Can someone tell me the best deoderant to buy? Stick or gel?
I bought the aerosal can spray deoderant last year to avoid any melting issues of bar deoderant and it worked well. I wouldn't use it on a day to day basis, but kept me feeling somewhat clean at Roo.
Me, my girlfriend and my little sister used our solar shower twice a day! (one full bag made it 3 showers comfortably and we were all girls with long hair.)
A loofah, body wash and a bag of water go A LONG way and were amazing in the late afternoon.
I tried just about every possible idea to elevate the solar shower on a pole so we could shower hands free...even bought a $110 aluminum flagpole and mount (which were used in the longrun) nothing worked better than putting the bag on top of the car and just using the long hose to rinse off.
I regretted spending so much time thinking about possible solutions. The privacy tent worked awesome for changing and helped keep bugs out of the tent because we weren't going in and out of them throughout the day.
You better believe it baby! A paid shower in the morning and a another trough wash at night. I am not ashamed to admit that I like music AND boys and while the music may not care, boys like clean tit-tays.
Well I can't deny that. You have successfully and completely changed my opinion of showering at bonnaroo
I bring a 5 gallon bucket full of camping supplies. After I empty my bucket and camp is set up I fill the bucket with water and sit the pump in it for my shower. This is great for washing long hair. I leave the bucket full of water in the sun during the day to warm and shower before I crash for the night. I hate going to bed dirty.
So did this work pretty well for you? I'm reading conflicting reviews on the product....
I don't shower at Roo- Body wipes, feminine wipes, face wipes.. plus a bottle of water and a razor for the pits. Done! (All I buy at the dollar store). A friend had a solar shower last year and we were directly next to the woods in BFE. She just went into the woods, hung it from a tree, and it worked great for her. No issues about where to hang, or where the water would go! The problem is that you don't know how close to the woods you'll end up camping...
I use spray deodorant at Roo... why? I bring it in Centeroo and can share with friends without getting their pit sweat all over it
Welcome back Bonz, but I do not find it strange that your presence being requested in the Orgy thread and then you showing up, like it was the quacking Bonzai Bat Signal.
Great reviews, and it relies on solar energy. Seems too perfect.
Yeaahh I already have one of those. They don't heat up very well, plus you can't hang them from a privacy shelter...it's way too heavy. And a pain in the ass to fill up and haul to your campsite. But good for camping if there's actually trees nearby. I think I'll just stick to filling up a jug of water.

Shower smower. Walk thru the fountain once a day. Going four days as a dusty wookie will not kill you or offend yr neighbors. This is a music fest, not a fukkin Fructois fest.

Been through three Roos and never showered. Just washing up at the troughs (or at the campsite with a bucket of water from the troughs) and taking some good ol' baby wipe baths is fine for me. I can definitely see how a solar shower thing would be nice, but to me it isn't worth the hassle of trying to find a way to deal with the runoff. Not showering really doesn't bother me that much, and I'd much rather be a bit grimy than accidentally send a flood of water into my neighbor's campsite because I'm dumb and set my shower up wrong, y'know? (Not that I have ANYTHING against anyone who brings a shower as long as you are considerate about it, just saying I'm not sure it's for me!)
I will say that just washing your feet goes a LONG way to making you feel clean! And I also think it's worth it to use some water that's been warmed by the sun. Cold water straight from the troughs (or melted cooler water!) feels great in a refreshing sense, but it just doesn't get me feeling quite as clean as hot water, especially for my feet.
For whoever asked about yeast infections (TMI WARNING!) - the only time I've had an issue is when I was unlucky enough to be on my period at Roo. And not really a full-blown yeastie-beastie either, just itching without the - ahem - other symptoms. But really, like someone else said, cleanliness is NOT really the issue, the issue is just that it's hot and you're sweaty and things are getting rather, er, moist and in that heat and humidity it's hard to stay dry. It's the hot, moist environment that the yeast loves. So if you're prone to 'em, just do what you can to stay dry.
Oh, and anyone who's going to get annoyed that the person next to them smells on Sunday oughta be smacked, imo.
When it comes to yeast infections, underwear is an enabler, so I say all women should not wear any underwear at Roo. If you do not want to do it for freedom, then do it for no yeast.

I've never payed for a shower at 'Roo. I just go the troughs every morning and before late night with an empty gallon jug and shampoo/bodywash combo. Love that freezing cold water in the morning.
In 2006 went we left on Monday..we stopped for gas and as we were paying the nice lady at the counter said "you know, there is a truck stop up the road aways and they offer showers." I asked "do we smell that bad?" Yes, mamm, you do!"....jeez returning to the "real" world after roo can sometimes be VERY Funny!
Last year I walk into the gas station and some guy says to me "Where's your shirt, boy?" I just laughed.

Yes, the shower worked like a charm! I've taken it camping several times, I even used it to rinse my camp dishes after washing them. The water pressure is so-so, but I didn't expect it to work like my shower at home. It is so much better than trying to use a solar shower.
One of my favorite things from last year was seeing the enormous line for the showers on friday morning. I understand some people have to shower to feel clean, but cmon after less than a day?

To be honest as a guy clean tit-tays arent as important as clean other places, Im just saying but then again if it even gets that far its all gonna be hot and sweaty anyways so whatever I guess ha ha
We have a shower tent but we have found that we only take a quick shower Friday and Sunday morning if it hasn't rained and washed some of the dust and dirt off. Otherwise it is baby wipes, shampoo wipes (REI) and keeping the feet comfortable.
The fountain after GWAR last year was a bloody mess, so my advice is to avoid the fountain after Friday.
The other option was going to the bootleg showers by the ice truck in Rusty Griswold (my campsite). The showers were cheaper (if I recall correctly) than the official Bonnaroo showers. The trade off was that they were FREEZING cold. Reason: they were getting the water from the ice truck. Sounds nice, but 30 degree water on a 95 degree day kind of sucked.
YES. I was just coming on here to ask where that was - I had no idea what our campsite was called. These were great - I just walked up the hill and right into a shower stall. Standing under freezing water (precariously balancing on wood pallets while pulling the cord that released the water and trying to prevent the curtain from blowing open, ha) dulled the pain of 80 degree heat at 8 in the morning, every morning.
Is there a map of the grounds on the Bonnaroo website? I've just wasted 10 minutes looking for one and am possibly blind. I want to figure out where this place is in comparison to everywhere else...I would like to end up near it again, I'd take frigid water over standing in lines to bathe any day.

The real issue for me is the giant mud pits that form around the troughs. I washed up at the troughs every day in 2007 when it was SO dry that there was no mud, but since then every time I go to the troughs I just stare at the mud pit like "...yeah, I don't think I'm going to come out of this feeling any cleaner than I do right now." That's why filling a bucket to bring back to camp to wash up with started to seem so much better.
So...what's anyone else's strategy for the mud pits? The bucket works but it'd be nice to have the running water rather than a bucket that just gets progressively dirtier as you try to get cleaner. How do you guys who wash up at the troughs manage to get out of there without the mud undoing all the washing?

^I just fill up my jug with some water before leaving the trough area. Once clear of any mud use the remaining water to rinse off any mud on the feet/legs.
The 5 Minute Shower......only need a large water jug(i used a 3 gallon)
Fill it up at the water station on the campgrounds
Strip to underwear (or naked - who effing cares)
Dump water over yourself
Lather up and rinse
This. Except I wear a bathing suit. I've used camp showers before and this is so much better. It's free, and I think it stacks up to any other method of cleaning.
last year i used a five gallon bucket with a bilge pump and 10ft of hose with a low flow shower head on it. we used a marine battery with an ac plug hooked to it to power the unit. the pressure combined with the low flow head was enough for for people to take a shower on one full bucket.

Thats some macguyver type Leno...I dig it
True that, I like that design. Looks easy to build, but you got some schematics?
i will pull it out of storage this weekend and put together a parts list. there are a few things that were not as important as i thought they would be. if you build it i would use plastic instead of brass fittings to keep down the build price. you could use a much smaller ball valve also. the braided hose is not a must either but it will not kink when rolled up.

The only problem with one like this is you still have to haul water to it . That's why I never used mine. By the time I went to the water station to haul water, I'd just wash in the trough while I was there.
Of course, I've never bought ice and have had no real melt to use so if you use "cooler water" you save that hassle.
Very cool looking though. Much more professional looking than mine.

that would be sweet! I'm on a budget and if I can spend less than $40 I'm doing this. Let us know what you can dig up
