I can't vouch for how they compare against other games, but I played the hell out of NHL 98/99, Madden 2000, and NASCAR 98 as far as sports games go. I never have gotten a console after the PS1.
I haven't really given a shiz about sports games since NBA Jam and NHL '94 on SNES and NFL Blitz on N64. I have played many since, but they just don't hold my interest for very long.
Holy sh*t. I just want to say that I recently upgraded from running my PS3 on an old cathode tube TV through composite cables to running it on a LED HDTV with HDMI cables. It's a whole new world.
I will never forget that day of upgrading TV from CRT to LCD. Although I went from CRT > 60hz LCD (2009) > 240hz LED 3D (2012) so it pretty much happened again on the second upgrade, but wasn't nearly as significant as leaving the old CRT.
Has anyone played Last of Us yet? I'm thinking about picking it up today
I don't buy PS3 games anymore until the price drops in half, so I'm not getting The Last of Us for a while. All of my friends that have it love it though. And I thoroughly enjoyed the Uncharted series so I know it is great. I check amazon gold box and lightning deals everyday for cheap games. Scored Injustice: Gods Among Us on wii-u for $20 a month ago on there. I bought a 3DS XL last weekend because my wife and I were having trouble sharing the old 3DS. Been playing Fire Emblem Awakening on there for a while and just got Donkey Kong Country Returns in the mail a couple of days ago. 3DS is by far my favorite console right now.
I'm planning on building a new PC early next year so that I can get back into PC gaming. My laptop is like 5 years old now and will not run new games worth a shiz. I guess it was about the time Starcraft II came out is when I realized it's time to upgrade PC. I plan on purchasing a PS4 eventually, but probably not until later next year.
Yes. I retract my statement. Mutant League was the best.
Football or Hockey though? I liked Football. You could fall through holes in the field when playing in outer space. You could dismember an opponent by tackling them hard. My favorite thing was the "Bribe a ref" option that would give you a penalty in your favor.

The new NBA Jam on PSN is pretty fun. Can't recreate that old magic but it's worth a try.

My story was the Xbox 360 has a "TV / HDTV" switch on the cable connected to the TV and I didn't realize until cleaning one day. I flipped the switch and was like "What have I been doing all this time? I could have had THIS!?"
I'm in the "don't buy games new, wait and get them used for way cheaper" camp - even with games I want right away (like Madden or whatever), I'll wait a few weeks, because SOME knucklehead will bring a copy for trade in like 2 days after it drops and I'll save 15 bucks at least. So a couple weeks ago, I went and picked up FIFA 13 (had been playing 12), Metal Gear HD Collection (three PS2-era titles given the HD upgrade for Xbox) and Mass Effect 2. FIFA is awesome as always, and I haven't even gotten to Metal Gear yet (played at least one of these when I had a PS2, so I know what I'm in for), but holy hell ME2 is brilliant. I'm becoming obsessed with this game. I know it came out like 3 years ago, but hell, it cost me 9 bucks. Just so immersive and expansive.
Did you ever play the first Mass Effect? For a good while there, I would have said ME2 was one of my absolute favorite games of all time... been sitting on the third one for far too long, was recently thinking about finally committing to that one.
Haven't been playing many video games at all in the last year or so... however, I did reach back and currently trying to finish Final Fantasy IX, bit by bit. Good god... never thought going back and playing a 12 year old game would be so exhausting. These old PS1 era RPGs were ridiculous.
I forgot about NFL Blitz on N64 and edited my post above. I played the shit out of that game. Fights nearly broke out at my house over NFL Blitz, Mario Kart, and Goldeneye on N64.
Speaking hotly contested sports video games from (really not so far) back in the day... when I got my Dreamcast, I used to take it over to my friends house and we'd play the hell out of NBA 2K1. That was probably my favorite sports game I ever played (honestly haven't played one, since... only a demo for a later NBA 2K game, maybe 2k11).

FFIX = Eternally underrated. How can I make progress in the game when all I want to do is destroy everyone at cards? You don't see RPGs have a great minigame to take your mind away from the real plot anymore. Or maybe I just haven't played them yet...
I actually for once got into the card game in that one, mostly because it became mandatory at a point, but also because... well, it was a fun card game! Really surprised by that because I couldn't get into the FFVIII card game at all.
And just as an aside, I just started the 4th disc the other day... and this is leagues better than VIII was. Haven't played VII since it came out, so I can't really say if it's up to that standard completely surely, but I think IX is at least at that level.
Also, I love the Mutant League Football references. My parents were cleaning a bunch of stuff out of their attic and found a box full of my old Sega Genesis gear, a couple dozen games and the system and stuff. I hooked it up in my living room and have played a handful of Mutant League matches. All I remember was that if you played as the Terminator Trolls, you could win every game as long as you played on the hardest death level because you'd wind up just killing everyone on the other team.
With all the things they bring back for remakes and re-releases I'm pretty shocked there isn't any new Mutant League games. I mean....not a full $60 PS3 or Xbox game but an arcade game for 5 or 10 bucks? Put that on and I'll buy it.
Mutant League was one of my favorites but there are so many people I bring it up to who look at me like I'm crazy.
I rarely play video games despite having a PS3 for a long time now. I recently bought a pack of 4 older Rockstar games for pretty cheap. Just finished La Noire which was pretty good. Starting Red Dead Redemption soon

Red Dead Redemption is another one I bought years ago... and I haven't even cracked 5 hours into it. I know it's supposed to be such a great game, but it got overshadowed by other games I purchased around the same time, and I honestly more or less forgot about it.
And to tie it together with the previous used games discussion, don't forget that EA is also the ones who have their damn $10 secondhand online passes.

LA Noire was a great game. So many times I've thought about going back and playing it again. Just too busy.
Apparently, minimum wage down under is A$16.37 ($14.90 at current exchange rate) while it's still only $7.25 here.
Your source is outdated - it's actually AU$18/hr. And I wouldn't go by the exchange rate since it fluctuates all the time (it's $0.92AUD to the USD now, but it was $1.05 just a month ago). This dates from the Harvester Case in the 1900s, in which the High Court ruled that every worker has the right to a liveable wage. Ever since then, wages have been tied to the cost of living, instead of the never-ending political tug-of-war in the States.
Many things are no more expensive in Australia than in the US, but as a general rule, any form of media (with the exception of DVDs, for some reason) is going to be among the most sticker-shocktastic items. Thankfully Internet piracy is alive and well Down Under!
I've only paid full MSRP for three games over the last ten years: Mass Effect 2 (night of release), Final Fantasy XIII (night of release), and Dark Souls (a few days after release).
It's fucking on. Mass Effect Trilogy begins tonight. Bring on your geth, your krogans, and whatever else I can't remember is out there. Giant bug things maybe? Or was that Starship Troopers? I feel like it was both but the gin isn't telling me...
I'm starting from scratch, having only played the first two games I want to get some tasty build up and a refresher on what all happens for the finale. I'm really interested to see how much really carries over from the first to the third installment. I know one big decision I've already made, but I won't spoil it for anyone who hasn't played yet. If you haven't played yet, GET ON IT!
Last time I let Kaiden die in the first game instead of Ashley. The shoe will be on the other foot this time, which I guess means I need to focus more on my more brutish allies. Let the games begin motherfuckers!
