I'm going to have a co-worker take the card home tomorrow and test it out in his machine that has a good power supply. If he gets it to work then we know it's something on my end. If he can't get it to work then maybe the card is just busted and I need to exchange it. Any help/suggestions is appreciated. I'm clueless.
This is really the best start for troubleshooting. 90% sure you have a bad card.
Is it possible for the fan to work on the card but it still wouldn't be able to display video/make my monitor see it's signal?
I'm completely clueless but learning a lot in a little time just from this experience.

Yes. There are multiple components to a graphics card and it could just be one little capacitor that is no good causing the trouble. In which case that is obviously the manufacture's fault when it is still under warranty, so if it doesn't work on your friends machine either, you'll have to send it back to where ever you ordered it from.

Cool. That's reassuring. I got it from Amazon.com and I think they're pretty good about exchanging these DOA type things. The disappointment is not playing the games right now but I'll be happy if it's as simple as "the card doesn't work" and it's not something I'm doing wrong.
AC3 is $17 and change used on Amazon. Is this a deal I should snap up since I like the other ones or is it a trick to unload a disappointing sequel?
Also, I want an open world game. Is Yakuza the best idea for ps3 or are there better choices out there?
That's a good price for AC3. I am a big fan of the AC series. This one wasn't overly great but it wasn't horrible either but worth a playthrough at that price.
As far as open worlds on the ps3 Yakuza is a fun option. Sleeping dogs as well is sort of down that line. Then you have your skyrims, saints row series, borderlands, infamous, and not really a full open world but great ps3 exclusive in Heavy Rain. Also the fallout series with 3 & new vegas. The Yakuza series is definitely on of my favorites though and is a good choice to go with

Haven't played the sequels to Assassin's Creed, but of all of the exclusive open world games I've played on PS3, the Infamous games are by far the best. I did see at Best Buy the other day that you can get the entire collection of GTA IV and the add ons for 15 bucks, so you really can't go wrong there if you want good open world game play.
Edit: and, well, if you haven't played Skyrim there's a no brainer.
As for Fallout, I'd skip New Vegas at first at least, and go straight to Fallout 3 GOTY Edition. It really is a great game. Only thing about Bethesda games... 9/10 times, their games don't run so hot on PS3, so I always get their games on 360 (never have a PC good enough). I've only ever had issues with Fallout and Elder Scroll games on PS3. They are playable for the most part, but the occurrence of hiccups and bugs are much greater than on 360.
Dude's.... BioShock Infinite. Not open world but you are playing this correct?
I have never played a single Bioshock game. Honestly, I am usually well behind on buying games since I think $60 is cray when you can buy them for half that in a few months hence me asking about AC3 when I played the sh*t out of the last three.

Yeah that's not a bad idea. I rarely have time for video games now. I mostly played League of Legends for a while. Then even stopped that, as work intensified. I finally got a lull so decided to get BioShock before i read the ending or my friends ruined it for me.
I've always enjoyed Skyrim and Fallout 3 at open world type things.
Fallout 3 was my first experience with open world games. It took a little getting used to and alot of dying before I got the hang of it....then Skyrim. Ohh yes then Skyrim. I binged on Skyrim for hours upon hours. Character upon character. DLCs, playing as the anti dragonborn, playing as a peasant afraid of a mudcrab. Then it all just stopped as soon as it began. Back to shoot em ups like call of duty and borderlands. I want to dive back into Skyrim I really do but I dont think I have the endurence for it anymore.

You can pick up Bioshock 2 right now at gamestop for 10 dollars in case you are interested in entering the series but without much cost attached.
Been playing the new Tomb Raider. It really is a great game so far.
I've been on the fence about picking it up, I might just do it now. After I finish Gears that is, I just started Coles' testimony. Beautiful game, and really fun.
Just finished Bioshock Infinite, and what a whopper that was. Near the end the combat got a little stale, but that's only a small complaint that didn't take much away for my personal playing experience. Great visuals combined with a gripping narrative cover up the thinness of the game play and ultimately delivers an experience worth paying for, borrowing or stealing.
I've beaten Bioshock Infinite, Tomb Raider and Max Payne 3 recently. All three of these game are excellent. Infinite had one of the best endings I've ever seen for a game. Absolutely love it.

Holy sh*t. I just want to say that I recently upgraded from running my PS3 on an old cathode tube TV through composite cables to running it on a LED HDTV with HDMI cables. It's a whole new world.
I'm in the "don't buy games new, wait and get them used for way cheaper" camp
Same. Gamestop has a rewards perk for used games when you buy a year membership card. Its 10$% off trade ins and 10% off used games, and you can return used games within a week FOR A FULL REFUND. For games more story based I just do this and return a game every week. For me at least, when I buy storyline games/single player games there beaten in a good 4-6 days so this works out perfect as these games typically just rot at the bottom of my game pile until I feel like nostalgically pulling it back out a year later.

Used games is the way to go. I tend to look around Amazon rather than Gamestop since I seem to find better deals that way. Also, the used book store has good buys sometimes.
I don't know whyi couldn't find this thread the other day, but anyone picked up College Football. I've been holding off, even though I'm coming at the bit to grab it.

I have looked at it, and it does look rather nice. I bought Madden 13 a couple months ago after playing NCAA exclusively since '04 or '05, and I came to the realization that, whereas I like watching college football way more than NFL, the opposite is true for video games.
