There was a whole day of great music saturday, most haters were probably too tired to enjoy, all my friends and b roo neighbors were talking about how awesome it was, his live band was great and the crowd was loud especially when they wanted more, most of you wanted eminem too suck so you could complain about him on the boards, there is plenty of music for everyone and so much other stuff going on, as for the lip synching i got the whole show recorded and i dont see anything suspicious his style takes alot of energy he needs to plug up some holes so it dont sound like hell, amazing show
I agree. I've seen T.I. , Drake and Kid Cudi live, they were good but eminem's show blows them out of the water. All rap artist use some type of backing track. His show is no different but he did actually remove the backing from some of his songs. I was close enough to see his face and he was rapping for sure with all of the songs. the only time i saw him lip sync for sure was on the bridge to "not afraid" and i'm fine with that because he's not a singer. Awesome show. one of the best of the weekend.
1.) No, not every rapper uses a backing track and some use it sparingly.
2.) Eminem had that backing track on the entire set. Not just during the hook and chorus portions. Fact.
3.) Okay, because he's not a singer, lip syncing is cool? I don't know about you but I'm not there to see Eminem's body or have him just yell at me. I need some vocal dexterity to be exercised to show me it is more than a light/skull/ak-47/ego show.
I thought the show was awesome but I've been a big fan since the beginning and have never had a chance to see him. I'm so glad for the chance though because no way would it have been even close to the same experience if I had seen him here. We were also super close on the left side, not too far outside the pit and the energy in the crowd was amazing. I did notice him lip-synching certain parts as well which was sort of a bummer but overall I loved it. That and Arcade Fire were my favorites.

You're wrong. I'm also a believer that backing tracks were only used on the hooks. At one point in a song, he customized the lyrics and said something like "Remember the time at Bonnaroo". If he was using a backing track, then this would not have worked.
I hate to be a downer and contribute to the hate going around but this was the absolute worst show I've ever seen at Roo. Especially for a headliner spot. Don't get me wrong, I had a lot of fun this year at other shows but Eminem was just the complete wrong fit for Bonnaroo. This being my 5th year in a row and living as close as 15 minutes from the festival at one point in my life, I felt like Superfly gave vets a big middle finger with this one.
Lowest moment for me had to be when everyone had their lighters up to what was a very horrible, commercial, and cliche song. And come on, telling people to say "Fuck You Mom"? Thats retarded.
Aside from the music, which I actually do like some of his songs, the video screen was only beneficial for his intro. Who wants to see Windows Media Player backgrounds and unsynced music videos?
Finally, I heard from a buddy of mine just about the moment Dr. Dre had set foot in Tullahoma Airport. To hear this was easily the most exciting leading up to Bonnaroo. Why the hell would you show up to a major festival and not do something out of the ordinary with one of the most respected names in Hip Hop? Obviously this is more of a let down than anything but come on. Dre could have easily shown up for 2 or 3 songs and created a very special moment that not everyone would get to see.
I hope for the future of Bonnaroo that they do not book people like him or Lil Wayne, or Wiz Khalifa again. Although I could see them booking Drake the direction they have been going.
I love this festival, but this show along with a few others will possibly give me the motivation to look for something else in the future.

Many, many people had lots of fun at all of those shows so I think we'll be seeing acts like them again.

But I did get Royce da 5'9" as a guest.....that made me so happy. I think I was the only person who yelled out "YES!" when they announced him.
Hah, nooo you weren't. When Royce came out you would have thought I was his brother. I screamed out a big 'ol "QUACK YEAH!!!!!!" as 100 people surrounding me stared at me like I was a leper.

Bring on the Ludacris late night set!
I would be very interested in this actually. I'm sure there would be something more valuable to me conflicting with it but Ludacris would be a really fun show.

When Royce came on I was screamin' like a banshee! I wasn't expectin' that.
But overall I think Eminem was one of the weaker headliners I've seen at 'Roo. Not as bad as The Police though. Eminem just left me wantin' more. More older tunes, more full songs, and a better stage set-up. The videos were okay in the beginnin' but once I noticed they were on repeat and all I was unimpressed.

All i know is i was there to enjoy, sounds like a lot of you were there to critique? Bonnaroo is awesome and whoever decides to stop going because of rap acts, GOOD!! There are lots of awesome people who will take your place, there is nothing worse then trying to enjoy the show, when the a hole next to you is screaming eminem sucks the whole time, fortunately he got a go home chant by everyone around him, and he walked away with his head down! Anyone catch that it was by the square green fence in the middle, just left and front to a beer tent

Eminem was good. Not great, not terrible, good. I probably wouldn't have noticed the lip syncing for a while if my friend hadn't pointed it out to me early on. With that in mind, it seemed to us that newer songs relied heavily on lip syncing while his older material had more of him rapping. Even when he wasn't rapping, you had to admit he had a pretty solid stage presence and energy. I was happy that Royce showed up, but why didn't Lil Wayne appear? That to me was probably the most disappointing aspect of the show, simply because I was more or less expecting it. Another "appearance" I enjoyed was Mr. Porter. I had no idea that he was Em's hype man, so I was wondering to myself the whole time who this random guy helping Eminem out was. At the end of the show he said "I'm Mr. Porter!" Quite the pleasant surprise for me.

I wasn't disappointed that Wayne didn't appear......but I was surprised.
Honestly......if you want to have a pretty memorable show, bringing a few interesting guests will definitely add to that. When Nas came out to the Beastie Boys I went absolutely nuts with a bunch of others. I'm super glad we got Royce but could you imagine the way the crowd would have erupted if say 50 Cent, Dr. Dre, or someone else suddenly appeared for a few songs? That would blow the roof off.
I'm glad with what we got but I definitely expected Lil Wayne. Not disappointed because I don't know they're song too well anyway.....but definitely a little surprised.
Heyyyyyy guys I'm gonna bump this 6 1/2 year old thread, hope that's cool.
As much as everyone and they momma has rightfully shitted on Revival, Eminem's verse on the Chloraseptic remix is amazing. I wish he rapped like this all the time.

The original version of this song is flat out the worst song I have ever heard.

He just did his first show of 2018 and only did two songs off Revival....Walk on Water and River. Rest of the set was basically a greatest hits set, with an emphasis on pre 2006.

And instead of saying all of your goodbyes - let them know you realize that life goes fast - It's hard to make the good things last-you realize the sun doesn't go down - It's just an illusion caused by the world spinning round
He did almost none of the songs in their entirety which is a bummer. One verse and one chorus from all his older stuff. Lame
Ever seen Jay-Z? Pretty much does the same thing. Just something you gotta deal with from these guys
I guess.. I mean I know you're not wrong, but a headliner should be held to a higher standard IMO. I've seen some pretty great rap performances from "non-headliners" that would put Eminem to shame.

Anyone expect this set to go longer than 90 minutes of actual performance time?
Not really, I don't think many of his shows have ever been longer than 90 minutes. Also considering U2 was the only headliner to get two hours last year (at the very last minute) I think the chances of him being scheduled longer than 90 minutes are very low.

That setlist works for me. God 15-24 would be just hella fun!
Holy Christ! Give me 6-14 and I would die. Wish we could cancel out 3-5 but I won't complain if we get 6-24. That's a pretty insane set tbh. Only things I would like to see added in would be Till I collapse, Say Goodbye to Hollywood, No Love, and maybe beautiful. I know the last three are doubtful but still hopeful for Till I collapse.

What were the final set list lengths for all the headliners last year? Other than U2 being slotted 2 hours, I remember the other two having really untraditional slot lengths. Like an hour 20 or an hour 40.

Yeah RHCP had an hour 40 and The Weeknd had an hour 20

Seeing him at Coachella definitely made me excited for this set. Even before he brought out all of the guests, my group was loving the set. Probably going to try for pit for this one.
