Swans are playing almost opposite of Ultramagnetic MCs, which is unfortunate for me. I haven't seen Kool Keith since the Dr. Octagon days and have never seen Ultramagnetic where as Swans I've seen (a few times, actually). I've heard nothing but great things about the recent shows. I'm hoping more than a few people will be at Swans but I suspect people are gonna be jockeying for spots for Portishead.
Shellac on the other hand ....... count me in. My Friday looks like Chavez>Shellac>Bonnie "Prince" Billy. My 23 year old self would be proud.
Before Ultramagnetic started there was NOBODY in there. I battled with my claustrophobia enough before Portishead to get in the second row.
It really was amazing. Not just their performance but the festival in general. I loved the lay out how easy it was and how the bands mingled. You could get as close as you wanted for shows if you were early enough. Love it.
I'm even more depressed now about missing the other 2 days .. but there is next year.

One of the best weekends I've had at a festival, due to the fest itself and the people I was with. Asbury Park was perfect for this festival (minus the whole Asbury lanes debacle). My weekend consisted of everything from holding Beth's hand and telling her thank you to attending a drag show. Oh man.

Hey thisismyname, were you the guy I talked to about "fart" taped on the keyboard the second night? Whoever it was was super into the show so I figured it could have been you.
I'm curious, what were your guys favorite shows (top 5 maybe)? I've been so broke this year and I wound up having to sell my Sunday pass to my buddy, still so upset about it. Asbury Park is like 15 minutes from my house and the lineup was just so good. Any dissapointments? Was it well organized/crowded or anything like that? NoD I was about to msg you on Sunday and see if you wanted to meet up at the Wonderbar or something and grab a drink after I got out of work but I wound up going to a bonfire party..
Oh and did anyone catch Thee Silver Mt. Zion? One of the reasons I'm most upset I missed it.

Ha. Yes and no. I was the guy that the guy talking about "fart" was speaking to. So I was second row, the guy that was super into it and hugged beth was my friend in the front row. Where were you?
Wait, just reread your original post. I think you are referring to me. Soooo you were standing right beside me, correct?

I thought the festival was one of the most well run events I've ever been to. The whole thing was just really enjoyable and made me rethink if the big festivals are really worth all the trouble.
Top 5 1. Portishead (Both Nights) 2. Colin Stetson 3. Bonnie 'Prince' Billy 4. Jeff Mangum 5. The Horrors
Also TSMZ sounded great, but I only could stay for about 30 minutes. I had to leave for a Portishead spot. The theater they played in, the same one that Earth, Colin Stetson, Swans, Mangum played at, had the best sound I've ever heard at a festival.
Looking back I don't think I saw enough of the bands. Of what I saw Portishead topped out. Pop Group/Marc Ribot/Silver Qluster all come in a close second.
I'm gonna be back next year. I'm ashamed I have missed these for so long now. Fingers crossed for Spiritualized next year.
