I went from, ready to buy tickets to both weekends, to completely dejected once I processed it all. Had this happened in 2010, would I be wondering which Fever Ray set was better? No thanks. I hold the single performance as special and unique. That those that were there, were blessed in being on the Polo Fields, getting to see this once in a lifetime performance. Knowing that is would happen a week later at "Coachella 2" would have been so lame.

The weird thing to me is that they're having the same exact acts, art, and other stuff both weekends. Why they wouldn't try to have different acts seems odd to me. Hardcore fans will go for sure.......but the only big advantage I see of this is being able to choose which weekend works better for you.

I don't see how they can expect the same bands to perform 2 weekends in a row. Seems like an odd structure with bands having to tour to make money. The upside I guess would be if you were wanting to attend both weekends you could do away with some of those horrible conflicts.
This is a strange development indeed. I can't imagine they'd be able to get all the acts to do both weekends. Unless they've started tryin' to get them booked already and have it in the contract that the bands/artists must play both weekends. But I also feel that this kinda cheapens the experience. Granted I've never been to Coachella, but I'd feel the same way if Bonnaroo did this. Whatever, we'll see in a year how it works out fer Goldenvoice and fans of the festival.

If they allow them to play nearby shows during the time inbetween it would make sense for the bands.......but then it might hurt ticket sales for the fest. dunno how this will work.
i think it is weird, but if i go, i'm planning on going the first weekend. things will be cleaner etc.
what i like even less than the two weekends is the fact that tickets are already going on sale. basically a year in advance?? way too early. and i'm pretty sure it says this will be the only time to buy payment plan. so i guess i'll pick up my ticket and then i can always sell it in case.

Bleh.
I'm guessing the first weekend will sell out more quickly... so as much as I hate this news I may just buy a ticket for insurance. If the lineup isn't up to my liking hopefully I can dump it for face value.
You do realize that Coachella fully expects to sell 150k tickets? Obviously they're not gambling with a multi-million dollar operation. Lineup will be huge.
Also F your "special moment" that you won't get because 75,000 extra people were able to spend the same $315 you did. We're all hoi-polloi here.
Their goal is to sell some 150k tickets. There's no sayin' they will sell out both weekends of their festival. I imagine the first weekend will sell out, but who can say fer sure? They're takin' a big gamble that could turn out insanely well fer them, but it could also do the opposite. Scalpers fer sure will drive up ticket sales, but will it work out in the end? We shall see in the comin' months.
This is a dumb idea. Having the same schedule & bands is one of the most retarded ideas I've ever heard. Why would you do that? Probably gonna have a "same setlist" clause for the artists.
Bands want to tour, and get good paydays off of fests, they don't wanna take 2+ weeks out of their tour for some dumbass Cali experiment
Probably gonna have a "same setlist" clause for the artists.
I think the bands will be given flexibility to change up their setlists for each weekend. This will definitely be incentive for those with the dough to pair attendance.
This does not seem like a good idea to me at all, but time will tell. I was thinking of doing Coachella next year but I think I will wait another year to see how this works out.

In a Billboard interview, the guy said he wasn't looking for anyone to only play one weekend. I'm sure there will end up being a few, but the goal is clearly for EVERYONE to play both weekends.
My prediction: This won't be a disaster, but it won't be back in 2013 either.

This. I think after they give it a try next year it will be the only time. It just seems like a terrible idea....so strange to me still.

I dont think they like to do shows where they fly around the world for just one stop. In this case, they would be flying in for two consecutive weekends, and enough time to do at least a brief tour of the western states. That would seemingly make it an environmentally efficient trip for them.
ugh Im torn. Im in the waiting room now using the waiting time to debate if I really even want to go next year. Thinking I could jsut get a ticket for weekend 1 and see it if I decide its not for me
i was thinking about putting the 1st weekend on payment plan, but it is just too soon i think for me to be able to commit. plus, this year was awesome b/c we ended up having a school holiday that friday, but neither weekends fall on the holiday next year. we shall see.
also, not sure about thom living out there. i'm sure he "lives" in multiple places. i have a friend getting her graduate degree in bristol/oxford and she saw thom out and about the other day buying groceries.
i think everyone is waiting on bated breath for radiohead to commit to another fest.
