Anybody have suggestions on where to park a car for the weekend? I have two parking passes that came with our condo but unfortunately we'll have three cars. I wasn't sure if there were pay lots in the area for long term parking or if I should just find somewhere along East 2nd and hope for the best. Last year there were lots of folks "camping" in their cars along this stretch.
Last year my condo was a half mile away from the festival. The first day I walked from there to the festival. Then I realized it wasn't that hard to park on 1st or 2nd avenue if you leave early enough in the day to do so, and we did that sat & sun. If you're wanting to park it for the whole weekend, it might be better/safer to park it at that Bruno's about a mile north of the beach and just have whoever is using one of the parking passes to pick you up from there.
It will be my first tiime in Gulf Shores. Where are the best local seafood eateries? It looks like we will have time after Givers on Saturday and noonon Sunday for sitdown meals. So I am looking for the two best places. Also, should/can I make reservations?
And wow, you're like a walking, talking infomercial to turn people away from Pearl Jam and Ohio State, aren't you? Before you started posting here I quite liked Pearl Jam and was indifferent towards OSU, now I find myself wishing that Eddie Vedder falls down a mine shaft or that Columbus is infested with locusts

any ideas for whos gonna sit in with who? I was thinking maybe mavis staples could perform with the flips. I don't know how they usually handle all the female vocals on that album but I bet mavis would rock that shite
also I was super bummed to see that there is even worse overlap between sts9 and jack. Its cool that S9 gets more time this way but my lady is not that down with them and they are one of my fave live acts (save for phish and phil) I really couldn't see splitting up so that she can catch all of JW and I can go rage to S9- I would feel super bad about when Jack plays a good song and she truns to me all stoked and I'm not there cause I'm with the boys. Likewise I would have a tough time enjoying jack white while I knew I could be missing a Baraka or a Ramone ARG! might have to do some running around i guess

We are within a half mile of the show. I am looking for long term parking for Thursday night through Monday a.m.. I sent the local airport an email as they said they had long term parking and someone replied right away saying "oh are you flying into the airport here?". Never heard back yet.
This makes me think interlopers are not welcome. I should mention that I don't mind paying but if anyone has a free spot to suggest that's cool too.
pjbuckeye, Original Oyster House is awesome, but you'd definitely have to make a reservation if you don't want to wait an hour+. A great place to get breakfast is Tacky Jacks in Orange Beach, they have multiple locations, but the one in Orange Beach has an amazing view and is only a few minutes away. Sit outside, have a bloody mary, and get a farmer's omelet (the large is easily enough for two people).
flatbrimtracksuit, as your attorney, I advise you to skip STS9 and see Jack White with your womarn. Not only will you gain +10HP & +5MP, but your lady will probably give you sexual pleasures afterwards.
rubo, don't waste any money on parking. Nobody will mess with your vehicle at that Bruno's.
Longinus- We are in a similar situation. We have two cars and one spot. I asked the owner about it and he said our complex has a few visitor spots, but if those are full (and likely will be), we discussed maybe dropping one of the cars off at Walmart or something.
Welcome back Bonz, but I do not find it strange that your presence being requested in the Orgy thread and then you showing up, like it was the quacking Bonzai Bat Signal.

Longinus - you are correct, I think I will do just that- splitting up at fests really sucks- you have to establish meeting spots and run around when the music is playing. I don't really know what +10HP and +5MP means- could you clarify?

We are fans of Lousiana Lagniappe. You can call about reservations because I"m not sure about that.
Louisiana Lagniappe looks very hetti. If I could afford to do that, I'd have a difficult time deciding on either the Bayou Grouper or the Lagniappe Seafood Platter.
Sometimes I relate real life to an RPG, and I was trying to insinuate that you'd gain more "experience" seeing all of Jack White's set rather than staying in the edm tent for all of STS9's set.

Yea, the Bayou Grouper is awesome. That's what I got the last time we went. I will put in the caveat, that we don't get there very often. The 3 year old and the 5 year old have really put a damper on eating at nice places.
We'll probably grab a couple pounds of steamed shrimp from Joe Patti's for Thursday. And I'm planning on smoking a brisket or a couple of racks of ribs this weekend and freezing that to take with us for lunches. We are staying in Florida, so we'll be eating dinner at the festival.

in a case where there are two bands I really really want to see conflicting, I find it best to just bite the bullet and catch the whole set of one of the acts. I only like to split sets if it is two acts I am lukewarm about. the reason being you could end up missing that one awesome song/moment in the set if you split between two acts you really care about.
I split lips/Motörhead last year and regret it. I should have stayed for the whole Motörhead set, it was awesome.
Postjack- I don't mind splitting up sets. IMO, if you have good karma and know what you're doin, you'll catch all the epic moments and miss the snoozers. Walking around more also ensures you will run into more old friends and make new ones.
I agree with Postjack. I find I go home unfulfilled when I split my must-sees.
Silk, you are bring ribs into the festival? Are they not strict at all about what you bring in? I was hoping to just sneak in some granola bars, but if they don't really care, I'd love to pack more..

Thanks for the recs Longinus and Silk. I'll definitely try to get to these places. Is it not acceptable to be wearing festivalish cothing in any of these establishments?

No. I won't be bringing ribs inside the festival. My plan is to eat a nice lunch at the condo before heading to the festival. Our condo has a full kitchen. And I don't mind re-heated bbq, especially if it goes straight from my smoker to the freezer.
I didn't try to bring food in last year. The first year, they were pretty draconian. We brought some snacks (granola bars, fruit snacks, and a couple of apples) for the kids, and they wouldn't let us bring those inside (at least the snacks they found anyways .
As far as dresscode, I doubt any place is too strenuous. This is a beachtown, afterall. But you may want to call ahead, if you are worried about it.
Oh and I just got an email that sci.baselineticketing.com/ claims to have Hangout tickets, if anyone needs extras.

I would avoid Ribs and Reds right next to the festival, particularly if you are in festie clothes. The owner made some shitty comments after the festival last year, which wasn't a surprise considering the frosty service we got there.
This year’s official poster created by world-renowned, contemporary artist Rodney White.
If Rodney’s work seems familiar, chances are it is. His paintings have been exhibited in national museums, galleries and in Vincent Chase’s living room on Entourage, as well as on hit TV shows How I Met Your Mother, The Good Wife, House of Lies, Happy Endings and Modern Family, just to name a few.
What are shows that the fans of Dave Matthews Band enjoy?

I played a lot of final fantasy 7 on playstation and a lot of warcraft 2 when I was younger, but no I'm got a gamer , The only thing I could think HP meant was hewlit packard or half pound, thanks for clearing that up I get it now- can't wait to party with you guys in gulf shores!
Interesting post on the Hangout Boards this morning:
I am new to the board and had a few questions about the upcoming festival:
1. What are the specific food and beverage selections at VIP locations? Is there a menu VIP ticket holders can read over in advance to know what to expect food and beverage wise?
2. Are there expected to be any last minute additions? I saw some mention online of an extra stage this year and perhaps one with a comedy theme. Is there any truth to this matter?
The vip menu is select local and standard snacks and finger foods.
Is there really any room to put anyone else on the schedule? It seemed pretty tight.
Also, if anyone is sitll looking for tickets, they have taken quite a nosedive on StubHub. There are some for $205 right now. Yesterday, there were a few for $190.

They could put some non-kids bands on the kids stage after 5:00, which is what they did last year. If we do get a comedy lineup, I'm guessing that's where it goes.
They could also put someone in the dance tent opposite the headliners on Saturday and Sunday similar to how STS9 is playing against Jack White on Friday. That seems unlikely, though.
