This being my first year and not knowing exactly the logistics of the stages and such, is it at all possible for me to catch a few songs of Buffalo Springfield's set and still get a great spot for Eminem? Or do I have to choose between seeing some of BS and getting a great spot for Eminem?

If you walk all the way to the right of that picture, I've found that it's easier to get closer to the front. If you leave BS at around 10:15, you should be able to work your way pretty close, to the stage.

What do you all think the pit situation will be like... How early would i need to lineup to actually get in?
I was hoping that most people will try to see buffalo springfield, which I really have no interest in seeing. I was planning to see an hr of mumford, then maybe get in the pit line for the black keys, maybe I get in maybe not(probably not), if not I will go watch maybe half the keys show then get back in the pit line for EM.

im actually pretty curious about what the crowd for eminem will be like.
i think he will have a pretty damn big crowd, but at the same time i dont think people will be camping out for him. i think if u leave halfway through BS you will prob make it into the pit for eminem.
with buffalo springfield playing which directly before him, i think you will see the crowd arriving a little late for eminem.
I feel confident that if you skip Buffalo Springfield you can get into the pit for Em.
Unfortunately that's the price I've been considering paying. My friends won't give a sh!t so I'll be able to walk off once the line is formed, catch a few songs from BS, then head back to my spot for Em.

You'll be fine. I wandered over to the far side of What about 30 mins before KoL, and was surprised to see the line wasn't long, so I got in the pit. It actually made the show a fair bit more enjoyable, and I was able to easily slide out towards the end so I could run over and grab a spot for The Black Keys, without having to hear Use Somebody. Eminem will be more crowded, but a headliner's a headliner, and if I can stumble into the pit for KoL, you won't have to wait all day for Em
^But then again, it was KOL. Eminem is going to be a totally different scene. Thousands of people who grew up loving his music and wouldn't necessarily pay to go to one of his shows finally get to see him. At Roo of all places!

You pretty much described my feelings. I was a huge fan for many years and just kinda stopped listening to him a little while ago but I never got to see him live and would love to. Seeing him at Bonnaroo is like a dream come true because I love Roo and think he'll put on a great show. Can't wait.

As much as it pains me, I'm seriously considering skipping Buffalo Springfield completely to be able to get into the pit for Eminem. Like you guys have said, I grew up with this guy and never thought I'd get a chance to see him live.
I guess my final decision will come down to whether or not Buffalo Springfield announces some tour dates near me before Bonnaroo....

I'm just guessin'. Never tried to get into the What stage pit.
It all depends on the headliner. In 08, there were definitely people in line for Pearl Jam all day long, even Jack Johnson. I'm surprised I was able to survive all that douchiness while waiting in line for B.B. King.

The Black Keys ends at 930. Em doesn't start til 11. I'm not pressed for the pit, but if I can leave TBK early to get in line for Em to get a smidgen closer. I'll do just that.
All this nonsense about skipping Buffalo Springfield. Maybe I'll be closer than I thought I would be since I'm staying for all of The Black Keys.
There's going to be a lot of people at Buffalo Springfield, but I think some people here are overstating it. Even Girl Talk is more popular according to that Zoltaroo thing. For every person on here who is obsessed with Neil Young, there's someone out there who doesn't care about Buffalo Springfield or know who they are. I'd say at least 50% of their crowd will be coming from the Keys, and that's probably a conservative guess. There's gonna be a ton of people camping out for Eminem, too.

You do realize that a very small percentage of attendees actually use the mind reader right? and of that small percent I'm sure the core demographic is much more likely to listen to GT over BS. I would love for you to be right about us overestimating, as I would like as much room as possible at the BS show. But I'm sure i'm not the only person who bought their ticket for the sole purpose of seeing Buffalo Springfield (though there are many other bands I'd love to see), I'm sure it will be the biggest crowd the which stage has ever had.
