The upgraded sites aren't really necessary if you're tent camping. There are bathrooms and showers and running water available to everyone, just not right at your campsite. That said, you could fit several tents at one site if people wanted to share. I don't know what the upgrade costs, I always just do the primative camping.

Only reason I'd do the upgrade is for electric to keep my cell charged. But I suspect with metro POS I won't get any reception out there anyways so it's pointless
Charging your phone shouldn't be a big issue. Find an empty site and plug in, or make friends with someone at an electric site. You might be able to plug in in the music hall or one of the other buildings. There are even a few random outlets inside the concert area if you look hard enough. I remember seeing some by the porch stage.

Nice! You should convince JD and Gene to come down as well.

Seriously. What's a festival without a pterodactyl?

laggy- metro worked fine for me during the pow wow you'll have no trouble unless your phone itself gets bad reception... Upgrade for pow wow was $50 per person min 4 people, but i got mine thrown in with the tickets i bought from somebody that couldn't go... a Honda generator, one of the quiet ones is just $26 a day to rent i think i will just do that. Although with running water right at your campsite, a kiddie pool is a great addition for those hot days...
I am in for primitive camping. No need for electric and running water for me Also, I am leaving for the desert in two weeks and will then be gone for two weeks. If someone wants to get Infowater 2001 organized, please do. I will be at SoS early Wednesday, before Noon, and will help with land grab and infrastructure, but I am not to keen on organizing. I will if nobody wants to, but if someone is a good organizer and wants to take that on, please do.

How much organizing will really be required? I mean unless we want to organize a brunch or something along those lines. I think the only important/difficult part will be finding eachother and meeting up once there. I've never been there so I have no idea where we should go and/or how it will work.
Let's just start with this: Who is in for camp infowater?
I am in. When I meant organizing, just getting everyone's number and such, who do we need to save room for or how much room do we need to save? I see no need for a brunch, once we are there we could have an impromptu meet-n-greet, but not needed. Laggy, I was just wanting someone to step up and you did . Like I said, I can help with land grab and I will be there Wednesday before noon. I work the night before, when I get off work at 8am, I will need to drive home and pack some last minute things(coolers, ice, beer, and such), I want to leave my house in Ocala by 10am. I am just under 2 hours from SoS. If someone wants to get there before then and grab a spot, that would be cool as well. Anybody who has been to SoS before, could help out with choosing a spot, any suggestions?. Although there are some open grass lots, most camping is in the woods, I am not sure how much the "woods" will be filled by noon on Wednesday. If we are too big and unable to find a spot in the trees or if those woods are filled up, then there is plenty of room in the back lot, I think it is lot "E",(I camped here for Wanee) either way, any where we camp it is about a walk from Camp Inforoo to Centeroo, not far at all.
With landmarks and such it is not to hard to find things/campsites

Ok well my friends who may be going pretty much aren't deciding til the very last minute so I'm gonna go ahead and plan to camp with you guys definitely, and if they come I'll try and get them to join us.
I don't know the layout at all but if we can camp under some trees in shade that sounds like it would be fantastic, but I'm down for anything that works. I'm not worried about the walk. If some of you who have been there can lay out some suggestions it would be much appreciated.
For now lets just figure out who's in, and where we want to try to camp. then closer to the fest we can PM eachother and exchange phone numbers, etc
After looking at some maps, this one is for Wanee (<---click it), but same place. This map shows the layout, it might be more confusing than good, but it does give you a general layout. The empty area with the bat and drums is the open lot I was talking about(below Rees lake) and up above that, little to the left is Lot "E"(I think it was lot E, but I could be wrong on the name). It is more open with scattered trees. It is left of the Peach Stage, then you see the police man, a truck, some translucent geometric shapes, the one with the blue line is upgrades, and the large geometric shape next to the curved red line is the back lot, Lot "E". The rest of camping is in the woods, in the trees. For Wanee, I got there around 4pm and the open lots were the only spots available, for Bear Creek I got there later and I found camping directly behind the the Mushroom stage(what it is called at Wanee), I should say Amphitheater. Wanee was like 20,000 people and Bear Creek was closer to 7,000 people, so that had an impact on finding a spot. I think Blackwater will be like Wanee.
Scrog - I think maybe you were camped near me for Bear Creek last year. If you took your first left after heading out from the amphitheater stage and headed down the road kind of behind that stage, that's were I was. I think that would be a good place to try to set up camp. There was plenty of room to camp back there. Late arrivers may have to drop their gear and park somewhere else, however. There is no way Blackwater will be as big as Wanee. Last year I think it was closer to the size of Bear Creek. The fest doesn't start until Thursday, so you should be able to snag a good plot of land on Wednesday. I'm still about 50/50 on being able to go, so I can't really say when I'd be able to get there, or if I can help grab real estate.
Chefchick, you are correct I was camped up the road from you, I think, Dale had mentioned you were somewhere down that way. You have taken the words out of my mouth. I was going to start right behind the Amphitheater and drive around from there. I was thinking with the bigger names that Blackwater would be bigger like Wanee, but glad to hear we are looking more like the Bear Creek numbers. Good point about dropping off supplies and parking somewhere else. Damn, I am getting excited. One day off, then one more day of work, a weekend in RI, then two weeks to Black Rock City and back, then Blackwater will only be a few weekends away! (shit!, I just thought about that, in other words, I have go to work only 10 more times until Blackwater! Fuck-Yeah! ) I think I am going to start a camp menu,
. There is no way Blackwater will be as big as Wanee. Last year I think it was closer to the size of Bear Creek.
In my eyes this years lineup looks bigger than last years though. Flaming Lips-STS9-Girl Talk-Eoto-Ghostland Observatory-Buckethead Just an impressive top of the lineup for a festival like this. It may or may not be as big as Wanee but regardless I suspect it will be alot bigger compared to last year.
Last year had Michael Franti, Slightly Stoopid, STS9, Disco Biscuits, & Galactic. Franti and Slightly Stoopid are actually pretty popular. I think it will be bigger than last year, but it won't be 20k people. Regardless of the turnout, it's going to be a fun weekend. The park is beautiful, and there is plenty of nice wooded camping.
^so true about SoS! I love that place. Even with Wanee numbers(I guessed at 20K) it still was not "packed", very comfortable it was.
on another note, I just got this from the Bear Creek on FB.
Hard to believe but Suwannee County has voted for progress, economic growth and freedom. The county has voted to go WET. You will now be able to buy a bottle of wine with dinner in Live Oak, or have a shot of whiskey at your favorite music festival. Congratulations to all that worked so hard to make this possible. Looking forward to buying you a drink.
"Bottoms up!" Yes, the park has a bar and a convenience store(reasonably priced)
You can bring whatever you want into the campground. No outside beverages (except water, of course) inside the concert venue. It's fairly easy to sneak the drinks in. And it's also a short walk back to camp to grab another round.

the search for pow wow was literally nonexistent as far as camping, but i dunno if it's like that for all events. The search going into the venue itself was pretty non-invasive, and the girl doing it didn't know that Vodka is available in plastic 35 ml pouches, so let me in even after seeing them all in my pack... Also, perhaps goes without saying, I am in for blackwateroo. Plus 1 at least, but hoping to bring a crew... Also laggy, thats a badass avatar pic. meant to say something before...

The car search at Wanee was also pretty nonexistent as far as security searches go. I pulled up in a pickup filled with gear in the cab and bed, they asked me if I had any beer. That was all.

says nothing on the website about not bringing beer or liquor, or even limiting the amounts, IMO you'll have no problems. But i promise to bring enough beer to share if the unthinkable happens lol
I thought I saw somewhere that they don't allow kegs. Other than that, bring whatever you want. And as of this week, it's a wet county, and it sounds like they will be selling wine and liquor on site as well as beer.
