October 28th, 29th, 30th. City Park, 'Nawlins. We got early birds, now hoping this year's line-up rocks. Can't imagine a better setting for an urban fest. Live music, great food/booze & crazy costumes, everday is Halloween in the French Quarter.
I'm in! Got my early early birds a week after last years festie....have been for so many years now it is an annual tradition...and NEVER have been let down by the lineup!
Arrrrrgh Didn't have the money at the time to get the early bird tickets, now just waiting for them to update the sight (currently undergoing some changes) so I can get my tickets and book my room!
You will not dissapointed! VooDoo is one of the most consistly awesome festivals I have been to over the years...I have NEVE feeling let down...one of the most awesome fests ever! ;D
Best non camping festival in the country. City Park is beautiful.
If they allowed camping (even just a couple hundred passes) it would be amazing. I went in 06,07 and '10 and the festival grounds have definitely gotten cooler. A little more art/activities/stuff to look at and play with. New Orleans is awesome, Holloween is awesome. It's just a great all around festival. They brought back an electronic tent right on the lake which is cool. And there is always a great local artists presence. I have a feeling its going to start getting huge (if it hasn't already) and there's going to consistently be big names and great shows.
Great food too. The only downside is you have to buy water.
Yeah, the electronic/techno stage was HUGE last year!I have a feeling they will have to move it to a larger area next year because it was ALWAYS so crowded and was one of the most popular stages all weekend! And so packed you couldn't get near it when major artists were playing. I think VooDoo will continue to grow as well. They have always been good, but I think they are shooting for great now!
I'm hoping the lineup is better than last year. I went to Voodoo '02-'04, and '07-'10 and last year was pretty weak. Hipster fest straight up. The festival program even had a "festival fashion guide" telling you "what the cool people were wearing". lmao
Woulda been my first MMJ show last year but I hauled ass from MGMT (best show of the fest by far) to get to Panic on Nolaween.
Voodoo is a GREAT festival, if you know what you're doing and are experienced from other festivals. Be prepared to be in the middle of thousands of completely drunk people though. and lots of those people will be under 16 and really annoying.
^^^ Agree Last year was ok...but the previous years have been SO STELLAR. I think the main draw last year was the Techno tent so I think they will re-adjust and go back to the original formula...AND add the techno tent!

muse, jonsi, and metric made a great one nighter last year.... hopefully the lineup will be worth getting passes for all days this year... seeing as how nola is only an hour an half away from me
^^^ Me too...just couldn't swing both Jazz Fest AND Hangout AND Bonnaroo so close together. But will eventually make it back to Jazz Fest. Crowded as heck but so worth it! ;D

So did they sell the early bird tickets really early this year? I swore they released some 3 day passes for $75 in November. Usually they release them in April.
7/2 - Lotus, MiMoSa, The New Deal, The Glitch Mob 7/3 - Red Rocks and Blue II w/ Umphrey's Mcgee and Easy Star All Stars 7/4 - Umphrey's Mcgee Boulder, CO
Yes, the EARLY early birds went on sale a couple weeks after the fest last year...early November. I caught a couple of the $75 ones. If I go press again this year I MIGHT have one for sale later at the early bird price...but it's too far out to know yet....

i did voodoo last year and was a bit let down. I guess it's hard to compare anything to roo.. and in my mind i was constantly comparing the two festys. PLUS.. it was my first time in NO - and i wanted to be out exploring the city.
BUt NO is a killer city - especially halloween weekend. Anything that gets you there then is worth it!
That is one good thing about VooDoo...you still have plenty of time to enjoy NOLA and all it's awesomeness! The festie is over usually by 11 which is JUST enough time to go change at the hotel and hit the Quarter for some great times! A late dinner and awesome shows are as much a part of VooDoo as anything else. I absolutely LOVE NOLA and anyone that has not experienced it....it is a must! ;D
^^^totally agree! Last year was our first time actually doing the late nite shows, and they were a blast. The last night, we went to the Dead Kenny G's late night (which was on Frenchmen St., not the Quarter), and with the people we were with ended up walking the streets with some sort of parade. It was the best time I've done Voodoo!! No matter the line-up, Voodoo is just a blast!

I'm trying to decide betweed doing Voodoo again this year or ACL. Any vets of both who would like to provide some insight into the pros/cons of each or an opinion about the matter?
We're all a mess of paradoxes. Believing in things we know can't be true. We walk around carrying feelings too complicated and contradictory to express. But when it all becomes too big, and words aren't enough to help get it all out, there's always music.

ACL kinda blows. I live in Austin and usually go to ACL and usually regret it. sets are all really short, and the park is way too crowded. This results in lots of conflicts. At Voodoo you can get around faster and see more acts. Also, the smaller acts at Voodoo(usually blues and jazz) are far more fun than the alt/country at ACl. Not too mention ACl got moved to september which in Austin is way hotter than Bonnaroo! New Orleans at Halloween has perfect weather.

That night was infamous!! The dancing pig float and all the cool peeps on the street! New Orleans makes for a PERFECT after party.

Were you one of the guys with Jigawig during the Dead Kenny G's? Lovelucklaughter, her brother and I were hanging out with him and his friends for a good portion of that show. It was so weird. We randomly met him the night before and then ran into his crew on Frenchmen St. before the show.

I have a good feeling about Voodoo this year. New Orleans is gonna go haywire this year, I can feel it! I hope Voodoo hits critical mass this year like in '07 for Rage and the Pumpkins. "The Battle of New Orleans", that was such a rough show!

i've done acl once, and it was great. done voodoo three times, and each time just got better. acl is only an hour and a half from me, while voodoo is a good eight and a half hour away. if i have to choose between the two, i will always choose voodoo. the fest is always fun, the city is amazing, the food incredible, the fun trolley ride to and from the fest (vs taking a cab to the park from where you're at for acl). yeah, i'll drive the distance for this city fest.
def fun hanging with loveluck, her bro, and friend. so weird how a random person at the friday nite afterparty, who neither of our groups knew, was able to bring us together. then the sunday nite walking towards frenchmen was totally just coincidental. if you all had not been wearing your pink wigs and helmets, i would not have done a double take, and realized who you all were!!!
