Wow did we have the same mom? I think my first M rated game was Metal Gear Solid 3 which was probably only a month or two before RE4 came out. My mom totally lost it when I sneakily bought my first explicit CD which I think was Up The Bracket by The Libertines.
Are 5 and 6 worth revisiting? I lost interest after playing the demo for 5 and just continued to replay 4 over and over. The RE2 and 3 remakes have really gotten me back into the franchise in a big way, Capcom is definitely up there in the best developers/publishers of all time list.
Brother...?
But for real, that's hilarious xD To be honest, it made me much more sensitive to gore/blood at an older age. Though now I just laugh when there's excessive blood and gore, decapitations, etc., so it worked out.
Everyone swears 5's co-op mode is worth a play; I only played by myself when it released in 2009. I'd say check it out and see what you think. I avoided 6, but may even give it a shot one day.
RE2 and RE3 remakes are amazing, of course. 3 received some slack, but I still enjoyed it. With all the modern Resident Evil success, the titanic Monster Hunter, and Street Fighter's hopeful revitalization with VI, Capcom has entered a lovely renaissance.
i just couldn’t get into resident evil 1(remake pc) but im gonna try again to do 1-3 before this remake comes out, and do the rest of the series after. also gonna do silent hill 1 before the 2 remake comes out. Gotta put my PS5 to use. almost done with Live a Live, in the middle of the Last of Us Remake, and starting Ghost of Tsushima after
I recently played RE 1 remake for the first time. The fixed camera put me off for the longest time, but I quickly got used to it and found it eerily effective in ramping up the horror and tension. The game feels dated compared to the more modern RE 2 and 3 remakes, but the presentation itself holds up incredibly well for a remaster of a 20-year remake (awkward Jill boob jiggle physics aside). I did use a guide to help me whenever I got stuck; I don't know how I played PS1-era games back in the day and figured any of these puzzles out.
Haha I was the opposite with gore/blood, always went for the headshot in RE4 to watch those heads explode. Excessive gore/blood in movies is not really my thing but I'm very into it for video games for whatever reason.
Zach, felt the same way about the RE1 remake. I'll need to revisit at some point before RE4 comes out. How do you like Live A Live? I tried the demo and thought it was a little meh but mostly because the voice acting was somewhat irritating.
Live a Live is honestly one of the best JRPGS ive ever played. protip is to either turn off voice acting or use Japanese voice acting instead. I’m such a sucker for unique settings im JRPGs and i really enjoyed the story. I’d recommend going in blind if you can. The turn based grid system is executed super well.

Good call on using the Japanese VA, gonna give it another shot after finishing up SMTV

Not a chance that happens and Kojima has anything to do with them. I could see Konami remastering them and knocking his name off them though.
Feel like there's always rumors about a Snake Eater remake, but it would be weird with Kojima. I'm weak and would absolutely buy it but yeah a nice remaster would be enough for me.
Konami really needs to make at least the first three MGS games available on modern consoles.
agreed, also MGS4 still is one of the best looking games of that gen
for sure its a very underrated game overall. A lot of people hate the batshit crazy story but I'm all for it especially compared to MGSV's lack of story.
i was hardcore into NMS on PC for a few months. had a lot of fun with it, but the prevailing thought about the game is true: it's incomprehensibly massive but ultimately quite shallow. it's beautiful to look at and certainly sparked a sense of wonder for a few hundred hours of gameplay, but after I got all the ships i wanted, explored all the various world types, got my freighter decked out, and unlocked all the upgrades, i became less interested in playing. there are literally billions of worlds to explore, but unfortunately there isn't an incredible amount of variety between those worlds. some people get really into base building, and i built quite a few bases, but then i don't really have a reason to return to those bases other than purely to admire them.
having said that Hello Games is great and is consistently putting out new content, I imagine I'll continue to hop back in from time to time. it's absolutely worth playing, and some people have managed to get thousands of hours of enjoyment out of it.

i finally hunkered down this past weekend and got into RDR2. absolutely loving it. i'm a big GTA fan, and i think my past attempts to play RDR2 were foiled by thinking "it's GTA but horses". and yeah it kind of is, but i think it's a game intended to be taken at a much slower pace than GTA. the story and the characters are rich and there are a hundred little things to do. in GTA i'm driving fast cars and ramping off shit and running over pedestrians, in RDR2 i'm trotting slowly through beautiful natural settings, having a bowl of stew or a cup of coffee at camp, cooking wild game over a fire by myself in the middle of nowhere. and occasionally some people try to kill me and i get in a shoot out. it's lovely.
it's also quite funny. i had a random encounter where a guy was trying to fix the shoe on his horse. he was struggling so i hopped off my horse to try to help him, as i approached the horse kicked the shit out of the guy and killed him. sitting at my computer i say "shit", and a second later arthur morgan also said "shit".

It's a slower paced game for sure. But if you dig that and can get into it then it's so satisfying to play. I paused on my second playthrough but want to get back. I was addicted to online for a while but they kind of killed most interest in that lately.
But the main game is so damn good. It truly feels like living in a separate world at times with all the random encounters and side missions and other evolving elements. Plus just roleplaying a bit and living like it's not just a game... where you hunt for food and set up camp in the wild when too far away from base camp. Stuff like that. It's way different from GTA but satisfying in its own way
Speaking of late to the gaming game. I’ve been playing Ghosts of Tsushima and it is a lot of fun. Usually don’t like platforming in games like that but every time I have to get to the top of a shrine or scale a mountain it’s a lot more fun than it should be

I really need to revisit at some point. Got pretty much all the way to the last few missions during lockdown and just lost interest. Combat became too repetitive but I might have just been frustrating myself by playing on a harder difficulty.

I've got like 5 games in my backlog that I own but haven't started at all yet and this is one of them. Mostly would get them when great deals or combo things like buy 2 get 1 free but I am so far behind on things. Should start that soon (I say...knowing that I just restarted Last of Us 1 last night to try and get through this game and the sequel before the show debuts).

gotta get good at parrying, and use those stances!
You all are really selling me on RDR2 and the ultimate edition is on sale on PSN for $35. love a slow paced game

for sure, I could wreck common enemies (most of the time) but parrying the bosses was such a pain in the ass. Lowered the difficulty from Hard to medium for most of the boss fights tbh.

I just finished the second section of the game and I could def bump the difficulty up a little. It is a bit repetitive but I’ve enjoyed it. Def filling a void left from a great run of Returnal, Elden Ring and Demon Souls.

the first is legitimately a perfect video game imo, cannot wait for the new one
