“We will not get engaged in who he can and cannot invite.” Furthur will be there next year muahahahahahahaha!!!!!
A good friend of mine works for the Huka, who puts on the hangout, and he told me after this year that the sky is the limit. 2012 is going to be insane, book your condo now so you don't end up being one of the losers bitching about shuttles.
I'm booking a condo this week. I would have booked one sooner, but I was waiting to hear something about this city council stuff.
I still don't get the water station complaints, though. I never had to wait more than 5-10 minutes to fill up.
People thought one of the water stations was just "shower water" or something. It was totally potable, don't know why people bitched. TONS of festi noobs at this years Hangout that didn't know how to take care of themselves.

Wilco would be a 2nd tier headliner, possibly even 3rd tier depending on how big they go next year. They are definitely on my wish list, though.
I don't see them ever actually booking Buffett for the festival. He doesn't quite mesh with the crowd/vibe/image of the festival, despite being so closely associated with the beach. I don't think the people who go to Jimmy Buffett shows are the same people who go to 3 day festivals. He would stick out as a novelty act.
Pearl Jam, however, would make a lot of sense. They would fill the Foo Fighters slot.

Nope. Why?
Short of Phish fans Buffett fans are pretty much the hardest partying crowd of any touring group. I am sure plenty would go to Hangout especially considering they are for the most part older and like condos.
When Buffett played the Which at 12:15 in the afternoon at Bonnaroo 09 there was literally the biggest crowd I have ever seen there. People were packed all the way back to the beer tent, I am pretty sure they will fit in ok with the demographic.
I want to add another big festival to my schedule next year, so I wanted to check out Hangout as a possibility... why can't I get past the countdown? Is the official site different, or am I doing something wrong??
Welcome back Bonz, but I do not find it strange that your presence being requested in the Orgy thread and then you showing up, like it was the quacking Bonzai Bat Signal.

Oh, I'm not saying Buffett fans don't party, or that they wouldn't show up to Hangout. I just don't get the impression that his audience is the primary audience that Hangout is trying to attract. It's not an issue of whether or not they would fit in, it's about whether or not Hangout wants to be perceived as an older-skewing festival that puts Jimmy Buffett in a headlining spot.

Upon giving it thought, as much as I love and miss bonnaroo I'd really like to do something again different next year. If the lineup manages to match bonnaroo's, or beat it, I think I might consider checking this out. Last year's lineup looked pretty amazing.

I liked it but there were some pretty serious issues imo. It was waaaaay to crowded it got hot and it is exceptionally inconvenient to go back and forth to where ever you are staying unless you lay down some $$$$$$$. A preponderance of UC's, no umbrellas and no spray sunscreen, were not my favorite festival policies either. I had fun but I do not think I will be back either, I think there are much better festivals out there.

They're probably relaunching the website at the end of the countdown. You're not doing anything wrong. What were you trying to look up?
Jess, they said they were doubling the area of the festival while keeping ticket sales the same. I think that should help out with the crowd, but it was pretty crowded.
i still don't understand the overcrowding argument. or really any argument. we had a great time. nothing really bad at all. we enjoyed it a lot more than roo.

The only way I would go back is if I had a walking distance condo.

I live an hour away from the festival site. I grew up spending my summers on the very same beach the festival is on, so I've of course been to both years and plan to go every year so long as the lineup stays strong, which based on the past two years I think it will.
Being kind of a local, I was hypercritical of the festivals failings. Call me crazy, but I didn't find the festival to be particularly crowded, once you got inside. By which I mean it was easy to walk around, the thoroughfares were never jam packed or anything. The problem wasn't the people, it was the stupid way the festival dealt with the tent stage and the secondary main stage.
The acts in the tent stage were to popular for that small of an area. THIS is where I feel the crowding was the problem. The tent was so crowded it was scary, and this was way in the back. I never caught any acts in this tent because I always had to bail. I appreciate them trying to provide some shade but it definitely didn't work.. Meanwhile the secondary main stage wasn't loud enough, which is pretty pathetic. This pissed me off worse then anything else at the festival, was that I COULDN'T FUCKING HEAR PRIMUS, a band I'd wanted to see since the early 90s. To hear you had to be right up near the soundboard, which I made sure I did for Ween, but I had to post up an hour before the set.
So in that way, yes, it was too crowded, but IMO the answer isn't more space or less people (though that would be nice) but better stage and audio management.
Having said that, getting in the first day was nightmarish. HUGE line to get in, and not enough workers, period.
And having said all those negative things, call me nutty, but I have a lot of confidence in the Hangout organizers. They made huge strides from year one to year two. I don't think they were prepared at all for a sellout crowd last year, but this year they will be. I think Hangout will continue to be a sellout festival, and the organizers have done a lot to gather complaints/comments from festival goers (me and several of my friends took a poll that was emailed to us, and they are active on their facebook page as well).
So I'll be buying presale tickets for sure come 11/11. whoever they book I'm sure it will be awesome.
My picks for BNAs would be Phish/RHCP/Waters. dreaming I know but it would be sweet.

Nothing in particular. Just wanted to review the site, FAQ, last years lineup, etc. See if it's something to pursue

Yeah, I agree with most everything you said, postjack. The few issues I had seemed to stem from the organizers not properly anticipating what 35,000 people would be like in that space. They just need to treat the Surf Style stage as an equal of the main stage - higher video monitors on both sides of the stage, and a second row of speakers past the sound booth. I don't think they knew how huge the crowds would get for some of those bands. Now that they know what to expect, I'm sure there will be improvements next year.
Overall, though, I had a great time this year (and the year before, although the lineup wasn't nearly as good). I'll be buying tickets on 11/11 as well.

Trust me, this festival is DEFINITELY worth pursuing! Imagine a smaller 'Roo on the beach. It's a total no-brainer! You will have a blast! Just fly down & share a room w/me. It's a done deal!
