also..
Our Thursday night pre-festival Kickoff Party, presented by Dos Equis, lets you get the weekend started a little early. Featuring 9 bands on 2 stages the event this year will be better than ever. Due to high demand – and since we arent able to offer late-night shows – we’ve expanded the event to include more bands and more than double the tickets.
Oh here's a little nugget of info....... after that Experience Hendrix show in Orange Beach last Saturday, one of my hetty friends who had lost his face mentioned that the last artist addition will have "someone huge". He was tightlipped about it, but he is definitely in the know.

I can't say that I'm too bummed about the no late nights. In fact, I'll come out with it...I'm pretty happy about it.
Selfishly, I'm stoked to be able to enjoy myself ALL day and then be able to go back to the condo (that I'm paying out the ass for) and re-up for the next day--chill out in comfort with friends maybe cook some late night grub, knowing that I'm not missing amazing shows. Call me an old man or a pussy...but I'm super excited to know I'll have the capacity to see every show I want to without being forced to stay up all night and get fully burned out.

I am indifferent about it. Probably the only act that feasibly would play a late night that could have got me to attend would be Umphreys. And Hangout's choices for late night last year were pretty generic.
The only thing that bums me out about late night is I consider it a "win" for the portion of the local community that is for some reason against bringing an extra 25 mill into the community before the tourist season starts.
I too love to chill after the festival proper ends. Get some shitty food and talk about the day with my friends, get a shower, collapse onto the bed... these are all awesome things.
I agree that all the spunions will be out and about getting in trouble though.

And wow, you're like a walking, talking infomercial to turn people away from Pearl Jam and Ohio State, aren't you? Before you started posting here I quite liked Pearl Jam and was indifferent towards OSU, now I find myself wishing that Eddie Vedder falls down a mine shaft or that Columbus is infested with locusts
This is true, it is partially what makes Lolla not as good as Roo. However, we are going down as part of a bachelor party. So, we can probably figure out something else to do after the music winds down.

Having went to both Late Nights last year, I can safely say I won't miss them that much. While I had a good time, the whole time I was thinking how awesome it would be to just rage on the beach with friends all night.

Count me among those who don't care either way about late nights. I like to get there early everyday, so winding down at the condo or on the beach is all I really want to do after the headliners.
I'll probably buy tickets for this Thursday thing. Most of the acts don't do much for me, but I figure Pres Hall and Dirty Dozen are worth the $15. Plus, I'm sure I can unload the ticket if I decide I'd rather just go to the beach.
We're def not certain about no late night shows. Two days ago Hangout made an official post which directly plugged buying tickets for a late night Tony Clifton show. They posted a video of Tony "stealing the show" at UM @ NOLA HOB from a couple of years ago. This implies there is an UM late night too imo. Who knows what the deal is. Tony Clifton will at least be at the festival.
My girl went to the Tea Leaf Green show last night and got a flyer for DJ Logic @ the Brickyard in Mobile on Good Friday (4/13?) and for two EOTO shows at the Keg after Hangout at 5/18 & 5/19.
This implies to me that Cheese could be playing both Friday and Saturday at Hangout possibly. It also brings the possibility of some kind of secret cheese action at the Keg.
I'm not sure how far away the Keg is from the Hangout. No way in hell am I driving. The Keg always had the good afterparties after WSP at the Wharf........Zoogma post WSP was pretty ridiculous, if you were there you know what I'm talking about.
I couldn't give any less fucks about not having any late night womp womp shows. I am upset because they told us Tony Clifton was coming back to play the hangout bar again and then two days later they deleted the gotdamn post.
-capacity of the boom boom tent is 4 times that of last year
-site expanded on the beach as well as north. beach blvd is now part of the festival grounds. that's a pretty crazy expansion. surprised and please the city allowed that.
They expanded the length of the fest on the beach. This is gonna be fucking awsome, Longinus and I have a condo w/ beach balcony at Island Winds East. Last year we could see the whole fest but mostly the back of the stage, but you could see the band some. I'm hoping this means we will be able to the stage better this year, that would be titties!
AJ: I can’t really comment on that at this time. We’re working through what we can do. We’ve had some city restrictions that have come about as part of renewing this year. We’re in the final stages now of planning/determining what we can do based on our new agreement. We want to provide the best experience for the patrons that are coming and we’re going to do everything we can, but the city is tremendously accommodating to us as is and we just have to address all the concerns with the locals before deciding anything on the late-nites"
Nice!! This reads as "We have to pay off the right Republicans that run this city before they allow us to have late nights"

im not jumping to any conclusions about late night. They obviously WANT to have them but its not worth bringing down the fest of pissing off the fatcats. UM late night would rock but a show at dusk would be just as nice. Thursday looks like a blast big gigantic are on a roll. Sooo ready for an alabama getaway.........ps did anyone catch the hearltess bastards on the late show?? they were impressive
It looks like Deer Tick is headed west from Texas the early part of May, and I am assuming up the California coast towards Sasquatch. That rules out Deer Tick and Middle Brother. Damn.
You are forgetting one of the key aspects of rich, conservative white people, Highcountry. They are greedy. Do you think they will just give up this money??? No way in hell.
What they are experiencing right now is called 'cognitive dissonance'. I'm from the area and it's pretty clear to me. Their nature is to be greedy and to want more money, yet they also want to call the shots and be rule-crazy. You can do that crap with Spring Break but not with a national music festival. They'll realize they can profit more letting this stupid kids kill themselves partying. The cops love it because they get more money for new toys.
After next years fest, they won't be able to get rid of it, they will be dependant on the milk from the teet of HOfest. If Gulf Shores was stupid enough to ban it, it would move to Orange Beach or something.

-comedy tent!
This interview is fantastic. The expansion of the festival itself is going to be huge. I remember there were times when the smaller stages were basically parking lots and it took 3 or 4 times longer than it should have to get from one stage to the next. I'm super pumped to hear about this, thanks for posting this interview.

We knew they were expanded, but I didn't think they would double the size of the grounds. That's huge. Hopefully they add a second row of speakers to the Surf Style stage similar to what they did for the Hangout stage last year.

this is my #1 concern. i haven't gotten any hard feedback from hangout saying they did this. I'm happy that the grounds will be wider toward the north, but personally I didn't find crowding between stages or getting from one stage to the next to be an issue. Just hop up on the concrete and walk. It got crowded, but never so bad that it significantly slowed me down. Crowding was really only an issue at the tent stage, but now that it is expanded (which was my #2 concern) I think it will be OK.
But we need a second stack on the surf style stage! I've pretty routinely posted that request on their FB.
