Voodoo in no way resembles GOTV. Voodoo is'nt a hippie ragefest. Although plenty of hippies are raging out at Voodoo every year
I was only making that comment based on the rumored artists reply a few up from mine. Primus was there last year, Furthur this year and a bunch others.
Don't know about any rumors for Voodoo for this year..... I would def. expect Primus, maybe Ween again. Mars Volta. Soundgarden as a headliner is probably likely... I would expect one big jamband, maybe Furthur (fingerscrossed).
Don't blow your money staying at the Marriot. You can get a way cheaper place at the India House hostel off Canal street. It's not posh or anything, but its a psychedelic hostel full of weirdos and vagabonds that is a lot of fun.
Where are you guys hearing these rumors? Furthur? Why would Primus turn around play again?
I don't see Soundgarden for VooDoo. They are touring in July only this year due to conflicts with Pearl Jam I am sure. Though if PJ happens to have an open weekend around Halloween....that would be awesome! ;D

There was no rumor I read about any of the afforementioned bands I listed. I pulled them out of my ass. Educated guess is a better way to put it, as I've been to 7 Voodoo's, and I keep up with who is touring/hitting up festi circuit. Primus has never played Voodoo before, and this is their year, so I think it will happen for sure. Mars Volta was huge at 08 Voodoo, and they just started touring again (opening for Soundgarden) and I think they will be there this year. I say Furthur because there really hasn't ever been any type of Dead show at Voodoo. Could easily not happen, but Furthur has not played New Orleans yet and I think it could happen, not likely, but possibly.

Had a fantastic time last year, but im not sure if im doing it this year or not. I'd certainly love to, but I'm doing ACL. I might try to do both but I haven't decided yet. I picked ACL because I haven't done that yet while I got to do Voodoo last year.
But I'll try. It was my first time in New Orleans and ive been wanting to go back since

As far as rumored acts go, Voodoo made a facebook post saying how they considered Le Plur to be a huge success and plan to "expand" it next year. So, idk what that will amount to, but it has to be good news for the electronic fans.

Chemical Brothers or bust. Bringing back Justice would be great too.
Though I'm worried they'll go too hard on the dubstep for it.
Trust me...if you were at the Le Plur ANY last year it was HUGE! And the crowds were MASSIVE for the area. Which is why I say I am guessing they will expand the area for the Techno stage this year. It was by FAR the most crowded stage last year even competing with Headliners. I expect it to get the space that the SOCO stage has had in years past and they will swap the two...tho I could be wrong. But they will DEFINITELY expand the techno stage...it was crowded ALL THE TIME last year!
Le Plur was crowded yes, but it was overrun with kids, spunions and scenesters. Hot Chip and Die Antword were cool.....Crystal Method too (I'm pretty sure they were there).
Electronica is cool and all, but its bullshit to cut back on live music with instruments to satisfy all the brosteppers et. al

That's exactly why I had to pass on last year's line-up. I've got my fingers crossed they right the ship and bring the rock again this year. One dude bobbing his head in front of a Mac just doesn't cut it for me as a live music experience. Howsabout Prince, F Lips, MMJ & Slayer?
Whether it is your thing or not (and it's NOT my major thing) the techno stage ruled at VooDoo last year. Yeah maybe a bunch of frat kids and other assorted riff raff but....they paid as much as anyone to go. I see it only expanding. I HOPE they keep the general great variety in the lineup but definitely last year proved that techno sells!

Yeah, so does Justin Beiber & Crack. That doesn't make it good. I'm all for variety, add a bunch of GOOD EDM bands, cool. I just hope they don't put all their eggs in an Ultra-basket and wonder what happened in a few years when the whomp-whomp hype dies down.
I agree. And hope the VooDoo organizers realize that they HAVE to attract both the hipsters AND the normal fesite goer that wants to have alternatives and good music over ANY fad.....but there is no denying (if you look @ Roo this year it is the same thing) that techno is THE major draw for the the 18-28 age range. Which more and more has the disposible income. The GA population will demand such acts while the VIPs who are usually older and have more cash will demand their choices....but the VIP crowd is MUCH more diverse than the techno crowd so it is harder to gauge the acts they want to see...
I fully expect Soundgarden to be there for the '90's act slot. Either them or Faith No More. Wouldn't count on that since Mike Patton hates the south so much (west coast prick).
I expect DFA1979 as well.......they're only playin' festis it seems, and Voodoo is perfect for them (they played like 06 I wanna say)
LMAO!! IF and it is a big IF they are there....I will be camping in the photo pit HOURS before and will probably end up throwing myself on the stage when they make us get out.....Just saying. Yes. I. Will. Be. That. Girl.

Stop playing the "who can name the most obscure band" game lol. I wouldn't worry too much about VooDoo cutting out the good live music to bring in more electronic crap. Yes.. I think they may have more than past years but I don't think they will go all out. I don't think you can compare VooDoo's line up to Bonnaroo's they're completely different & have different crowds..

Fingers crossed for Soundgarden and DFA! Last year's was the worst Voodoo lineup ever, but it was still a good time of course. Hopefully they'll bounce back with some real heavy-hitters this time around.

Who's naming "most obscure bands"?
If you think Soundgarden, DFA1979, Faith No More etc are obscure, you don't know dick about music.

According to CoS (and again it's CoS ) it is expected. So I think your right on.

I didn't think it was possible, but somehow smmindssister is one of those people who know so much about electronic music that she's able to broadbrush it all as crap, and yet so little about it that she doesn't even recognize one of the biggest names in electronica from the past decade. Kudos to you ma'am, you've pulled off the impossible!
