Introduction In the small, friendly music community of Bonnaroo, a crafty Mafia have infiltrated the population. Every night these Mafiosi decide amongst themselves who to ruthlessly assassinate. At the beginning of each morning, people learn that one of their own has been killed.
Every day, the population gathers to discuss whom they think is a member of the Mafia. There is a vote, and the one with the majority is executed. The Townspeople must do this in order to clean Bonnaroo of the Mafia and restore its peaceful vibe. However, if the Mafia are able, through disrupting the votes and performing their assassinations, to eliminate Townspeople to the point that they are in the majority, they will rule Bonnaroo forever. Thus, the Townspeople's great hope is the Inspector. This is a secret figure, known only to him or herself, that has inside information on the identity of the Mafiosi. S/he can covertly use this information to influence the votes towards the Mafiosi. But s/he better watch his/her step, because if the Mafia gets wind it will be lights out. Good luck.
Rules
1) The referee randomly chooses from the 11 players three Mafiosi and one Inspector. All the rest are Townspeople. Each person is informed of their part via PM, and are not allowed to share that information with each other except in this thread, the official Mafia game thread. The Mafia are informed of one another's identity, and they are allowed to converse among themselves via PM.
2) The Inspector is informed of his/her part, and also of the identity of one randomly chosen Mafia player.
3) Each day a vote is held for the player to be eliminated. For online play, deliberation and voting is combined; thus, you can vote and explain yourself in the same post. Every player is free to change their vote at any point up until the last vote is in and the Ref declares that voting is closed. The ref will then post the final tally, and announce which player is eliminated and how they died. Then will begin the following night.
4) During the night the Mafia decide on the player they want to eliminate (assassinate), and inform the ref via PM. Once the ref receives this info, it is posted here in the thread, the player is eliminated, and the following day begins.
5) Likewise during the night the Inspector will PM the ref and guess one person who is the Mafia. The ref will respond with a 'yes' or 'no'.
6) Play continues until all the Mafia have been killed (Townspeople win), or the Mafia outnumber the Townspeople (Mafia win).
7) It will not be revealed, until the end of the game, when a Mafia player or the Inspector have been eliminated.
8) AKA The Bek Rule: Players who have been eliminated are still welcome to post in this thread, but are asked to not say anything leading to any knowledge, suspicions or opinions you might have.
9) It is recommended, though not required, that players submit death stories to the referee for the deaths chosen by their roles. Mafia write their own Nighttime whack stories; a Townsperson writes Daytime voted-off stories.
10) AKA The kdogg Rule: There will be no sharing of role PM's inside the thread or outside for the purpose of disclosing your role to another player. This also goes for password sharing. Common sense should be used, no discussion of your roles, except between the mafia, outside the thread- EVER.
11) Voting will be open for 36 hours each round, or until everyone has cast their vote - whichever comes first. Voting will never follow the 36-hour rule on the weekends. I will only ever close voting on a Saturday or Sunday if everyone has cast their vote already. If you haven't voted by that time, your vote will not be counted. If you miss two votes, you are out of the game regardless of how good your reason is. When it is decided that you are out, you will be killed off during the day alongside whoever would have been killed by vote.
12) NO WHINING!

Quick 'real-life' update.. Quackers daughter totalled her car last night (A-hole pulled out in front of her) in VT coming home after her last exam for the semester at UVM. Thankfully she was released from the ER, is ok, but really battered. He went to get her - a bit of a haul from here. He is expected home late tonight and no doubt will catch up as quickly as possible with the game.
Sorry to hear about that. Hope for a speedy recovery. Absolutely no rush, real life obviously take priority over our internet game. Also voting will never close on a weekend.

Thank you for the update fawnmart! I'm glad she is OK, I hope for a speedy recovery and a smooth dealing with the insurance companies. Sending good vibes your way.
We're all a mess of paradoxes. Believing in things we know can't be true. We walk around carrying feelings too complicated and contradictory to express. But when it all becomes too big, and words aren't enough to help get it all out, there's always music.
Hi All, Thanks for all the well wishes for my daughter. She's relatively fine, just shaken up and a little sore. Her airbag deployed and that was what bruised her the most which is how it's supposed to be. It sucks that she's 3 1/2 hours away when shit like that happens because you want to beam yourself right by her side. My son lives up there too so he was able to get to her in the ER quickly. Ironically, she now wears the "mark of Nissan" because the raised logo on the steering column smacked her in the forearm. It looks a little cultish.
Back to the game where it looks to me like I have not much to hope for. (And yes, I am beefing this post up for extra words because Kdogg needs some competition.) I see what looks to be three voting partnerships established and perhaps two TBD. And only EAP, Kdogg and myself are unscathed right now two of the unscathed have already voted for people who weren't scathed before. So I think I'm going out and I might as well go out with a bang and hope that my vote stirs up some activity that keeps my neck from the garotte for a bit longer. BTW, this is what my real-life Mafia acquaintances tell me is the right move.
Quacker - I'm very sorry to hear about your daughter's accident, but I am relieved to hear she's relatively okay; I will be keeping you all in my thoughts and sending positive vibes in your direction.
Quacker, I'm glad to hear your daughter is doing ok. I will keep her in my thoughts.
To the game: you know you are putting me in a scenario to be voted off. I had a voting arrangement with Sarah (you can see Mike D and my conversation about it on the last page of the previous Mafia thread), so I have done nothing suspicious. I guess there is no point in saying that I am a Towny since that is what everyone would say at this point in the game, but I AM A TOWNY! I have played three games at this point (one as towny, one as mafia, one as inspector) and the only thing that has reigned true through all three is a Towny gets voted off in the first round every time. I know Kdogg was mafia in the last game, but maybe he was right in one thing he said: We need to have more than two people in the runoff for the first round voting.
Bacon, when is the voting being closed? I am going to have to change my vote to make sure there is a runoff if no one else gets voted into one with me, but I would like to wait to see how the voting goes before I do so.
Also, quacker, what do you mean when you say "this is what my real-life Mafia acquaintances tell me is the right move"? I'm just wondering why the early vote for me.
Haha. Just trying to get some chat going so I could try to get some insight into who's doing what and why. Things were a little too quiet. It's interesting that Kdogg's response was so short but that might be because his internship is taking up all his time. SFA and LLL are barely moving their lips except to kiss.
Hmmm. Capn Jack is doing exactly what I expected so I'm going to change my vote to even everything off.
SFA and LLL are barely moving their lips except to kiss.
Heheheh. I have a loud mouth, but this approach seemed to work for me last game. Mafia seem to out themselves eventually, so I'm sitting back, analyzing, watching and waiting for them to slip. Don't worry though, the mouth will get to flapping by next round!
We're all a mess of paradoxes. Believing in things we know can't be true. We walk around carrying feelings too complicated and contradictory to express. But when it all becomes too big, and words aren't enough to help get it all out, there's always music.
well of course I am voting for kdogg but I really hope someone considers changing their vote so that we can get a run off...
I'm considering it because I don't think we should just vote Kdogg off. I'm just not sure who I would chose. I hate the very beginning of the game. It's so easy to make a mistake and vote off an innocent.
It's interesting that Kdogg's response was so short but that might be because his internship is taking up all his time.
Could it be because kdogg doesn't have any inside knowledge as to what's going on? Or maybe that first rounds are slow in general? What, exactly, have I done? My response was so short because my knowledge is limited. Furthermore, as a Townsperson I have no guarantee I won't die at night. I would rather mention a small point like this in hopes that it may be helpful later, because I know I'm not safe from dying overnight. Suspect me all you want, but be advised there's still three Mafia out there to be found.
Now... what have you done? You received zero votes. Mafia don't want attention. You were the one steering NoAge towards death (or at least a runoff) with your initial vote. Townspeople don't act in concert when the fog of war is this heavy. You are the one making the vote change. I know I made my statement that Bek would return my vote before you cast your vote for me. You can't claim ignorance there, this was an informed decision on your part.
Look, it's your first game, so I'm tempted to go easy on you. I've been down this path before; I've theorized and ranted on the subject of how my Townsperson self gets put into runoffs, and I dare say my theory was close enough to bring out again for some fine-tuning. You want to give me that chance, be my guest...
I'm warning you that your voting behavior places you square in the crosshairs of this theory.
Are you going to change your vote, or am I going to have to turn it up to eleven on you?
Ditto SFA. I was just reading the tea leaves and there weren't that many so I'm not surprised to see Bek voting Kdogg. It was going to come down to whomever I said whether I voted before Bek or after so I'll be bummed if Kdogg is a towny. So since I know I'm a towny I know that the worst I'll be doing is voting another towny off, but I would like to use the most convincing evidence I can that the person I vote for is one of the bad guys.
Noage: I'm trying to read into the fact that your post was first. Are you the inspector trying to guide us to vote Sarah off right off the bat? Or are you just going with your preset voting partnership? You say you're a towny (we call them Townies here in RI as in East Providence Townie) and I was going to do the same thing but I knew noone would believe it.
SFA: Are you feigning naivete that people from RI are well-versed in Mafia customs? Did you realize that LLL gave you a smack with her vote? Do you know what people in RI would think about that kiss or that vote?
Well, I'm leaning to idea that SFA is naive and LLL is a ruthless femme fatale eliminator but I can't change anything because I have the second vote.
well of course I am voting for kdogg but I really hope someone considers changing their vote so that we can get a run off...
I think my instinct would be to put quacker into a runoff right now, but if I change my vote to him, it does no good. I think a runoff is a good idea. Like SFA, I don't know who's best to put in the runoff, but a runoff is going to be a lot more telling than just having kdogg voted off.
Bek, I think you are voting for kdogg because he's your regular voting partner and you don't have a lot of good options, but I'm not sure of a better way to go for a runoff than putting the person in who put in the first person. (Too much beer to say this better.)
NBF >>> jhammett >>> superbek
(I also hope someone additional changes his/her vote to get at least a third person into the runoff, and preferably a fourth.)
