yeah the weather sucks up here in new england. i can't stand it. but atleast the other seasons beauty make up for it.
my gf and i saw a scientific research article awhile back about how your body adapts to certain climates and how it begins to withstand the climates physically. it said that with heat and strong high temperatures it takes about 2-3 weeks to fully adapt. but here's the kicker, for cold, extreme low temperatures the time that it took for your body to begin to adapt was about 2-3 years. so clearly your body isn't meant for cold climates lol. i wish i could find that article it was pretty interesting. it basically explained how cold temperatures affect us a lot differently than high temperatures and that our bodies are designed a lot better to withstand high heat rather than extreme cold. kinda makes sense though if you think about it. which leads me to my next point.
even if we do get super high temperatures next weekend it could be a lot worse. even if it was in the 70's and dropping to 40's at night would be worse imo. i'd take the heat over that anyday. imagine having to bundle up to go to Centeroo. people would be getting hypothermia cause they didn't have a proper place to sleep at. it would be a nightmare. let alone if the temperatures were lower. i think i'll take the heat over what would be the opposite.

I've been to a festival before where it snowed. It's not fun. People were starting camp fires everywhere because we needed to keep warm. That part was fun.
Sweet!!!! I was born and raised in South Cheektowaga. I miss home. Now I live at the beach in delaware...and it's not as much fun as one would think. Boring!!
My dad went to Kenmore West, Matt's mom went to Kenmore East, me and him went to West, and our kids will all go to Kenmore West.

With Accuweather, I've always noticed that their long-term forecast goes for extremes. More than anyone else, they show crazy cold and snow in the winter then crazy heat and storms in the summer when you're looking 10 days out.
I'm hoping the humidity won't be terribly high. A dry heat is much easier to deal with because your sweat is more effective.
"Walk tall, kick ass, learn to speak Arabic, love music and never forget you come from a long line of truth seekers, lovers and warriors" - Hunter S. Thompson
I figure it'll be close to as hot as last year. Low 90s seems expected.
However, I am just hoping the humidity isn't as remarkably brutal as it was last year. When overnight lows don't dip below 76, that is a really bad. If the dewpoint is below 70, I'll take that as better.
But, it's supposed to be in the 70s all week here... not as well adjusted as I'd like to be.
I was born and raised down south (Fayetteville/Ft. Bragg, NC to be specific) but have lived in NE Ohio for the last 15 years and you couldn't pay me enough money to move back down south. I just can't tolerate that heat anymore. My body has become so acclimated to the different seasons and lower temps that I can't deal with that high humidity and scorching heat.
After living in both places the conclusion I've come to is that even if it is 5 degrees and 12 inches of snow that IF you are wearing the right gear you will not be cold. It's not that bad and completely tolerable. People that come up north and complain about it being too cold outside aren't dressed properly.
Down south if you have a 95+ degree day with almost 100% humidity there is literally nothing you can do to get relief (short of going indoors). It doesn't matter how you are dressed....you could be naked in the shade and it is still miserable.
I just feel like my body can handle a 20 degree snowy day much better than a 95 degree high humidity day.
any suggestions on what to do if its raining when you get there/ when you want to put your tent up in tent city so you have space?
I'm bringing an UZ-Up so the first thing we will do if it rains bad is put that up, then if possible put the tent underneath if we need too. If not we will stay dry under it and wait it out. I have some serious stakes and ropes to tie it down..

Yes! Exactly! I can no longer hope for highs in the mid-80s, but I can still pray for lows that do not make me feel like I'm sleeping under water. I like the way you're thinking.
What's that AA line? Change what you can, fuck all the rest, and have the wisdom to know the difference? Something like that.
Dewpoints last year were in the mid to upper 70s. Being from the north, I hadn't seen anything like that until Roo last year. Up here it maybe gets to 72-73 tops, and thats rare.
Upper 60s, while still uncomfortable, would be much better than last year. It's still summer, just not as extreme.
EDIT: Looked up NWS, this is for the first couple days.
Wednesday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 69.
Thursday: A 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly sunny, with a high near 93.

I just wanted to throw out the fact that some of us are volunteers, so if you guys don't mind...could you include forecasts/pictures with Tues too? most of us check in then (unless pre-fest)

that is so interesting! i am from the CA desert (actually, a mile from coachella!) and after living in upstate ny for a year and colorado for four, i'd take extreme heat over extreme cold any day. i feel like i still haven't adapted fully to the cold.
here's hoping for some high temps to thaw me out from my painfully long upstate winter from hell...

i've lived in Cali, Tennessee, and now Rhode Island. the best weather was Cali. nice and warm all the time but never too hot or too cold really. Tennessee comes in second. i'm sorry, it doesn't matter how bundled up i am i cannot stand the cold. the way it bitch slaps your face like a pissed off pimp every time you walk out the door. the snow is horrendous. makes getting to work a freaking accomplishment in it's own. uh uh. no way. i'll take the heat over that any day. as for dealing with the heat, i prefer hopped up suds to help me get through the day. sitting around sweating drinkin beers by the pool > spending 3 hours digging your way to your car while your so bundled up you look like the stay puft man. i guess it really just boils down to the person and their preferences.

I really don't care what the temp is (of course I don't wanna pass out from the heat, lol). I just don't want it to be wet all weekend. Camping in the rain and being wet all day/night/weekend is really shitty.
A little shower here or there would be alright, and even welcomed, but please, no downpour.
yeah i agree with the above statement. i've been to the fest during years of torrential downpours and to me that's a bigger mess than just some heat. with the heat it's all about being responsible and making sure you hydrated. it sucks but you can always enjoy a little corn to kill the pain. but when it downpours there's nothing you can do about it and that place turns into a shitshow pretty fast with mud

Highs in the low 90s is staying steady the closer we get, with low percentages of rain. Thatrs great compared to last year. Right now in manchester it's 92 abnd feels like 95, which is what i would expect roo will be like. That's 10 degrees less than last year! It's 98 in nola today with heat index of 101 with bad humidity. Fuck going outside, it feels likeI'm back in the line to get into conans comedy tent
I wouldn't count on that rain. Last year's forecast was call for rain everyday and we got none. Unless you count the first 5 minutes of the Dead Weather set
I've spent most of the day outside today, high was 95 (felt like 98 or something crazy) and it was pretty rough... they wouldn't let my nephew's t-ball game continue the whole 90 mins because of the heat.
Another call for everyone to please stay hydrated! Remember, if you're not peeing often, you're not drinking enough water. Also rest when you feel like you need to rest, even if it means missing something you want to see.
i was outside all day today as well, push-mowing my yard and shoveling a huge pile of dirt...i was outside for about 6-7 hours, and it felt better than it has in the past 5 days...i live one county over from the farm, and wasn't bad at all...i went to town about 3:30 and i saw a sign that said it was 91...hope it's that way next week!

We're somewhat used to the heat, but a lot of people are not so we have to keep that in mind. Especially the folks that aren't below the Mason Dixon line.

Word. A friend from Knoxville is living in Wisconsin while his wife goes to grad school. He said people were complaining the other day because it was 80.
Indeed. As Karen said earlier in this thread, it was 47 degrees when she got up the other day!
I don't want people t think it's not going to be hot since we Southerner's are saying "It's not that bad outside" or "It won't be as bad as last year". It's still going to be HOT and everyone should be prepared to cope with 90 degree weather.

However its supposed to be in the low 80s up here before I head south. My work has no air conditioning, which helps, but still isn't proper conditioning for what's to come.
