Alright, back to this....
"AJ: “It's gonna be as diverse as the first announce. There’s gonna be more indie acts, more rock acts, couple more hip-hop acts, more female soul acts and some more dubstep stuff as well. It'll be another diverse group of artists, probably 10-15 additional acts."
indie - Honestly, I wouldn't classify any of this as indie, and I don't think fans of these artists would, either.
rock - Yeah, Rival Sons seems about as straight-up "rock" as it gets. Other hyphenate-rock bands in there, too.
hip-hop - Nothing.
female soul acts - I guess this could be stretched to mean Potter? Carllile would be a bigger stretch.
dubstep - Big Gigantic
Maybe I'm just blindly optimistic, but I'm still hopeful we'll get some hip-hop, a couple more indie rock leaning acts, and Janelle Monae. Because today's announcement is much more "this type of festival" heavy than the initial one was.

They didn't say it was the final lineup, so I'm sure there's more to come. Definitely late night additions will be announced. I actually thought the lineup diversity was missing the type of bands that were added (blue grass / reggae), so it was pretty perfect for me. I could use something a little heavier getting added.

Im with ya. I am happy with the additions just hping we get another round.

If I remember correctly, last year Robert Randolph and a couple others were added about three weeks before the fest, so it wouldn't be crazy to get a few more decent additions before it's over
in that case i don't see any reason to get upset. i don't think we've seen the end of the lineup
i'll be interested to see which hip hop act they pick up, if any
Oh, I'm not upset. I was just picking apart the announcement based on what AJ said in that earlier interview. I actually see it as a good thing that the additions didn't align 100% with what was promised in that interview because it probably means we have more acts coming. It's just bonus at this point, though - I was more than satisfied with the initial lineup and bought passes on the strength of that.

if anybody is upset, they're stupid! i agree that the interview suggested a bit more than the additions provided.... but my gut says this IS the final lineup. and i am more than happy with that.

I'm happy with the lineup as is, but my gut and brain tell me this isn't the final lineup.
Thinkn about going to this. FOR THOSES WHO HAVE BEEN. what time does the music stop and how was the scheduling as far as conflicts are concerned
The music never stops.
....
Sorry.
The fest ends at 11. Keller late night didn't start till really late and it went till around 3 or so? Maybe 4? Don't really remember.
The Roots and Preservation Hall were my only conflict last year. You can check out the schedule by going to the Hangout facebook page and scrolling back through the pictures.
I'm making my first trip to the festival this summer. Figured it would be better to keep my money in state. I am beyond excited to see Paul Simon on the beach.
How were the crowds last year? Were they your typical festival crowds?
Post by problem dog on Mar 17, 2011 17:24:15 GMT -5
Yeah, crowds were light, so it's hard to really tell what it will be like this year. I think the lineup last year skewed toward an older crowd, too, combined with the incentive for older groups that they could get a nearby condo or house and not have to camp.
I'm lucky enough to have tickets to both Hangout and Bonnaroo. Which means potential double doses of My Moring Jacket, The Black Keys, Primus, Portugal. The Man, Bassnectar,WSP, and more.
Any acts the Hangout Fest has that Bonnaroo doesnt that are worth seeing? ie. cee lo, matisyahoo?

There are so many bands I like on this lineup, I'm actually frightened by what the schedule might do to me. I'm safe for the big ones, but what if they throw Cee Lo at the same time as Umprhey's? How do I, as a guitar player, justify sacrificing UM time for some genuine Motown funk goodness? The wife and I may well have to split, each regretting not seeing what the other is seeing.
And that would be what video recordings are for! ;D
Yes this year has potential for more conflicts than last but the orgainizer is smart enough to not make TOO many "like" acts conflict. He's a pretty saavy guy and he hires the best to do what he isn't an expert in.....it will be well worth it. A well fun fest with a lot of amenities you don't find elsewhere for this price range and OMG! What a location! I thought Grant Park was awesome for Lolly (even though the crowds sucked!) this is the best of all worlds...totally top of the line surroundings with great bands AND all the amenities you could ask for!

I'm worried about having a Cee-Lo conflict, too. Not really sure why. I guess it's because he's kind of a wildcard in this lineup, and I could conceivably see him scheduled against just about anybody.
