I totally agree, they've made a few truly classic albums, but as a live band... man. Plus, they are more all over the place than they were during their peak.
I've seen them twice, and both times their sound as a live band overwhelmed their theatrics. I just don't hear what you're hearing I guess.
There's a bunch of garbage I don't like on the lineup, but Tangerine Dream, Suicide, and Adrien Belew have me sold. Seriously? That's quacking perfect.
But, god damn, can Flips just go away for a few years?
Just curious, besides Flips, who else on the lineup qualifies as garbage you don't like?
Also, The Lips are too close to my heart for me to really talk shit about them, but it seems like they're playing every fest known to man this year. And they are an awesome live band musically IMO.
STS9, Passion Pit, Umphree's McGee, Crystan Castles. Flips isn't even garbage I don't like, they're a band whose albums I like but live show not so much, simple as that.
These things are all subjective, y'all... maybe "a bunch" was an overstatement, because the more I look at it, I'm more excited about this lineup than any so far this year.
Holy fuck, just checked out that band Brandt Brauer Frick. Fucking amazing minimalist techno that is apparently created using almost exclusively live instruments. Highly suggest you guys check 'em out.
This is the first message board I've ever been on, the only reason I joined is because I love Bonnaroo and wanted to read and talk about it all year long.
Last year they had shows in 5 venues. Shows started at roughly 4 or 5 in the afternoon and ran into in the AM.
Each venue has a separate capacity and can fill up forcing you to go to another venue. I never had it happen but I heard horror stories about trying to get into Four Tet at a 1000 person capacity club. The trick is to just get there early.
All venues are mo more than a 10 minute walk from Asheville Civic Center/Thomas Wolfe Auditorium to the Orange Peel (the two furthest venues on a map)
This is the current map.
This year there is no Stella Blue or the Moogaplex, thus far, and new theater located on Biltmore & Patton called the Diana Wartham.
I think they sold 11k tickets last year but I maybe wrong on that.
I think I've pretty much decided to go with this as my fest of the year.
Really, this is a solid quacking lineup. I hate that I missed last year, I really do... I hated missing Massive Attack, Big Boi, Carribou, and Jonsi... I was also really looking forward to Devo, and I was interested in Van pier Parks, Bonobo, seeing Neon Indian again, and Shpongle....
However, having Suicide, Tangerine Dream, Adrian Belew, Hans-Joachim Roedelins, as well as some solid acts in Battles, MC8, Toro Y Moi, and Flaming Lips (yes, I would go if there was nothing else), among others, makes this a pretty sure-fire thing, for me
I absolutely love Suicide and Tangerine Dream.. if these two were on the Bonnaroo lineup, I'd have a much more difficult time not going this year... that's how great this initial looks to me.

My time at Moogfest last year rivaled any experience I've had at other city festivals (not in terms of lineup quality, but city and atmosphere), excluding Vegoose. I was already planning on making this my fall festival before I saw the lineup, but now it's solidified.
M83!?! I've been trying to see M83 forever! Plus Battles will be there. They killed it at roo a few years back and Lolla that year, too. I'm excited for their new album next week, too. Plus I'm also excited to see Holy F-uck, Twin Shadow, STS9, Crystal Castles, Toro y Moi, and Ghostland.
I understand that the Flaming Lips play a lot of festivals these days, but I think that people are taking it the wrong way. I don't think they're trying to saturate the market, but instead are trying to help out a lot of smaller festivals. What I don't understand is people saying their live show isn't good, even if it isn't their favorite. That seems like outright denial that the Flaming Lips have changed the concert experience. If you think they haven't, you need to watch their documentary The Fearless Freaks.
Plus, headliners aren't unopposed at Moog, so you can go see someone else if you want.
Hoping some of these acts make it to Bonnaroo in 2012, this year we got Big Boi, Pretty Lights, Girl Talk, Sleigh Bells, Dam Funk, Omar Souleyman, School of Seven Bells, and Shpongle.

Yesssssssss. So excited to see them on the lineup.
For their Moogfest performance, Vega and Rev will be performing Suicide’s 1977 self-titled debut in its entirety for only the fourth – and likely last – time. From the opening, buzzsaw chug of “Ghost Rider” to the 10-minute epic “Frankie Teardrop” (often labeled one of the spookiest songs ever recorded; and well, it is), Suicide set the standard for all electronic-influenced musicians to aspire to. In a weekend full of musical highlights and do-not-miss moments, this one tops the list.
Saw this on their bio and I can now say this absolutely tops my list. Suicide as an album is one of my favorites ever.

Thanks for this. I went ahead and reserved a room today there. This was as cheap as you are going to find in walking distance. At first I thought I was going to have to convince a few others to chip in one one of the more expensive hotels at between $850 and $1000 for the three night stay, but this was only $333.
On a different note, Moogfest 2010 was great. The set-up is as good as you can expect an indoor festival to have and the city is gorgeous.
The lineup this year is not as heavy hitting as last year's with Massive Attack, but there are some gems that aren't appearing at every other festival. Tim Hecker for one is worth it for me.
Awesome news. It's gonna go quick, I assure you. You'll be glad you did.
Also Thanks to karosko & thisismyname. I checked out Brandt Brauer Frick and I keep asking myself "How Did I not know about this?". Thats some beautiful stuff.

I guess I should feel quite privileged, then, that I got to The Orange Peel approximately 30 minutes before Four Tet's started and got in ;D
Absolutely one of the highlights of the festival. Just an amazingly talented DJ, he really brought his songs to life.
Moogfest last year was just an inordinate amount of fun. I can't imagine an indoor city fest being run any smoother or being any more fun. Like Garage said, you do want to get there AT LEAST a half hour early for the big Orange Peel sets you have your eye on (speaking of which, I reeeally hope they don't stick M83 in the OP for some odd reason), but I didn't hear one word about people not being able to get into sets at the ACC or Thomas Wolfe Auditorium. Arguably the most talked-about show of the weekend, Jonsi at Thomas Wolfe Aud, wasn't even three-quarters of the way full, nor was Hot Chip at the same venue.
And Asheville is quite possibly the most beautiful, friendly, awesome mountain town in the country. Heaven on Earth.

Any recommendations on Tim Hecker, sanjuro?
Check out his newest one, Ravedeath, 1972. Great ambient music.

I'm not being facetious, I'm just curious--do you mean M83 instead of MC8? Or is that an acronym I'm not thinking of?
Also, you should check out Four Tet's There Is Love In You. He was at Moog last year; I think you'd love it.
Supposed they emailed the password to you if you got tickets last year. I unfortunately have switched emails since then. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Do this, and then check out Radio Amor. All of it's good, though. I'm so glad he's going to be there, I've never seen him live.
