Since the Verve Pipe was listed for both Saturday and Sunday on Pollstar, I figured that meant they would be playing one day on the kids stage and the other on a main stage. Instead they are just playing two days on the kids stage. I didn't really have any interest in seeing them, but that still kind of makes me feel bad for them.

That's evidently their thing. I promise you that they're OK with maintaining a semblance of relevance all these years later.
I'm pretty pissed about this. Bassnectar and Pretty Lights are on the lineup for the festival that I bought a ticket to, and now they're asking another $25 AN ACT for me to see artists that are already on the original billing that I paid for?

I'll probably skip out.
Bassnectar and Pretty Lights will both be playing 2 sets: one during the regular festival hours for no additional charge, and then one separately ticketed late night performance. You're still getting the lineup you paid for, you're just not getting the late night performances.
I'm not totally happy with the late night situation, but it's not accurate to say that the promoters have been deceptive. I guess this was the best the could do with the options available to them.

yes I think you are confused....these are additional sets in intimate venues. You can still see them for free

Awesome. I'll probably get a ticket for pretty lights then.

My understanding is that the late night sets are just DJ sets. I heard that from a buddy though, and haven't tried to verify that anywhere. I'm skipping them either way.
yeah to each their own, but i dont care to much for dj sets myself. i understand alot of people do though.
i just wish they had a more diverse late night lineup, like their overall lineup. i understand dj sets are perfect for late night, BUT, so would be karl d, mmw, galactic, warren etc. hell let me watch grace shake her ass around till 3, just give me choice to see something other than JUST djs.
me and the lady just dicked around on the beach till the wee hrs last year. hoping something cool pops up sat at a local bar. other wise that is our DRUNK night. not the biggest foo fans

Foo Fighters will be playing the rock show that evening. I personally wouldn't miss it for the world. Hell, I don't even like Panic that much, but I wouldn't miss that one. I'd make the commitment to staying for the first couple of Foo Fighter songs. I find that most people don't really know how good they are.
I'm with you on the late nights... I thought the UM late night was a sure thing. We got Tony Clifton tickets just to see what madness might ensue. Other than that, it's a cooler on the beach with friends (or better yet, just the wife).

Definitely give them a chance. I'm not a Foo Fighters fan, but I'm actually glad they're a headliner. I saw them headline an outdoor festival seven years ago and it was a blast - the setlist was heavy on the big singles, and Grohl's a big enough personality to engage a large crowd.
Hi!! We booked a space at gulf state park for tent camping. Will anyone that has experience with this park please inform me of what the spaces are like.... cement, sand, grass? I'm trying to decide if I will need to bring the EZup canopy;) Are campfires allowed? Any info would be greatly appreciated. THank u!!!

The pictures I've seen look to be on grass with almost no noticeable shade. I'd bring that pop-up tent. I don't know about camp fires.
dont worry, we will check out the foos. she will make sure of it. we both have very eclectic music tastes. so between us we get a lot covered. plus thats the best thing about festivals. how many times have ya walked by a stage with someone you never heard of, stopped and became fans of something new. love it it like a cool college station (NKU). i remember seeing umphree's at a camground near deercreek for phish way back. funny how we can find good jams sometimes

There used to be tons of trees at the campground, but they all got wiped out by Hurricane Ivan 7-8 years back. Place looks totally different now.

Here's the part of the article regarding the sound problems:
"The council is also weighing concerns about noise from the Hangout, facing a series of complaints from residents who said they can hear music playing at the Hangout until 2 a.m. Mayor Robert Craft said officials have asked Delmore to determine how to monitor the level of noise and establish a timeframe for when it could be heard. “We hope to have a resolution that will be both acceptable to the residents and the business community,” Delmore said. Hangout owner Shaul Zislin said Tuesday that he hoped the issue could be resolved, and added that bands play until 10 p.m. on the establishment’s main stage, then move to a smaller stage and play until 2 a.m., Zislin said. “We feel very strongly that we’re in the entertainment district and more liberal guidelines should be allowed in our area,” Zislin said. “It’s so important for a resort area to provide content for the visitors. Not every vacationer wants to go to sleep. It’s their vacation time.” Craft said the council could be looking at a plan for a noise ordinance by next week. In other business, the council denied a proposal to allow about 40 homes along Little Lagoon to be converted to short-term rental units. The ordinance would have allowed for property owners between West Brigadoon Trail and Middle Brigadoon Trail along the waterfront to lease their properties for less than 180 days."
The first part of the article is about a new city ordinance that has banned the recreational use of nitrous oxide. So for all you fans of dissociatives, better watch out.

I live out of the U.S. these days, but I'm originally from Gulf Shores. It's a shame, but this is only a continuation of a very long struggle between the entertainment district of Gulf Shores and the snowbirds that come down to Gulf Shores during the winter and early spring. I was really surprised when Hangout was actually approved. It's great for the city in every way, but unfortunately there is a part of the city that likes to think that Gulf Shores exists only for themselves as a "retirement and family community". I used to work as a bartender around town and it was always a constant struggle with the city council and sound ordinances to get good live music. It's a perfect town for it, but there is a real push in the city to keep it from becoming "another Destin or Panama City". At the end of the day, it looks like we might not be seeing any late nights going later than 2.
