Ghostland Observatory was awesome as usual. The Keys brought it, as did James Murphy and Grace Potter. Enjoyed the day. Sunny and hot but fun overall. They ran out of food in most places by the end.

-Eclectic Method->Porter Robinson->Calvin Harris->three songs of Cut Copy->!!!->20 minutes of James Murphy->TVOTR->15 min of Teddybears->last two songs of Empire of the Sun->Deadmau5 -People in Maryland are apparently terrified of bees. I have never seen so many people lose it over a yellow jacket being on their shoulder. One girl I saw seriously cried. -Cracker Barrels in Virginia are ninjas. We stopped at one exit on the way home and couldn't find the Cracker Barrel. We stopped at the next exit and it took us 10 minutes to find it. We didn't even eat there because we saw a local place named Rowe's Family Restaurant. It. Was. Awesome. -Say what you will about Empire Of The Sun. Their live show is a spectacle. -Garageland and wife are nice people. They gave us tickets and offered us a place to stay Saturday night. Yay for Inforoo! -It was good to finally meet some people from here. -Eggspectation makes some amazing food. -I totally appreciate how they pipe in what is playing on the other big stage when you are waiting in between acts. I got to see some of Cee Lo while waiting on TVOTR and got to hear some of the Black Keys while waiting on Deamau5. -On a negative note, when I was walking to TVOTR, a 18ish year old girl was being carried out in a stretcher. She was obviously completely unconscious. When the stretcher was passing through the crowd, a college aged girl laughed at the girl in the stretcher and said "Man, she got quacked up!" I wish Abra was around, so she could have punched her.

Thanks again to GRGLND for hooking us up with tickets. It was great to meet you and your wife!
Had a great breakfast at Eggspectations where I got to meet Dan, Bunny, and lowerdeck. Ran into Ol' Dirty Brooklyn shortly before I passed out for a little bit.
I thought Eclectic Method was amazing. Partly because not many people were there yet but he really had a good set. Porter Robinson was about what I expected and Calvin Harris was really good. I decided to take a nap during part of Cut Copy to stay out of the heat. I wasn't thrilled with James Murphy at all. Sounded a lot like what I'd hear in a club/bar around here. Empire of the Sun put on an amazing show and Deadmau5 was exactly how I expected it.
The festival was run well other than waiting in line forever for food/drinks. Lots of shade and I felt they dealt with the mud as well as they could. The Police were very helpful and traffic was a breeze. I had hoped for more of a festival experience but it was basically like a huge concert. A huge concert with really douchey people. They all looked the same and people, females especially, seemed entitled and just plain rude. I came close to getting into a fight at Deadmau5 after refusing to let a girl stand infront of me after she had already gotten mud all over everyone around her, shoving her way to the front. She and her boyfriend decided to push me and had she not been with 5 or so people I probably would have done more than yell at her.
I had hoped to run into more inforoo people at the festival it's self but somehow I didn't see any of the brunch people once we got in.
Back home again after a 10 hour drive and I'm looking forward to MOOG!

That's the folks that populate this area in a nutshell.
Anybody that knows me knows I'm non confrontational. VFF/VMF ALWAYS brings out the worst in me.
It's people that don't typically even go to shows that get free tickets and seems like a great place to "cruz some chicks and get a sun tan" .. as someone a lot better than me, once said. They come in at 3 or 4 pm and party till 11. You see people leave on stretchers and in the back of police cruisers.
And Dan'ROO is so so right. Thats just that area. I don't know why but I never have these problems with people anywhere else.

I had a friend that went thru 5 lines to get something to eat and told they have nothing every time.
Crowd was kinda crappy. The amount of trash on the ground everywhere was alarming. Thankfully I didn't bother with the food and drink vendors much, because the lines were atrocious.
However when I got some sweet potato fries, the time in line was enjoyable by hearing some frat boy behind me crying about how he wants his ex-girlfriend back.
1) It's worth getting there early. Easy parking near the main gate, less traffic, less lines at vendors and Kyocera booths and whatnot. If you're tired, make use of the open field or shady spots and take a nap
2) With such tight space on the lawn, I'm not surprised about all that trash. Since I ate earlier and didn't drink, I didnt have to worry about having a hard time finding a trash can, especially that's not full. I always expect trash on the ground and I'm pretty sure I saw worse nearby at Starscape this year. I thanked one of the guys cleaning up on my way out though I always feel bad for whoever has to clean it all up.
3) Mud...although entertaining in some ways to watch people slip on the muddy slope to the left of the West stage (ferris wheel side), I hope they prep for this a bit more next time if rain is in the forecast. I also feel bad for all the grass that disappeared but what ya gonna do? It'll grow back. Also, YAY for not really raining! Around 2pm it sprinkled and was cold but aside from a few drops here and there (literally), it was great weather!
4) Grace Potter ROCKS! Saw her at Roo but I don't think I got to see her whole set like I did this weekend.
5) Was the trampoline that was on the map by the west stage meant to be for the family circus area or did it get cancelled? And what about giant dominoes? The family circus was neat...sometimes. Barely could hear their music over the dance forest stage.
7) Women, use the men's bathroom. The majority of men go to use urinals and so the actual stalls are often cleaner and the line is faster. No one stopped us.
8) The aliens walkin around were amusing. And also a guy in an orange shirt...i saw a youtube video of him dancing with them and I saw him at !!! dancing with a chair. My video of the aliens:

Not sure about what stalls you've seen but I find most of the stalls pretty disgusting. Guys go in there and care less about getting it in the actual toilet if the men's room is kinda crowded
I went in a decent 1 in a smaller bathroom down behind toward the west stage i think it was. 1 stall wasnt usable but the 2 others had girls using it and the men just stuck to urinals or the 1 stall we weren't using. Generally, yes men can be messy but I think they have a tendency to stick with urinals especially if women stick with the stalls assuming they dont need to go #2, lol (and I had a guy friend agree that I coulda gone in the main bathrooms by the pavilion and easily used the stalls. I didn't see what shape those were in though. maybe they got worse later in the evening too). Women aren't always the cleanest anyway. Seems like a lot of people didn't realize the bathroom I used was there. At 1 point, I walked past it and there were long lines for the portos but none for the real bathroooms with flush toilets. Found it strange. Regardless how clean it is, I always try not to go too frequently if I can help it and put down toilet paper on the seat to be safe. Tough if you're a drinker though.
FreeFest was a gas. The big highlights for me were (surprise surprise) Cut Copy and Patti Smith. Cut Copy was the most I've danced my ass off during a daytime set since MIA @ Roo '08, without question. This was my second time seeing Patti Smith, and while I loved her show at the Met last fall, it was a subdued and fairly restrained affair. I'm happy to report that she completely let loose at Virgin. I am in complete awe of that woman; she's going to be 65 this year - old enough to be someone's grandmother - and she puts far more energy into her performances than most acts half her age.
I'll agree that the vibe there can definitely leave a lot to be desired; it almost had to come to a bout of fisticuffs on two separate occasions, and anyone who knows me well can attest to the fact that I'm a lover, not a fighter. I think a lot of people there viewed it as nothing more than a giant club without a cover charge - somewhere they could get wasted and hear some music in the background while they chatted with their brahs. Even so, if next year's lineup is as good as this year's, I'll be back again.
The streak is broken and I did not get thrown out this year.
I did however manage to pee on a poor mans foot.
To be honest, I'm actually a little bit disappointed you made it all the way through this year. Not that I didn't want you to have a good time, but I was really hoping to read a story that ended with "...and that's how I got kicked out of Virgin Fest the third (fourth?) time".
Oh yeah, by the way... you owe me a new pair of shoes, you rat bastard.

Clearly you didn't see the men's room down in back behind the Pavillion Stage then. That was pretty brutal, especially by the time the Keys came on.

Heh. I was the DD this year and we had a mishap with forgetting to take in cash. I had a blast this year though. More fun than in years past, thats for sure.
Make no mistake. I'll be in rare form come time for Halloween weekend. ;D

I managed to just go once... by the west box office. there were some portos but if I was gonna wait in a line, I might as well have waited for flush toilets. Went in the mens, 1 stall wasnt being used by us (wasnt flushed or dirty seat or something. i didnt wanna look in there) and the other 2 us girls used. I came back out and there was no line.
*shrugs* oh well. Probably gets worse as the night goes on, I'm sure, as more people use it and get drunker. I think I went on the way towards the beginning of Deadmau5's set.
I didn't end up going - I wasn't feeling so hot and couldn't imagine dealing with the crowds & mud and from what I'm reading, I'm really glad I made that decision. That is a problem with a free show for me - if I had paid for it, I probably would have sucked it up, gone and had a good time. eh - next year.
