put into them.
Took these myself of the ones currently in my cube. 2011 Poster:

Is it difficult (time consuming) to get from the which to what stage vip areas in the evenings? The Lumineers & Mumford & Sons share a common fan base and it looks like the schedule is going to force us to miss some of one of the shows. We'd love any insight into the best way to see as much of both as possible.

There's two ways I can think of to get from the VIP Which stage area to the VIP What stage area. The first is A)through What Stage general admission area, and the other is B)cut back to VIP camping and move along the fence. Basically, A) is the red line below, and B) is the green line below (this is based on last year's map).
Under normal circumstances, using the Red Line will be the fastest way (and there is an entrance to the VIP viewing area from this spot). But, depending on when you head over, you could be part of a mass exodus from the Which Stage to the What Stage. Going from Lumineers to Mumford is not going to be pretty if you wait too long. If there's a huge river of people, you might be better off using the green line, which may be a longer walk, but if you can move at a good speed you'll be better off. I know it worked out for us at least once last year trying this. Far fewer people. If that small area between the What and Which stages fills up with people, it can be VERY slow moving. Especially if it's at all wet, because that small passageway between the two areas is a bit of a valley, and water can be something everyone has to slow down and handle (re: jump over).
So, short answer, it depends. One of the two paths above is your best bet.
In theory, you could cut over from the green line to the red line near the gate, but that will depend on crowds. If it's really crowded, that won't be too much better.

Or just stay inside the wall, and walk along the vendor areas that way you don't need to go through security again (more time wasted). It's actually the route I take.

Thanks for the quick reply. I can't imagine that there won't be a mass movement of people from the Lumineers to Mumford, so your advice is very appreciated. It probably would have made too much sense to keep both acts on the same stage.

Looking at their recent setlists, Lumineers have been playing their biggest hit (Ho Hey) early in their set. So hopefully that clears up the traffic slightly. Some people may head to the What Stage field the moment Ho Hey ends, whereas some may hang around for the whole set.
Last year, I left Foster the People about 30 minutes into their set, knowing I wanted to get a decent spot for Radiohead (didn't do VIP last year). I know a lot of people were still at that set once it ended with Pumped up Kicks, so hopefully this year it won't be as bad on Friday.

Does anyone know if they fill in the VIP section from closest to furthest away? I know in GA getting there early does not guarantee a better spot, but it seems like it might for VIP.

I think we answered this in another thread, but they fill VIP West to East in columns that fill South to North.
If you look at the map above, VIP B is filled first then C & D, and so on. Earlier you get there, the closer you will be to centeroo. Later you get there, the closer you will be to VIP hill at What. Because they fill the columns South to North, you could end up being as far away from anything as someone who gets there 4-5 hours later. We never try to get there for the gate
opening and have always had a good spot, since there are no bad spots in VIP.
