Whether it's your first Bonnaroo or you’re a music festival veteran, we welcome you to Inforoo.
Here you'll find info about artists, rumors, camping tips, and the infamous Roo Clues. Have a look around then create an account and join in the fun. See you at Bonnaroo!!
It's definitely an odd setup no matter where they play. This lineup seems pretty top heavy in that there are a lot of big names (Eminem, WSP, AF, MMJ, BS, Strokes, SCI, Wayne, Plant, Keys) so I think we'll see a lot of "odd" slots this year.
I was advocating they would play the Jack Johnson slot of a later pre-headliner than other years, not the Stevie Wonder spot (although JJ came on at 8 and Stevie at 8:30 so there isn't a huge difference).
I just think it's kind of odd to rule them out of playing between the Keys and Eminem based on Insider's information. She was pretty vague when it came to Saturday and, judging from Capp's tweets, things could have changed last minute with a BS addition meaning Insider had outdated information and they've switched up the time slots. She has been spot on with who is playing every year, yes, but it's not like she's the end-all-be-all of the Bonnaroo schedule. They could have changed things up since she told us or changed their mind or what not.
The Keys being billed ahead of them is probably the most solid evidence against it being Keys>BS>Eminem but I guess it's still possible. I've found Bonnaroo's billing this year and last year to be pretty odd, to be honesty.
There are only a couple possible spots they can play...
Opening for Arcade Fire After the Black Keys, before Eminem Closing Which Playing opposite Black Keys ala Beasties/Byrne
The first two are the only ones I see realistic, and I just can't see a huge reunion like BS, their only festival performance, with Neil Young, opening during the afternoon.
I guess we'll just have to wait until April to see.

I get your point, but it's not like they're playing Which at 2 PM on Saturday. They'd get two hours and it dips right into primetime on Friday night. It's not that I COULDN'T see them playing between the Keys and Eminem on Saturday, it's just that there's not alot of evidence to support that right now. It's really, really hard to see The Black Keys opening for BS with a higher spot on the bill. That's why I think BS>AF>MMJ makes the most sense.
Unless they close Which, which I'd be pleasantly surprised by. I'd be pretty shocked to see Buffalo Springfield not play What. But, as you said, the lineup is top-heavy this year, so someone is going to be the odd man out of a prime slot.
FWIW, I agree that Buffalo Springfield looked like a last-minute addition. So did Lil Wayne.

I'm not 100% sold on them playing Saturday. Are Buffalo Springfield and Lil Wayne confirmed at all for Saturday? The three of them (plus Eminem) is just way too crowded, unless they did something like double pre-headliners into a special late night. (BS vs Lil Wayne into Eminem into Black Keys LN? maybe).
But if that's not the case any of them can pre-headline Arcade Fire on either the What or Which stages. Who knows? Maybe we'd see our BS vs Lil Wayne preheadliners Friday. But in any case, don't convince yourself that BS is 'too big' to open for Arcade Fire. Of any act Neil Young is involved in (solo, Crazy Horse, CSNY) it's definitely the smallest get. Even if this is a rare performance, I doubt a good portion of the festival attendees even know who they are. There's a reason they're the only act on the lineup with their members listed, and it's because two of their members are considerably more famous for their other pursuits. BS only have three albums between them.
Don't get me wrong, this is the one performance I'm looking forward to more than just about any this year. Yes, this band could headline. But they don't have to. And they're not going to. They get to close the What stage or (maybe - I'm not counting on it) the Which (I doubt they'll close it though, because that would put them against Robert Plant, and I doubt Superfly wants its two biggest old-timer acts playing against each other). Get this '5pm before Arcade Fire' Leno out of your head because their set will begin no earlier than 6:30pm. Arcade Fire won't go on until 9pm or later, but that's a pretty typical headliner start time. It probably won't be too much later than that though, because My Morning Jacket's playing that night.
FRI What: Buffalo Springfield (6:30pm-8:00pm) -> Arcade Fire (9pm-11pm) -> MMJ (12am-3am) FRI Which: Lil Wayne (7:30pm-9:00pm)
SAT What: Black Keys (7:00pm-9pm) -> Eminem (10pm-12am) SAT Which: The Decemberists or Mumford & Sons (8:30pm-10pm) -> SCI (12am-2:30am)
SUN What: Robert Plant (6:30pm-8:00pm) -> Widespread Panic (9pm-11:30pm) SUN Which: The Strokes (7:15pm-8:45pm)
possible Late Night tent acts (order of likelihood): Pretty Lights, Girl Talk, Bassnectar, Ratatat, STS9, Robyn, Scissor Sisters, Explosions in the Sky, Big Boi, Black Star, Dr. John + Superjam, Opeth, Deerhunter
Oh, and I think Decemberists will probably close Which, Mumford & Sons will play late in the day on the What Stage. Decemberists are bigger than ever right now; their #1 album puts them on par with Vampire Weekend and Arcade Fire as champions of indie rock. Arcade Fire is still the standout live act among them, but Decemberists are also riding pretty high right now. I fully expect them to close the Which stage sometime during the weekend.
That and Mumford & Sons makes more sense on the What, Decemberists on the Which, to me.
seems like no one is thinking BS could possibly be late night after em then? could see it being a long jam out with many many guests in a late night spot. do you guys think they are too old to rock out a late night or what? lol
I have been to Bonnaroo every year but one and I am extremely disappointed in this line up. This line up is not representation of the last 10 years. If you agree with me go like this facebook site we are trying to create a real number. If you are a fan of the line up I am happy for you and this is just a place for us who like to biznatch about it a place to do so.
If you do not like the acts that is one thing, but to say that this lineup does not represent the last 10 years is just plain invalid. Do some more research next time. I also noticed the bitching and moaning on that silly Facebook group is mostly aimed at Eminem and Lil Wayne. Yes, hip-hop has been added to Bonnaroo recently and it is here to stay. However, they only represent a small portion of the acts performing. Thus, if you don't like those acts, go to another set or find something else to do during that time.

Wow, does nobody think MMJ is going to do LN on the what stage? I would be a little dissapointed if the sun was still up when I saw them, which means no 4 hour set
I'm resigned to the fact I'm going to miss The Strokes if I leave early on Sunday. Any chance of Lil' Wayne getting a late night set? I know it makes more sense to put MMJ in that slot, but it would still be pretty great to have Wayne playing the early morning hours.

I have Lil Wayne as late night.
Btw, on a non related subject, realized Mumford & Sons were left out. Which stage closer on Saturday. The Decemberists on Friday. Primus, I think gets a tent in the late night.
Edit: I think your worst conflict during the day is going to be MMJ-Decemberists-Opeth-and whoever closes 4th tent...maybe Beirut.
LN will be off the charts clusterfuck again like last year. Just opinion only.

Thats the second time Ive seen someone say that now, and I have to think Primus is too big for a tent. I was surprised at how low they dropped in the billing, but Les Claypool is a deity at Bonnaroo and they were the first ever stage late night. Its hard for me to believe that years later they would come back and be relegated to a tent.
Guys, I am fairly certain Buffalo Springfield isn't playing Stevie's slot from last year. Insider told us that The Black Keys were pre-headlining. Eminem is the headliner for Saturday night, not Buffalo Springfield. I think/hope the meaty part of the lineup will be something like this:
Friday: What: Buffalo Springfield (5:30-7:30) => Arcade Fire (8:30-10:30) => My Morning Jacket (11:30-2:30) Which: Lil Wayne (7-8:30) This LN: STS9 => Primus That LN: Ratatat => Bassnectar The Other LN: Scissor Sisters => Girl Talk
Saturday: What: The Black Keys (6:30-8) => Eminem (9-11:30) Which: Mumford & Sons (7-8:30) => String Cheese Incident (12-3) This LN: Dan Auerbach & Dr. John => Dr. John and The Meters perform Desitively Bonnaroo That LN: Explosions in the Sky => Pretty Lights The Other LN: Big Boi => Mos Def & Talib Kweli are Black Star (callin' it)
Sunday: What: Robert Plant & the Band of Joy (6:30-8) => Widespread Panic (9-11:30) Which: The Strokes (7:15-8:45)
I agree with almost all of your What/Which acts, but I do have The Decemberists in Lil Wayne's spot though.
There are going to be conflicts for everybody but my question as a first timer is, how long/difficult is it to go from what-->which or to the tents? Is it that hard to get into a tent after the headliner finishes on what or for late night tent shows?
Does there have to be a late night stage set done by a rapper? Maybe Lil wayne will headline the which stage during the day.
MMJ will not release a new album and then play their favorite festival and play for less than 3 hours, especially becuase they seem to OWN late night bonnaroo...Just my opinion.
I hope that Arcade Fire can put together a longer set for Bonnaroo. They seem to always cap it off at 2 hours. My guess is they are headlining Friday with MMJ playing the late night set. Maybe with some guests 'ala 2008.
Friday Night~ What: Ray Lamontagne (2:00 - 3:30) --> Dr John and the Original Meters (4:30 - 6:00) --> The Decemberists (7:00 - 8:30) --> Arcade Fire (9:30-12:00) --> My Morning Jacket (2:00 - 5:00)
Which: Cold War Kids (11:30 - 1:00) Florence + the Machine (2:00 - 3:30) --> Robyn (4:15 - 6:300) --> Lil Wayne (7:30 - 9:15) --> String Cheese Incident (12:30 - 2:30)
Late Night Tents: Pretty Lights, Girl Talk, Big Boi, Mumford & Sons, Global Gypsy Punk Revue -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Saturday Night~ What: Portugal. The Man (1:15 - 2:30) The Strokes (3:45 - 5:15) --> The Black Keys (6:15 - 8:00) --> Eminem (9:00 - 11:30) --> Primus (2:30 - 4:30)
Which: Matt & Kim (11:45 - 1:00) Gregg Allman (2:00 - 3:45) --> Béla Fleck & the Flecktones (4:45 - 6:15) --> Gogol Bordello (7:15 - 8:45) --> Buffalo Springfield (12:00 - 2:00)
Late Night Tents: STS9, Explosions in the Sky, Superjam, Bassnectar, Deerhunter --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Sunday Night~ What: Bootsy Collins & the Funk University (1:00 - 2:30) --> Alison Krauss & Union Station (3:30 - 5:00) --> Robert Plant and the Band of Joy (6:00 - 7:45) --> Widespread Pnaic (9:00 - 12:00)
Which: The Walkmen (11:45 - 1:00) --> Opeth (2:15 - 3:45) --> Bruce Hornsby & the Noisemakers (4:45 - 6:15) --> Iron & Wine (7:30 - 9:00)

I thought I read somewhere that Grace Potter will be in Ray Lamontagne's spot.

I agree, but they played on the stage 2004 if I'm correct? Two different festivals, though with the same name.

before i submit to this torture, i have to say logic can only go so far when planning mock schedules (see animal collective 2009). also, i'm more tense for the sched. to drop than i was for the lineup.
seems like everyone is most concerned with late nights so far, so thats what im gonna focus on. the only thing i hope for is MMJ on the which (not what) LN friday 12-4. if i get this, let the chips fall where they may. girl talk/bassnectar LN friday tent. im also thinking dr john/meters on LN friday. atmosphere/wiz/bigboi LN friday tent lil wayne LN sat on the which. dr john/dan superjam LN sat tent. opeth/sword LN sat tent pretty lights/ratatat LN sat tent
i was pretty sold on the strokes closing out which on sunday, but i could definitely see them doing a LN saturday set (f'n awesome lightshow; see lollapalooza 2010). if they dont close sunday, i'd imagine the decemberists or mumford & sons filling the spot.
i still dont know where to fit in the hutz superjam. and potential thursday acts are driving me nuts.
I see the Strokes as a latenite stage act - possibly on What, post-Eminem
Blk Keys->Eminem->Strokes
Except Strokes aren't big enough to headline the What stage, LN or no.
They'd make enough sense to me playing a Which LN if it weren't for the fact that MMJ and SCI are likely to be our stage headliners this year. I guess we could see more, but I'm not counting on it. But Which closer is one of the best slots at Bonnaroo IMO.
There are going to be conflicts for everybody but my question as a first timer is, how long/difficult is it to go from what-->which or to the tents? Is it that hard to get into a tent after the headliner finishes on what or for late night tent shows?

What & Which are right next to each other, but it can take as much as fifteen minutes or maybe more to get between them in heavy traffic - such as when a Which closer ends and a What headliner begins. The tents are a little further away but not by much, and because it's way more open you're not going to really get slowed down much by traffic. Expect about 15 minutes walk from What stage to the tents, maybe something like 10 or less from the Which stage. You can probably make it from the Which stage to one or two of the tents in 5 minutes. Google 'centeroo map' if you want to see the typical layout.
And no, there does not have to be a late night stage set by a rapper. As far as I know Kanye and Jay-Z are the only instances of it. As far as late night in general goes you'll probably see a mix of Dance, Jam, and Hip Hop, as well as a few straight Rock acts lucky/big enough to land a latenight spot (ie Flaming Lips, Nine Inch Nails, Black Keys).
And I wouldn't expect to see Arcade Fire play any more than two hours. That's not just their typical set time, it's a typical headliner set time. Yes, Bonnaroo is special to some, but Arcade Fire aren't the types to give a Leno.
There are going to be conflicts for everybody but my question as a first timer is, how long/difficult is it to go from what-->which or to the tents? Is it that hard to get into a tent after the headliner finishes on what or for late night tent shows?
Some one else said 15 minutes I think last year it took closer to a half hour from Weezer (stage right near the big tree) to the very last row of the What Stage before Stevie Wonder, by the beer vendor right next to the I <3 Spicy pie vendor. Plus we left Weezer thirty minutes into their set because it was awful. But I think that crowd was from multiple sources the largest crowd Bonnaroo has ever seen. Getting from place to place all depends on what is going on and the time of day. There were times it took 30 minutes to get through the arch because people were acting like jack asses, and there were times it was a quick pat and let in. Sometimes it took 30 minutes to walk from The Other Tent to What Stage some times 10. Then there's the walk home at 7pm - 15 minutes, and at 4am, two hours. Just depends on the circumstances

What: Buffalo Springfield(6:30-8:00) - Arcade Fire(9:00-11:30) - My Morning Jacket(12:30-3:30) Which: Lil' Wayne (6:00-7:30)

Late Nights are going to be hard this year, as there are so many bands that I can see deserving a spot: SCI, Bassnectar, Girl Talk, Pretty Lights, Superjam, Explosions in the Sky, STS9, Big Boi, Scissor Sisters, Ratatat, Opeth, Atmosphere, !!!, Portugal. The Man, etc.

That's the only place I can picture Buffalo Springfield being. Unless Eminem were in the Jay-Z spot and BS were in the Stevie Wonder spot, then technically Eminem wouldn't be a headliner. He'd be the late night. I think they'll have BS in the Jay-Z spot and a pretty big rap late night tent going on. They've never had late night acts on both the What and Which in the same night. I don't think they'll start now.

This would be absolutely ideal for me. I hope something similar transpires.
