If the lineup was AMAZING I would probably buy a ticket and figure out the logistics later
I have a terribly strong gut feeling coachella will be ridiculously amazing and manage to book every act I could possibly want to see this year.
If this happens I will toy with the idea of putting the whole trip on credit an paying it off over the summer- that's the only way i could make it work

I was certain that I wasn't going back to Coachella this year. If the lineup is really incredible I'll probably figure it out, especially since Roo is paid for. I feel a little better about having Radiohead tickets for ATL but I did have a great time last year and the rumors for this year are pretty enticing. Differently than Roo I'll have to wait until lineup day to decide.
Yeah, the line up will drop in January. Which holy shit is way closer than I had realized! Radiohead fills my headliner need. Getting Bjork or another headliner I like would just be a bonus. I'm thinking they are going balls out for their 2 weekend experiment. That said, I don't expect a dream line up, but at least on the level of 2010.
If MMJ is there (which really they have to be right?) plus at least 4-5 other bands I really want to see I imagine it might just happen. We will see, we will see.

I have a feeling radiohead will be there. Which is a huge huge huge plus, but not a deal sealer since I get to see them anyways in Feb. The Bjork rumors are what really have me going. Homogenic is once of my all time favorite albums. And I've never had the opportunity to see her live, and somehow I don't think I'll have the opportunity any time soon. I never thought of MMJ being there. Can't ever see them live too many times.
If they manage to book the above aforementioned acts, and maybe some rarer live acts I'm dying to see, like How to Destroy angels or Crosses, I'd flip out and pretty much NEED to go somehow.
For now I'm just going to wait for the line-up. Then the Bonnaroo lineup for comparison (I can only do either-or). Then I'll make a decision

I don't want to jinx it, but with Radiohead announcing the Mexico date, in the middle April, in between both weekends, nearly confirms them. Bjork at Lolla Chile is not nearly as much of a confirmation, but it seems promising.
If the line up is as stacked as we all hope, I'd say both weekends will be sold out by the time Roo announces...

Week 2 won't sell out as fast as week 1.
From what I've read on the coach board by a well-respected/in the know poster, week one was close to selling out in that one week window it went on sale months ago.
Eh, not here to hash a debate, but I also heard weekend one is almost sold out pre-sale. Based on the scalper prices and what people were paying last year, I think the demand for the second weekend is pretty high. Coachella is a scene or the place to be for a lot of people in Cali, as much as it is a festival. I'm not saying it will sell out the same day, but getting a ticket/camping pass in early to mid February seems like a roll of the dice.

I've always wanted to go to Coachella. My friend who lived nearby graduated (Harvey Mudd- it's pretty close) and moved, though. Plus it always falls right before finals. And it's expensive to fly to Cali.
Now, however, it's not as expensive. Frontier airlines just started flying out of Knoxville. For weekend 1 (which is possibly far enough in advance of finals for me to go, unlike week 2), it's not bad. Knoxville to Orange County, Thursday to Monday, is currently $448.80 with tax. Knoxville to LAX is $310. 79 right now. That's super cheap. And it includes 2 free bags. I assume there are Coachella shuttles and everything, too.
If the lineup is good enough, I may go. It also hinges on who will be there that's not at Roo. hopefully it doesn't sell out before the Roo lineup drops.

Didn't it sell out in like a few days last year? I know there's two weekends now, but I really feel like some of you are getting your hopes up in assuming (hoping) it doesn't sell out too quickly.

I was thinking overall Coachella wouldn't cost me more than lollapallooza. But the ticket + camping pass and roundtrip airfare alone pretty much comes out to the total amount I spent for my entire trip at Lolla.
Methinks I'm gonna just plan to save up money over this next year and make it to Coachella 2013

I really couldn't give over how much cleaner and nicer the overall aesthetic of the festival was when I went. And from all accounts, 2010 was the worst year to go, and they've really improved since.
Also the sound is so much better. It makes a big difference.
Pardon my ignorance, but since Coachella is going to 2 weekends this year does that mean two weekends of completely different lineups, like Jazz Fest, or is it going to be two weekends of the same lineups?

Likewise. I found 2010 to be an absolute paradise.

people are probably gonna be mad at me for saying this, but i would much rather go to coachella now than bonnaroo. the fact that it was so much cleaner, the weather was soooooo much better (really this is the hugest selling point for me...i am from south texas and 2010 bonnaroo almost made me pass out several times), the free showers, the nicer camping....it just really made for a more relaxed time for me, which ended up being a better time. plus, i'm not gonna lie, i am more hipster than hippie and the crowd fit me way better.
i also am thanking the coachella gods for having a general store that had nice camping equipment in it, b/c my buddy who was supposed to bring our tent ended up leaving it on the conveyer belt at the airport. they ended up selling him a 3 person tent for 25 bucks. they totally saved us.

ugh. i don't know. i don't think i can. we get two fridays off in april (one for easter and one for fiesta-a citywide celebration) and they just happened to be NEITHER of the two weekends. boooooooo
i'd have to take four days off from work and that would require pre-approval from the district (or a doctor's note). my principal is super cool but i doubt the district would say that i could take four days off unless i could think of a pretty legit excuse.
(don't be too sad yet, you might have to be my wonderful host again for comic con )

The weather at Coachella made a huge difference. We were actually a bit cold the first night this year. The two festivals are night and day as far as I'm concerned. Coachella has a much better environment, they have kick ass technology, there is noticeable art and you can listen to music open to close without dying. Bonnaroo has better music, is a better party and you might literally die if you try to listen to music from open to close. If I lived anywhere near Coachella I'd be there every year until I died. I think I have a shelf life at Bonnaroo, albeit quite a long one.
