Mmm .Twin Shadow. Great music. He's newer in the music world, releasing his first album, Forget, in 2010. His sound is steeped in 1980s new wave.

The Black Keys, for those unfortunate enough to have not yet heard them, are an America blues rock duo out of Akron, Ohio. Formed in 2001 by Dan Auerbach (guitars/vocals) and Pat Carney (drums). The band formed when Dan went into a studio to record music with his current band. He met and befriended Pat there, and when the rest of Dan's band failed to show up, the two began jamming and eventually formed their own group based on their mutual love for old blues music. They released several albums that won them instant attention in the underground music scene, while slowing expanding their fanbase with their increasingly diverse sound and awesome live shows. In 2008 they released Attack & Release, which was produced by Dangermouse. This album won critical praise and increased commercial attention, but was nothing compared to their follow-up to that, Brothers. This album also won critical praise and brought them a huge increase in commercial attention with strong Billboard numbers, radio airplay, and commercial spots.
In concert, they tend to perfrom most of their early stuff in their original 2-piece form, while adding additional musicians at the point in the show when they switch to their more recent material which requires more musicians.
Buffalo Springfield was formed in Los Angeles, CA by Stephen Stills, Neil Young, Richard Furay, Jim Messina, Dewey Martin, and Bruce Palmer. They released 3 albums over the course of their career before breaking up in 1968 due to internal conflict and drug-related incidents. Stephen Stills went on to form Crosby Stills and Nash, Neil Young went solo, and Richard Furay and Jim Messina formed country rock band Poco.
Their most popular songs were "For What It's Worth," "Bluebird," and "Mr. Soul," though for most fans of the band, their peak was their second album, Buffalo Springfield Again.
Their first album was hampered by a lack of quality production and bad management (crazy assholes thought Neil Young's voice was "too weird" to sell.) By the time they made their 3rd and final album, Last Time Around, the band was no longer a band. LTA was essentially a solo compilation by Furay, Stills, and Young, with all members of the band never being present in the recording studio at the same time.
Buffalo Springfield Again is the guys at their best, with ripping guitar solos, smooth voice harmonization, and quality songwriting.
Reformed in 2010 for Neil Young's Bridge School benefit, the current lineup features Young, Stills, and Furay, as well as CSN drummer Joe Vitale and Neil Young bassist Rick Rosas.
Pretty Lights, real name Derek Vincent Smith, is an electronic music artist from Colorado, United States. Since July 2010, Adam Deitch has assisted during live performances. The name comes from a Pink Floyd concert poster that read "Come and watch the pretty lights!" Smith's music is the product of digital sampling and crosses many genres, forming a combination of "glitchy hip-hop beats, buzzing synth lines, and vintage funk and soul samples, sometimes grime." Pretty Lights' sound is generated by synthesizing samples and organic beats using the monome and the Akai MPD32. Smith uses these digital controllers to program the music production software Ableton Live 8.
Primus is a band from San Fransico California. They Play a very unique blend of funk, metal, and psychedelic rock. They are also known for jamming live.
Les Claypool - Bass and Vocals Larry Lalonde - Guitar Jay Lane - Drums
They have six studio albums Frizzle Fry - The prototypical Primus sound, heavy and funky Sailing The Seas of Cheese - More of the same, better songwriting, slightly more progressive. This album has most of their best known songs and is considered one of their best. Pork Soda - A much darker sounding album than their previous two, very murky and heavy. This is also considered one of their best. Tales From The Punchbowl - Their most psychedelic record. Almost the opposite mood wise of Pork Soda The Brown Album - Their first album with their second drummer. My least favorite Primus album. Boring compared to the others, but still a good record. Antipop - Primus' final full record, and last with their second drummer (assuming they make another with their current drummer) Not as cohesive sounding as their other records due to multiple guest producers. Still a cool record with fun guest appearances (Tom Waits, Tom Morello, James Hetfield)
Here are some live videos
This is with their current drummer, also one of the best live songs they due due to the unreal jam.

You had gained some points with me until you said what you said about The Brown Album.
For any of you out there that got scared away from it, just realize that The Brown Album is not only my favorite Primus album, it is also Tom Waits's favorite Primus album.

I see a bunch of videos, but I'm wondering if you mean this by a good night story? Are we sitting around the campfire listening to stories about the 2011 lineup? Because that's what your thread sounds like.
Oh what's that? You promised to be nice to everybody if the lineup was good?
OH SNAP.
Maybe I should sit Indian-style listening to whoever tell us about the 2011 lineup soon, because that's how much this THREAD SUCKS!!!!!

Just my least favorite, I should point out that currently there is no such thing as a bad Primus album.

You can't just throw a smiley on a weird passive aggressive post and have it be alright.

Emoney serves more of a purpose than any of you, especially Nate, whose incessant, garbled ramblings are so mindless and pointless that I get depressed just seeing them.

Hahah, no hard feelings. I never really took it as you saying that it sucked. I just felt the need to attest to its greatness because I felt it came off a little "undersold," shall we say?
Band A Day has more potential than this thread ever did. I was right, you were wrong.
for the record, last year when I was a lurker, Band a day introduced me to a lot of great bands and it was easier to sift through than this thread will get when more people start writing. If the first post links to the reviews then that would help, but I can see this getting messy.
They've been around for a long time. Something like 1993. Two person group that consists of Slug and Ant. Slug raps, Ant produces. They're earliest music is more self-aware and focused but their most recent full length consists of a lot more storytelling and outside perspective. Basically not only does Slug rap really well, his writing is excellent.
They don't play anything from the first album Overcast anymore, and their fifth album Strictly Leackage is an internet only release, which leaves four actual albums.
God Loves Ugly (2002)
Seven's Travels (2003)
You Can't Imagine How Much Fun We're Having (2005)
When Life Gives You Lemons, You Paint That Shit Gold (2008)
Tracks to jump in with
From their second album Lucy Ford:
From their third album Seven's Travels:
From their sixth (and my personal favorite) When Life Gives You Lemons, You Paint That Shit Gold

Mumford & Sons "What we write about is real, and we sing and play our instruments more passionately cos we feel like we need to. We love honest music," Winston Marshall.
Members: Marcus Mumford: vocals, guitar, mandolin, drums Ben Lovett: vocals, keyboards, accordion, drums “Country” Winston Marshall: vocals, banjo, Dobro Ted Dwane: vocals, double bass, drums (Although the band members have claims on certain instruments, they switch instruments during live shows according to convenience, because they can all play just about anything.)
Bio: Since they formed in December 2007, the members of Mumford & Sons have shared a common purpose: to make music that matters, without taking themselves too seriously. The four young men from West London in their early twenties create a gutsy, old-time sound that marries the magic of Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young with the might of Kings of Leon, and their incredible energy draws us in quickly to their circle of songs.
The four friends were playing various instruments in different bands in London throughout the summer of 2007. They were united to perform impromptu renditions of Marcus’ earliest attempts at song-writing in front of crowds of friends in sweaty underground folk nights in the capital. They bonded over their love of country, bluegrass and folk, and decided to make music that sounded loud, proud and live - taking music that could often be pretty and delicate, and fill it with enthusiasm, courage and confidence. They loved live music so much that they would practice their sets on pavements outside the venues, and also act as backing musicians for the peers with whom they played. www.mumfordandsons.com/biography
The band toured extensively throughout 2008. Their debut album was released on October 5, 2009 with "Little Lion Man" as the lead single. In December 2010, the band earned Grammy Award nominations for Best New Artist and Best Rock Song ("Little Lion Man"). On February 13, 2011, Mumford & Sons' performed "The Cave" at the 2011 Grammy Awards. At the Brit Awards on February 15, 2011, they performed "Timshel" won an award for British Album of the Year with Sigh No More.
Genre: folk rock, bluegrass, nu-folk
Similar artists: Johnny Flynn, The Avett Brothers, Cadillac Sky, Frightened Rabbit, and I’m guessing Bob Dylan since they performed with him at the Grammy’s Similar Bonnaroo Artists: Old Crow Medicine Show, Gregg Allman (his newest stuff), Buffalo Springfield, Alison Krauss & Union Station
I’ve never seen them live, but I absolutely cannot wait! From the videos I’ve watched, their shows are pure musicality. What I love most is that they sound the same on the live videos as they do on the produced album. You can tell that the guys love what they are doing and are having the time of their lives.
The Sword is an American heavy metal band that formed in Austin, Texas, in 2003.
Since its inception, the band has comprised vocalist and guitarist John "J. D." Cronise, guitarist Kyle Shutt and bassist Bryan Richie, and currently includes touring drummer Kevin Fender following Trivett Wingo's departure in November 2010. Signed to New York-based independent label Kemado Records, the group released debut album Age of Winters in 2006, which was largely written by Cronise prior to the band's formation. The band's second album, Gods of the Earth, was released two years later and gave the group its first Billboard 200 chart entry. The Sword's third album, Warp Riders (2010), is a concept album centered on an original science fiction narrative written by Cronise.
While commonly labeled as a doom metal band, The Sword has also been identified as an example of the 'retro metal' movement of stoner rock artists influenced by early metal bands such as Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin and Blue Cheer. In addition to Sabbath, to whom the band is commonly compared, artists such as Sleep, Melvins and Slayer have been cited as influences by members of the band. The Sword is held in generally high regard by music critics, and has toured on a number of occasions with high-profile bands such as Trivium, Lamb of God and Metallica.
they also played on thursday in 2008 and it was incredible. expect them either in the metal tent or maybe late night prior to opeth.

Sharon Van Etten is an American singer-songwriter based in Brooklyn, New York City.
Her songs were described by the music website Pitchfork Media as "with some echoes of folk tradition but generally in a more personal, introspective space." NPR Music describes: "Her songs are heartfelt without being overly earnest; her poetry is plainspoken but not overt, and her elegant voice is wrapped in enough rasp and sorrow to keep from sounding too pure or confident."
Van Etten was born and raised in New Jersey. She moved to Tennessee to attend Middle Tennessee State University, where she discovered a variety of influential music. After moving back home to New Jersey, Van Etten was encouraged by Kyp Malone of TV on the Radio to pursue a career in music.
Her official debut, Because I Was In Love was released in spring 2009. In August 2009, she appeared in Hospice, the critically acclaimed album by indie rock group The Antlers and performed vocals on the track "Thirteen". On September 21, 2010 she released her second album Epic.
Currently doing demos/recording her new album with the Dessner (the National) brothers.
Kylesa is a metal band that was formed in Savannah, Georgia. Their music incorporates experimentalism with sludgy riffs, drop-tuned guitars and elements of psychedelic rock.
The group was established in 2001 by the former members of Damad, with the addition of guitar player Laura Pleasants who is from North Carolina. The band has since undergone line up changes; the remaining original members are Phillip Cope and Laura Pleasants. In 2006, the band added two drummers (Carl McGinley of Unpersons, from Savannah, and Jeff Porter). Eric Hernandez (of Capsule, from Miami) joined in 2008 to replace Porter and plays on Static Tensions. The dual drum tracks are often panned strongly to the right and left, respectively, and create a rhythmic ambience.
Similar to Baroness and Mastodon in sound and location (southern Georgia). Their guitarist Phillip Cope is a godfather in the southern metal scene having produced many of the top bands over the past 10 years.
Dual vocalists (one female, one male), dual drummers and tons of sludge in their metal. Last album was named a top 50 record by Pitchfork for 2010.
