I seem to have the opposite problem EAP has, I am always friggin mafia. One of these days imma go back through the games and see, but I think it is something like 2 townie games and 5-6 mafia. To a certain extent it's fun, but it's getting old. The game where I am finally inspector is gonna get pretty f'ed up.
Hollie, you messages now make sense. I thought you were being funny when you asked us how we knew who was going to be whacked and if the inspector received "instant death" if the name was discovered. You also didn't really follow advice on who to vote for and I couldn't figure out why you kept voting for the same folks as Sarah and myself. You comment about how the three of us were townies on a team is funnier every time I think of it.
As for the PM deal, it is a shitty situation. I do agree that there is some degree of understood secrecy in a "personal" message. Prior strategy should be a part of the game, as it has. IMO, sharing a PM like that does violate rule 1. Part B says " If you are a member of the mafia, you may discuss the game freely among your fellow mafia only. Do not discuss the game outside of this thread with any non-mafia player" First and foremost - your fellow mafia only. Second, ya, its a mafia thread, but not the one in which the original PM was sent for.
So, things Mike D has learned for his next game 1) Don't help new players 2) Don't help fellow mafia via PM's 3) If only mafia members are confirmed for a get together, cancel plans 4) Holls must double her corn intake to further enhance the mafia experience 5) Don't sign up players for mafia that really don't know how to play because they will end up on your townie team
for now I am in, if we start after the burn, the week after the, the 5th.
EAP I had a feeling you were not the same as me, just did not realize you were the inspector. MikeD, I had you and popsicle I see yout rant was real and you Mafia. I knew it! Holls, you Hung yourself. ;D
Good game all and I hope there are no hard feelings. Go townies!
Fawnmart and I have agreed that we couldn't possibly play in the same game. It would be too weird. If she takes off next game I'll play but I'll defer to her if she wants to do it again. She had a blast whether she'll admit it or not.

Scroggie, hope things are going good.
Yes i did, however it took up way too many of my available mips. Two in a row would end up getting me fired. Your up ML.
We're all a mess of paradoxes. Believing in things we know can't be true. We walk around carrying feelings too complicated and contradictory to express. But when it all becomes too big, and words aren't enough to help get it all out, there's always music.
10) AKA The kdogg Rule: There will be no sharing of role PMs inside the thread or outside for the purpose of disclosing your role to another player. This also goes for password sharing. Common sense should be used, no discussion of your roles, except between Mafia, outside the thread - EVER.
This game could really use a FAQ page. It would facilitate play and increase the enjoyment for newb players.
If you have any particular suggestions, I'd love to hear them in the postgame.
With a holiday weekend coming up it looks like this one won't get started for a week. This might give you mafia experts something to do in the mean time.
I reiterate my nomination of jhammett as Referee. I think doing the job might give him a new appreciation of how difficult it can be to be Referee. Plus, he's going to be attending PJ20 so you're guaranteed not to have the game begin before Labor Day.
I mentioned during the game that I'd love to hear suggestions for a Mafia FAQ. I'd have started on one already, had new(er) players shared specific questions they had in mind.

I really only have a few.
1) Once someone is "executed", does that mean they don't vote anymore in subsequent nights/rounds?
2) Does everyone know who the inspector is? Or is this only Ref knowledge? Knowledge is power! Just read in the intro, the inspector is only known to themself.
As I think of more I'll post them. Thanks all!

A lot of times new players don't have specific questions until they get into the game. I just reread the intro/rules on page one, although the story is good, there isn't clear expectations of each role. A good place to start with a guide/FAQ would be to give a little more information as to what one should do once assigned a particular role. Obviously everyone has a different strategy so this can be very general.
For instance (just as an example, not saying I necessarily think this should be used):
If you are mafia you are trying to get the townspeople to vote each other out instead of you or other mafia. Be as least suspicious as possible. You want them to think you are a townsperson.
Some questions I've had or noticed other have had:
*What is a "voting partner"? *Can I change my vote? When? How often? *There's nothing going on in the game, no one is voting, talking, etc. What's going on? (waiting for mafia whack/inspector guess). *What does "nulling a vote" mean? *How are the roles assigned?
^ i can answer these questions, but should i just do it here? i'm wondering what we should do about a FAQ? could it be sticked at the top of the arcade?

A "Mafia FAQ" thread could be started so that it could be collaborative. The OP would need to be devoted to adding to their original post and keeping it organized. Then a link could be put in the intro and new players could be referred when they have questions. There wouldn't be a need to sticky it if a link was always kept in the Mafia intro.
^ What I'm suggesting is perhaps to rework the existing rules into sections like Player Roles, Game Phases, Voting, Rules, and the like.
The loose framework for the inaugural post I'm thinking... 1. Introduction 2. Player Roles* a. Selection b. Mafia c. Inspector d. Townsperson e. Player Deaths 3. Game Phases a. Day b. Night 4. Voting a. initial b. closing c. runoff d. hours/weekends 5. Victory conditions 6. Rules a-?. 36hr, weekend, no PM, Bacon rule, and others 6. Players/Day One
* Perhaps with a section in there outlining the Referee's role and responsibilities?
I'm just thinking an expanded/reorganized explanation of the rules themselves might preemptively answer some of these questions, negating the need for an FAQ.
Right now the rules post looks something like: 1. Introduction 2. Here's fifteen other things 3. Players/Day One
I think some reorganization and more clarification about process on the front end might spare us the need for an FAQ on the back end.
Any thoughts or suggestions here?
Also: if Holls wants an FAQ, she better play again.

Great idea on the FAQ - looks like it will be thorough and informative. New players will really benefit from it! But no worries: I'll not play again, not even if MikeD commandeers every gadget I own.
