I have to be honest: I’m starting to wonder if Elden Ring isn’t for me. I’m only level 20 and working my way through the Weeping Peninsula, so it’s early, but holy fuck, am I frustrated. I haven’t even won a single mini boss battle, let alone made any effort at Margit.
I realize this is the point of a Souls game, and everybody else seems to love it, so it’s most likely just that I suck and don’t have the time or wherewithal to really get good enough. I’m just starting to weigh the amount of time I’m willing to spend not getting anywhere before I’m no longer actually having fun.
Do you want to dance while also thinking about all the ways you've failed as a human?

TL;DR - I suck at Elden Ring so very bad.
Thanks for listening.

So when I started playing Dark Souls I had all sorts of difficulty trying to play it strait forward and fight my way through everything. Here's one thing to keep in mind. You can run past just about anything in the game.... Within reason. So with that in mind. It's time to level up and work on getting you some items to increase your flasks. Look at the interactive map , select just " flask upgrades" and just ride your damn horse to some of the golden seeds, etc. Most of the ones in the bottom two areas are just sitting at the little golden trees (but do click the icons on the map for more info so you don't waste time). You can even take a narrow path up to the lake region and get some of those if you want.
I wouldn't recommed doing it too much because it takes the fun out of the game but do a little farming to get over this hump and get into a grove. It can save you time and grief in the long run. Cause you aren't just bashing your head against the wall and losing all your ruins. So sometimes it's worth putting a little time into just running up your numbers. I suggest playing normally and anytime you are 60/70% to the next level... go to a place near a Site of Grace that has some high reward enemies and just rack up ruins. rest/repeat.
So on the map, you see that red peninsula in northern Caelid? The site of Grace called Farum Greatbridge. People seem to think that's one of the best farming locations in the game. Cause the enemies are very hard but they are super easy to sneak up on and backstab. Then just fucking go ape on them. Once you get that site of grace this is a great place to top off and level up. When I find it I'll put a link on where to go to get a shortcut up there.
So when you arrive there's a massive monster on the stairs. Sneak into the building and activate that site of grace. Then just sneak to the side of the balcony. Jump down and get on the horse. Ride strait down the road. The site of grace is on the left once you get near the bridge. Don't worry that dragon won't kill you. lol

This was excellent advice. Thank you. I realized I haven't really been taking advantage of the upgrade system for anything, which was dumb - I was carrying around smithing stones and golden seeds and not doing anything with them because the game doesn't really tell you what to do with them the way previous RPGs I've played do. I did some tweaking and was actually able to take down Patches in Murkwater Cave, which I know is basic AF, but was kind of my first real victory in this game over anything other than a mob (not counting the Demihuman Queen, who I took down on the cheap by just sniping her and then running away and hiding over and over again).
So. Not giving up yet. Question: Anyone else here play Confessor and have a build they love? I've found a couple online, but one is more Dex-heavy and one is more Faith-heavy, and I wasn't sure which made more sense. I typically like playing as a hybrid melee/caster - like a battlemage in D&D - so that's kind of what I'm going for.

Yeah, I still have t really messed with the ashes of war stuff and at this point I have like 30 of them. I use that magic phalanx on my rapier and that’s about all. Silly, it would makes things easier if I put time into it. Haha
I’m playing that kind of build as well. Mostly light swords, bows and casting. Never was much of a strait melee player in RPGs. I like sniping too much. I’m playing as a wretch. Started in rags with just a club.
Ohh, so besides the golden seeds and smithing stones remember to do the mini quests to upgrade your spirit ashes. Those are super helpful against bosses. There’s a girl near the first main castle named Roderika. You just need to have a dialogue with her and she’ll move to the stronghold. You’ll find a golden seed at her first location after she leaves. There’s another at a tree near there too. So it’s worth going ahead and getting starting although she doesn’t help upgrade things until after you beat Godrick.

One thing I would like to add… the best way to level up is to help others. If you put your sign down in front of boss fogs, you can master the art of battling a boss before you tackle him/her yourself (either solo or with help). Also, the best way to farm for me, is helping others. If you happen to die, you don’t lost ruins. Plus it helps you explore the area before taking it on with your character.
I also love kukri and poison darts… and even knives. Hit one enemy to lure him away from the others, kill him, and then repeat. If you get ganged up, just get on your horse and distance yourself from them and repeat.
Finding the right talismans to equip is important, too, when fighting bosses.
For those of you with a Series X, is there a recommended strategy for trying to find one? Some retailers more likely than others? I'm pretty settled on the idea of wanting one and getting it if found, but no idea the correct method of hunting one down. The guys at my GameStop say they never have them.

Check targets site. They're literally on the shelves at almost every target in my area 77539 right now.

Check the aforementioned Target and Best Buy. You're in South Korea, right? No idea how it works there, but try also giving @wario64 a follow on Twitter and turn notifications on. He posts whenever consoles restock.

I just wanted to come back in here and say that rune farming changed my life. It feels a bit cheap to just blow through levels by going to Caelid and rinse-repeat on taking out vulgar militia, but fuck it - this game is hard enough that I don’t care

I’m level 220 and close to done. Got killed by a fucking sneaky rat in a tunnel the other night. Game is so hard that farming is playing. Haha

anybody here played No Mans Sky? all i really knew about it until recently was it had a disastrous launch in 2016. in the years since then i've heard tidbits of people saying actually it's good now, decided to give it a shot since i'm once again burned out on Skyrim. only been playing a couple of weeks but wow this game is delightful. Kind of crazy that the devs have stuck it out this long and improved the game so much.
it's a space exploration game with a bunch of randomly generated worlds. so cool going to new worlds and seeing all the new animals and plants and what have you. you gather or buy resources and earn various forms of currency to upgrade your exosuit, your ship, your multitool. there is a multiplayer element if you like that but i've only done solo stuff. super relaxing flying around space, buying new starships, avoiding sentinels, gathering resources.

I've looked at it. A lot. But sounds like something too dangerous for me to try to get in to.

there is definitely a danger. i'm in that phase where i'm thinking about it all the time. when i'm at work, when i'm falling asleep, etc.
i am curious to see if that game has staying power for me. i'm fairly monogamous when it comes to games. i find one game that i love and play the shit out of it for years. since time is an issue i'm hesitant to get into games that require a steep learning curve or for me to have wiki open on another screen at all times. while NMS has a lot going on and they don't clearly explain everything, and i have no doubt that i'm doing things in the game that aren't 100% efficient, i really don't care, and i think that's the magic: i can just hop into the game and play around and i'm not concerned about maxing all my shit out or being wasteful.
after playing for a bit i've googled a few "tips and tricks for new players 2022" type of things, but really i'm just happy bouncing around worlds and digging up old technology and mining copper and refining it into chromatic metal and scanning new creatures and trying to learn the gek language.
there is certainly a way to min/max everything or cheese the economy (no microtransactions which is nice) but i don't feel compelled to do any of that.
good community too, the subreddit is very helpful and nice.

fack, you had me at mining ore.
I'll probably give valheim a rest and check it out this weekend. Also saw from Apple's thing yesterday that it's coming to iPad. And I just recently got one of the new pros...

3post1jack1 if you have game pass you gotta give Hardspace Shipbreaker a try, I can't put it down. You float around in first person methodically cutting spaceships into pieces and putting them in their respective bins, simultaneously relaxing and intense

Just started replaying Horizon Zero Dawn, forgot how good that game was. Horizon Forbidden West looks incredible but I'm only on PC and it took them 3 years to port the last game

Looking for some advice between the PS5 or the Xbox Series X....I really want to upgrade due to my favorite titles coming out with new games over the new few years (Skate., NCAA Football, GTA). I currently have a PS4 but want to know everyone's opinion on which one to go with.
