We're all a mess of paradoxes. Believing in things we know can't be true. We walk around carrying feelings too complicated and contradictory to express. But when it all becomes too big, and words aren't enough to help get it all out, there's always music.

The water and the dust could have been handled better. Let's not go too far in worshiping Bonnaroo just because we disagree with certain individuals currently posting here.

What could they have done about the dust that wouldn't have been a pretty considerable waste of water (going against the Roo conservation ideology)? Just curious

I highly doubt that running the water trucks though enough times to muddy up the roads a bit would not put any bigger dent in the ozone than running all the electricity to all of the stages for several days.

This was my third Bonnaroo, and probably my least favorite of the three - but I think that has more to do with my infatuation and belief that Bonnaroo can do absolutely no wrong starting to wane than this year actually being less fun. That and some of my group didn't handle the heat very well and that was kind of scary...
When it all comes down to it, it's still Bonnaroo - so still amazing in my book.

This was my worst time out of the 9 I've been to, but that had more to do with the people I went with, huge crowds, and my lack of energy than anything else.

This was probably my favorite bonnaroo out of the 5 based solely on the quality of the shows that i saw. I also saw every late night that I wanted to see (a first for me). I had my mind blown so many times this year. I believe I wept at least 6 times. My only complaint that I have is the ridiculous searches I was subjected to and the fair amount of jerks that I encountered up front at a few shows. Overall just about perfect
if you didnt have a good time it was probably your fault. i was sort of let down because i was expecting huge things, tenth anniversary and all but guess what? still had an AMAZING time. and i learned new things to be prepared for next year.
its all in the attitude. yes there are things to be improved on at the farm and every year they DO. there are also things we can do every year to make sure everyone around us has a great time. and every year i make sure that *i* do.
Its certainly possible to expect too much, but this is bonnaroo, not woodstock, so ill forgive.
Woodstock is overhyped boomer nostalgia bullshit. Bonnaroo, for all its failings, is far better. Better bands. Better organized. Better crowd. Woodstock can suck my balls.

I felt like this year was actually not as crowded as last year...yes I know it sold out this year but just seemed to be slammed at every show last year.
Overall, pretty much the same as past years. Some things much improved (Hey did everyone get a booklet this year, they ran out THURSDAY MORNING in years past!!!!) and some things still need work but hey, at least they are trying. No one FORCES you to go to Bonnaroo. I love when people complain to no end about how terrible it is on the farm EVERY YEAR and yet they KEEP COMING BACK!!!!
The definition of insanity is to keep doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result. Some may want to remember that.

uh...better bands...REALLY? some from the 99 lineup: Rage Against the Machine, DMX, The Offspring, Wyclef Jean, Metallica, The Red Hot Chilli Peppers, moe, Mike Ness, EverClear, Bush, Sheryl Crow, Elvis Costello, MegaDeath, Chemical Bros, Perry Ferrell, FatBoy Slim, Korn, and too many others to name...Think about where these bands were in 1999...compare them to the bands at Bonnaroo.
I was at Woodstock 99. Yes it was not very well organized from the vendors and security standpoint, but the lineup was IMO one of the best and stacked lineups ever.
This is not even considering 94 when they had Rollins Band, Mellissa Etheridge, The Band, The Allman Bros and Nine Inch Nails...

Ah, fuck it. To say Bonnaroo sucked as a general blanket statement is ridiculous. Yes, it may have sucked for any particular individual, but come on. Unless there is a major failure or the farm is engulfed in a wildfire or a tornado, saying it sucked for everyone is a tough argument to make.
Quality of lineup? Subjective. Quality of attendees? Subjective. Quality of general execution vs. your expectation of a 10th year anniversary blowout? Subjective. Someone sets off a dirty nuke at Pod 3? Near universal suckage for everyone in attendance.
Each of us experiences it differently. Pondo felt like it was less crowded than last year. I felt like the crowds were far worse. Did anyone see the Mumford and Sons crowd? Holy lord, it was back all the way to the beer tent.
Some felt like the water lines were longer. I saw some lines comparable to last year, but moved on to the next water station (of which there were definitely more) and never stood in line longer than 10 minutes to fill up my camelback. There were other places to get water than just the mushroom looking things, and none of it was sulfur-y.
I got put in the trees a 10 minute walk from the arch. Some people got put way back in stewie griffin where the walk was 45 minutes, and taxis didn't run very often.
And now I'm mad at myself for adding to the length of this thread... :-)
I have seen a lot of complaining, particularly on the Bonnaroo facebook page, and it blows my mind. There are obviously aspects of Bonnaroo that could be improved, but nothing significant enough to interfere with the amazing time I'm having. This may have been my first Roo, but I had the time of my life and I can't imagine anyone not having a good time. I feel like you must have done something horribly wrong to quack up Bonnaroo.
My pros and cons of Bonnaroo 2011. This was our 5th (06, 07, 08, 09 and 11) and of the 5, I have to say this was the one that I was the most "meh" about.
PROS:
Access Camping (3rd year): The Access people are generally a great bunch (the staff and volunteers) They will help out however they can.
Friends: Camped with great friends – saw lots of great friends over the weekend – at the brunch – at random places in Centeroo – stopping by our camp.
Shows: Primus and Shpongle! Wow! The entire day of The Other Tent curated by Eugene Hutz! Unannounced acoustic set by Gogol Bordello before Devotchka. Rev. Peyton’s Big Dam Band. Cool parachute guys dropping blue blinkie things like pixie dust. Fireworks watched from the field at The Which Stage (nothing quite as magical as fireworks going off over a Bobblehead on a hot summer night)
Brooers Tent – Magic Hat Circus Boy – Yum
Food – Arepas, Samosas and Spicy Pie (basically almost any time you could possibly be craving them)
Road trip with friends – the memories – good and bad that we will laugh about for years and years.
CONS:
Heat – it was hot. Saturday we spent the day in camp – in the shade with fans (thanks to a generator brought by Steel_City_X) and just listened to The Other Tent for most of the day.
Dust – by Friday night – it was almost unbearable in our campsite. We were right on the main road and with everyone walking by, kicking up dust; the golf carts all the time and the trucks plus all the people who had come in on Thursday and were still coming in on Friday – it was bad. I tweeted Ashley Capps, Bonnaroo and BonnarooNews on Friday evening that something needed to be done – finally saw one water truck come through – it was the only one I saw all weekend. The dust caused us to pack it in Sunday evening and head for Chattanooga and a hotel. It was nice to get food and drink that didn’t feel like we were eating dirt.
Portos – wow – The addition of shade in Centeroo was nice, but there were less portos because of it. And if you are going to go to the trouble of creating a permenant shade structure, why not pour a concrete pad so the portos are level and the concrete can be sprayed down when they leak or overflow so we don’t have to walk through that crap. Also – would have been nice if there had been signs advising the guys that there were urinals at the back so they weren’t standing in line for toilets. On the subject of signs – how about this – if you are going to have 4 entrances – why not post signs? Sure most of us are smart people – but this is Bonnaroo – we’ve been drinking, we are hot and tired and we have waiting til the last min trying to avoid the portos – give us some directions.
AND – cleaning them – gee – that would have been nice. In our Pod (which I do understand was RV Access and I guess they didn’t think we would need as many because it was RV) there were only about 12 portos for the whole Pod. Problem was – they were along a fence that bordered regular GA camping – so everyone headed back to their camp there – stopped at these portos.
My other complaint about Portos?? Really people?? Would you treat your bathroom at home that way??? If everyone had a little respect and didn’t act like pigs in the bathrooms, they wouldn’t be quite so bad.
Crowds – again – wow – the crowds were unreal – there was no way to really be where we wanted to be for any of the shows. We were lucky enough to have Access bracelets and about to go on the ADA platform – which was nice because if we had not had that, I’m afraid that I would have been completely miserable this year. It was just insanely crowded. But, I do have to say this, I never really waiting in any horrible long lines – except for the portos. Beer tent and food vendors all moved quickly. The bottleneck from Which to What – really Bonnaroo – y’all need to do something about that – putting down wooden palettes for people to walk across the stream of wet stuff was a little ridiculous and very difficult for anyone with a handicap to navigate. The only way to get around this entailed going back to the gate at the Ferris Wheel for ADA – walking around to the Arch – standing in line – the whole purpose of having an Access bracelet (for us anyway) was to prevent the long periods of standing and excessive amounts of walking – for Boz’s leg and for my ankle and hips.
So – that’s my basic summary – we had a good time – still love Bonnaroo – but either we are just too old and cranky – or it has gotten too big, crowded and dusty for us. We did Hangout last year and enjoyed it – I think we will try Waka VIP next year and see if we like the VIP lifestyle)
What is that wet stuff that flows between the What and Which, it's not like it rained.
I don't wanna know - I know there are food vendors on the What side of it and Portos on the Which side of it - so I would hope whatever it was - that it came from the food vendors KWIM?

I actually learned this one selling beer, you have to keep on dumping water out of those buckets and refilling them with ice. There was a similar puddle by the Which stand as well. I do not know how you could get around the problem though. We were pretty much doing it constantly to keep the beer/water/gatorade cold.
