there's not that much more music. if i had seen all the sets i planned on i would have seen about as much as i do at roo. it doesn't matter if there are 130 bands or 60, you can only see so much.
I find that hard to believe with an extra day as well as latenights.
there were bands on thur. and there are late nights, even though we didn't go to any. we skipped a few shows during the day and didn't do late nights. if not for that i would have seen as much as i do at roo.
-When I Hear My Name -Dead Leaves and the Dirty Ground -Blue Orchid -Passive Manipulation -Red Rain -Death Letter -My Doorbell -Hotel Yorba -Same Boy You've Always Known -Lovesick -Little Ghost -We're Going to Be Friends -The Hardest Button to Button -Black Math -The Nurse -I Just Don't Know What to Do With Myself
Encore: -Ball and Biscuit -Seven Nation Army -Screwdriver
So... Paul Simon was, as expected, amazing. Loved every second. Hopefully I gave you a shot fo vodka and kool-aid. Man that was a blast and I lucked up on my wristband about 1 o'clock Saturday for just a bill. Got in in time to see Cee-Lo have the Foo Fighters fill in for him. Amazing set. Good cover by the promoter.
And then Cee Lo coming out to finish Darling Nicky? Yes. Worth his lateness. What a cool venue. Did see people being escorted out and during the fest I kept up with this site and other reports. Had a buddy lose his at the gate but thantk GOODNESS no po po there that day.
Loved the trip a lot. Especially heading to my condo to sleep in the AC and have a shower. That roo lineup gets sicker and sicker everytime I inspect it.
Anyway- hope most of you enjoyed it like I did. Weird to have to be so careful about stuff but I'm from Alabama and I didn't imagine it any other way. Maybe that will loosen up. I know most of the locals (except this rib guy from above) were happy we were there!
In Orange Beach Sunday, the Publix employees were reporting most ATM machines in town were out of money and they were going to start capping cash back.
just counted, could have seen 34 full sets at hangout if we went all day and late night.
That is neglecting the comfort factor though. I will go see more shows in greater comfort than I will be able to in a harsh environment.
yea we only saw like half that much. but i'm just saying if you wanted to run your self into the ground like you do at roo, you could easily. it was no easy task to go from one end of the beach to the other. so if you want the struggle, it's totally there. there is plenty of music is the main point.

We mainly went to shows, the only sets I missed were Primus and the Black Keys and I could hear both of them. During Primus the kids were frying so we were in the shade tent, and we skipped the Black Keys to get up close for Paul. Other than that we were in by 12:30 everyday and left after the headliners, my kids are troopers for sure.

we skipped a couple to get better spots for other shows and also to avoid going to the opposite end of the beach so many times. also skipped a few by spending time at the condo/beach/pool early in the day.

We were at the campgrounds and given the shuttle situation we just stayed in. We wanted to see MMW and Keller, so we were just in both days early. Also though we had a giant golf umbrella I had brought it could shade us all on the sand pretty well sitting sown. My son also dug a hole until he hit water at Primus about 5 or 6 feet down. Later we saw some dude getting buried vertically in it, he may well still be there.
Edit
I am going back next year if anyone wants to get a kids friendly condo together let me know.

^^^ I was mistaken earlier. Waka is capped around 23,000 tickets on around 400 acres (i could be wrong it was the only estimate i could find).....Hangout was capped at 35,000 on around 15 acres ( again could be wrong......only estimate i could find via google). Bonnaroo is on 530 acres........the numbers don't lie
EDIT*** I'm a math nerd and did the numbers.....thats around 2,333 people per acre at hangout.....57.5 per acre at waka.....and about 151 per acre at Bonnaroo (with an attendance of 80,000)
The numbers actually do lie when you're comparing apples to oranges. Both of those festivals offer camping, so they obviously have way more square footage per attendee. I'm not saying that Waka and Roo don't have more space near the stages, but your attendees per square foot numbers are making it out to be way more extreme than it actually is.

okay....found an estimate suggesting centeroo is about 100 acres so with 80,000 people that is about 800 per acre......that is still not even half as crowded as the numbers for hangout.......I'm not trying to be negative just stating my opinion based on my experience. I still feel like it is much easier to navigate the crowd at Roo than it was at Hangout.
One thing I did experience differently than a lot of folks however is I didn't have any trouble with the shuttles. I was 1.9 miles away and never had to wait longer than 2-3 minutes for a shuttle. I was on the Red Route maybe that had something to do with it.

Just got back today. Gotta say I thoroughly enjoyed the festival. Friday was a little crazy with the shuttle situation, but we figured it out sat and sun. Anyone else get a ride from the Michael Jackson bus? Dance party shuttle ftw. All the shows we saw were top notch. TBK were fairly disappointing compared to Broo last year. They came out late and finished early on top of being waaaay too packed. Trombone Shorty/Primus were my fav shows of the weekend, but MMJ was pretty epic.
Definitely heavy police presence, but never saw anyone being harassed by them. I still think they oversold this festival and agree that the crowd was worse than bonnaroo, especially around the boom boom tent while the djs were doing their thing. Never made it to the tent til late nights but it seemed like the PL/Bassnectar day sets were wild.
I would definitely go back next year if the line up is solid. A few logistical errors need to be corrected (sound bleed, more walking area between stages), but overall it was a great experience. Now to take care of this fucking sunburn...

BTW, went to Souvenir City to pick up some sweet airbrushed t-shirts with the lady, and I noticed that they were selling CarpeDM Sanuks... Didn't expect to see that, moved just the same.
Good to know about the Carpe DMs.....I LOVE mine and want to get a pair for my BFF but....seems they aren't making them anymore and very few places have them...especially in the women's sizes. Let me know if you guys find any. All I can find online is like size 9-11 for women......
You can still book beachfront balcony condos at Island Winds East....its the building directly behind the mainstage..... you gotta put down over 300$ in advance, but believe me, it is TOTALLY WORTH IT. You watch mainstage shows from your balcony if you want (especially in the daytime), no dealing with shuttles, you can dip off quickly back to the condo for drinking or whatever your heart desires. www.brett-robinson.com/rental_iw.html
Anyone know of any good attorneys in the gulf shores area? got searched at the gate sunday and arrested for a freaking pipe! Regardless, great times friday and saturday
